Nynke Koster | Architectural furniture
When does an object become furniture, and when can furniture be seen as a work of art? Artist Nynke Koster asks this exact question through her work.
Koster holds a special interest in in spaces and architectonic elements. In her work, she experiments with layers of rubber, applying them directly on different ornaments from buildings. Once the rubber dries, she then peels it from the surface and finishes it off with soft, pastel colored material. By doing so, she is turning it into a comfortable piece of furniture.
Each building she makes these pieces from is carefully chosen. They have a rich history that hold a special meaning either to the artist herself or to others around her. Through the work, memories and feelings that go with a certain place become tangible, allowing people to experience them in a different way.
