the U.A. traitor: what we know
in chapter 12 of BnHA, a security breach occurred at U.A. during which the famed U.A. barrier was compromised.
one chapter later, the League of Villains invaded USJ with the intent of targeting All Might, using information apparently obtained during the above break-in.
some seventy chapters later, the LoV ambushed the U.A. first year hero course training camp and kidnapped Bakugou Katsuki. this was a particularly disturbing turn of events for the U.A. faculty, not just because one of their students was targeted and taken, but because the location of the training camp was a closely guarded secret.
these three events – no more, and no less – are the three incidents which sparked the notion of there potentially being a traitor among the U.A. faculty and/or student body.
fandom often speculates about the traitor in terms of who is acting the most suspicious, or which character would be the most shocking. people theorize that it might be Deku because of his connection to AFO, or that it might be Ochako because she’s someone no one would suspect because of how close she is to Deku. Kaminari was under suspicion because people thought his trademark dunce mode might be an act, and people thought Rat Principal was sus in the previous chapter because he was too eager to send the kids out into danger.
what people don’t seem to take into account, though, is that “a potentially suspicious person” is NOT the same thing as “THE U.A. Traitor™.” there could potentially be multiple people at U.A. who are collaborating with the villains, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Deku, for instance, almost certainly is passing certain information on to AFO unintentionally through his quirk. but Deku is not THE U.A. Traitor™, because Deku is not the one who stole the class schedule in chapter 12. Deku is not the one who helped orchestrate the USJ attack, and Deku is most certainly not the one who told the villains where the training camp was so that they could come and kidnap his childhood friend.
when it comes to pinpointing The U.A. Traitor™, it doesn’t matter who fandom thinks is acting suspicious. it doesn’t matter which character would make for the most “shocking” reveal. it doesn’t matter which characters just feel “off”, and it doesn’t matter which characters fandom thinks are being set up for something important in the narrative. it doesn’t matter which characters are in the perfect position to pass on information to the League, and it doesn’t matter which characters appear to be more than meets the eye. these are all trails that are fun to go down, but following them won’t bring us any closer to identifying a character who was already spelled out for us back in the very first chapter where The U.A. Traitor™ made an appearance.
Hagakure is the only member of class 1-A who was absent on the same day that Tomura breached the U.A. barrier.
and Hagakure – and, interestingly, Aoyama – are the only two characters whose locations are mysteriously undisclosed during the USJ break-in.
this last part is actually very interesting, because Aoyama’s behavior immediately following the attack is very odd, even for him.
after Hagakure reveals where she was during the invasion – which you’ll note that no one is actually able to verify – Aoyama makes a strange face. he then asks the class if any of them knows where he was during the attack. and it’s only after he confirms that none of them saw him that he declares that his location is “a secret.”
my interpretation of this is that there is a very strong possibility that Aoyama was actually near Hagakure during the attack (they are pictured next to each other on the map, after all), and so he knows that Hagakure is lying. which is extremely odd! but because Aoyama is a good boy who loves his classmates and doesn’t want to think ill of them, he decides to sit on this information for the time being. maybe Hagakure has good reasons for not telling the others where she actually was. who is to say. and so he makes a judgment call and decides not to rat her out. but he does file this information away, and I think it’s an important moment.
but don’t let that distract you from the main takeaway here! which is that Hagakure is the only member of the class 1-A who lacks an alibi for both the U.A. barrier breach and the USJ invasion. Hagakure, whose quirk is almost tailor-made for espionage. Hagakure, whose personal life we still know almost nothing about. Hagakure, whose physical appearance is still unknown to us. Hagakure, whose quirk has never gotten an “official” reveal blurb in the manga, by which I mean one of these dealies:
Hagakure, who everyone keeps dismissing as a potential candidate because they feel it would not be shocking enough, or effective enough, because we don’t feel as strongly about her because she’s always existed as more of a background, peripheral sort of character who we’ve never learned much about. which to be frank has never made any kind of logical sense to me. “I just don’t think this character whose motivations and backstory we still to this day know absolutely jack shit about is a likely candidate to be hiding something from all of us” – yeah, I’m gonna have to beg to differ on that account, lol.
but again, at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter how shocking or suspicious she is or isn’t, though. the only thing that actually matters is who does and does not have an alibi for the three U.A. Traitor™ incidents. and that spells it out pretty damn clearly.
people who have an alibi for one or more of the three specified incidents: everyone except Hagakure
people who do NOT have an alibi for any of the said incidents: Hagakure
I rest my case.
Y'all. Aoyama knows something.
Remember, when he did this?
Aoyama knows. He's been putting warning signs.
Idk its just that, it seems very strange isn't it? Hagakure being the traitor, and like I said, she's a damn good traitor. Doesn't it make sense with the phrase?
why are people mad it's hagakure? because she's a background character, one of the least important ones?
isn't that the point?
like. listen.
she's a spy. she's supposed to stay invisible, literally and figuratively. she's supposed to be the characters others don't suspect. i mean, why would they right? she's just another classmate, another friend, with and invisibility quirk. why would she be the traitor?
she's not had any important moments either, which is the point. stay away from limelight. bring as little attention on you as possible.
she's a traitor, and a goddamn good one at that.
everybody's watching her
but she's looking at you

Stars In Their Own Orbit.
They are just starting out. They have sorted things out, they've talked about everything that was left unsaid. Tears were shed, apologies long due were finally said and finally, finally , they were together. They had just started dating.
And turns out, it isn't as easy as they thought.
Though they may have sorted things, though they know that they trust each other completely, they don't trust themselves.
It’s a fact that they love each other, a fact as true as the sun and the stars. A fact that they feel when they’re in each other’s orbits, getting pulled closer and closer by some sort of gravity. And yet, no matter how close they get pulled, they’re holding back. They always hold off closing the distance.
And oh, weren't there moments when they'd almost kissed? Just about to close the distance, when one of them just backs out. Not because they don't want it, they do, they want it so, so much, but they're terrified. They had been through war, seen each other almost die for one another, is it so wrong that they are terrified? What if they don't end well? What if something happens to any one of them, what would happen to the one left behind?
And Izuku is content with it. It'd be a lie that he doesn't crave more, crave closeness, crave the intimacy that every other couple has, but he's not sure. Not sure that things won't end up like a collapsed house of cards. And yet, yet, every time Katsuki is near him, he can't help leaning into him. Can't help the way he just gravitates to him. Can't help the way he is always in Katsuki's space. Hell, he would do anything to just stay in his space.
He does wonder whether it was a wise decision to start a relationship with him, but the moment he sees Katsuki, they're gone. And he's back to being like he was before his quirk diagnosis, back to seeing Katsuki with more adoration than he'd ever seen anybody.
He can't, for the life of him, he can't.
Can't leave this boy.
He has loved this boy before he knew what love was, before he knew that love was even a word. He loves the way he shines. Loves him, with all his rough exterior and his explosive nature, he loves the boy. Izuku knows that this is the boy he will love forever, even if the universe forces them apart. He hopes they don’t fall apart, he hopes that fate has destined them together, hopes that Katsuki will be the one he wakes up beside.
And Katsuki? He isn't faring any better either. He's getting swept away, and he doesn't know what to do. He's never paid attention to emotions before, they've never affected him much before. But now? There's so much of it that he's not sure if he will be able to contain it. He'd always thought that relationships, especially love, weren't for him. No. He'd be fine on his own, that's what he'd told himself.
People are just trained to get along, that's what he believed.
Oh, how wrong he'd been.
Because it's so much more. It's his heart doing Olympic gold level worthy somersaults when he sees that vivid green in his eyes. It's the pit of his stomach vanishing when he thinks he's in danger. It's him not being able to think beyond him when he'd jumped before him . It’s him begging him to come back. It’s all the jumbled pieces of himself falling into place when he’s with him. Him, him, him.
Katsuki had always had a goal, and he had always worked towards making his life flow towards that. But this boy had put his life on a halt. He was all there was worth in the world dreaming about, worth living for, worth fighting for.
And despite all this, there’s always the voice in the back of his head voicing the thoughts he so desperately doesn’t want to think about. The voice asking if it was a wise thing, this relationship. Katsuki’s insecure. He's scared. What if they're used as each other's breaking point? What if he gets hurt? What if he isn’t there for him ? What if something happens to him ?
But when he hears his voice every day, sees him smile, he's soothed, his worries gone. This is the boy he's spent his entire life with, the boy that's always been in his space, staying in his orbit. And he can't think of a single moment when he wouldn't have worry in his mind when he was out of sight. He can’t escape the thread that pulls them together, forcing them to stay in each other’s orbit. Not that he’d try to escape it.
They love each other, it’s a statement, a fact. Everybody knows that. There’s love in the way they look at each other, there’s love in the way they sync together, falling into a rhythm without meaning to. There’s love, soft, adoring love. Love that doesn’t need any declaration, love that doesn’t need to show others. Love that’s loud yet quiet. Loud enough for everyone to know without saying a word, and yet quiet and shared between only them. There’s adoration, in the way they're beside each other, in the way they talk, the way they move.
For all that it's worth, they're the lone stars in their own sky. They've always been the two, one would always have the other with him, even when things had soured between them, even if it wasn't in a good sense. Their own yin and yang.
And they know it's scary, being heroes, but at the end of the day, it's worth it. It’s worth it if they have each other. They both know that one day they'll get each other alone, and it'll be only them, and there will be nothing wrong with the world. But for now, they're happy. They're here, together, breathing, alive, here, with each other's name being the thing their minds' filled with.
And it’s this unspoken thing that they know; no matter where one goes, even if it's the depths of hell, the other will follow.
