2012 Spokes Event #12. I was half a second off of second place due to a few mistakes and coasting the finish section. Great competition with Jason Minehart as always. =)
2012 Miatas @ Hallett! November 14-15. Here's some video from one of the last few sessions on Saturday chassing down Squadron B from TrackJunkies. :)
Yesterday's 2012 Spokes Event #10. 1st in STR out of 6. 2nd in PAX out of 89.
Yesterday's SASCA/Spokes Joint-Event Autocross #8 for the 2012 Season. I placed 1st in STR and got my first ever 1st Place PAX. I'm not sure how I pulled that one off but the run felt great! I have been running the default Mugen tune that FlashPro provides and the night prior to the event I lowered VTEC engagement from 5400 to 4700 and verified that the new RPM redline is 8500. I had no issues with the typical hard-cut that the stock tune has on the S2000. For those that aren't familiar if you hit the rev-limiter the first time it bounces back and recovers fine but on the same run if you hit the rev-limiter again it does what we call a "hard-cut" and bogs the motor down which can be seen at the end of this run just before the finish line: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ixPhY9v2r0 It affected Ricky and I that day and it actually costed him 1 position in B Stock. I had no issues with hard-cut yesterday even banging on the rev-limiter for several seconds on my last run when I decided to try and not shift to 3rd b/c I had missed it on my previous run. :3
So coming back another day to tackle the rest of the project I was ready to install the MegaSquirt EMS. I got the OEM brace bolted on and all of the cables plugged in. I had to reroute the LC-1 wideband wiring because for some odd reason I decided to run it from the transmission tunnel, up into AND across the engine bay against the firewall, and then finally through the firewall. I got smart and took the wiring that started in the transmission tunnel and routed it up through the shifter turret and underneath the center console, bam! I also remove the radio so I could move the 3 gauges to the top section and move the radio down to the middle section in order for me to see the gauges more readily and easily on the track.
I came back to the car after a movie and she cranked right up. I'll save that for the next post with video!
Hydra, begone! I spent this evening removing the Hydra EMS from the Miata and preparing the MegaSquirt EMS. I had to get a 90 degree DB9 connector so the cable could clear the firewall but had a worry that it wouldn't clear the lip on the side of the MS EMS box. Thankfully it cleared fine. I removed the Hydra box from behind the glove box but I spent quite a bit of time removing the extended harness that stretches towards the driver's side where the OEM harness resides. It's a bit of a squeeze behind the center console. =P
2012 SASCA / Spokes Event #6. Scorching hot day around 102*F and a decently long course but it took forever to get through the day because we could only send cars out every 30-35 seconds rather than 20-25 seconds due to the position of the cross-overs. It's okay though because we normally have low to mid-30 second courses at Retama Park and the one that Vivek made for this event ranged from mid-40 to 50 seconds. I had a blast but I know I could have done better as I slid twice on my last run which ended up cleaning up my time. I had a 46.4 run which is in this video that I hit a gone one which sucks but ah well. I had to go to third gear on the back stretch which was fun but probably could have avoided the extra time to shift if I had the FlashPro unit for my car. Soon... soon. ;)
2012 Spokes Event #5. Diane is finally back from Afghanistan after a year. Not only has it been over a year since her last autocross, it's in a car she hasn't driven to the limits in. She previously drove a 10AE Miata in CS and a Mazda RX-8 in CS and now she's playing with the heavy competition of STR. She did very well for her first time back and I know she'll definitely be competitive with us in STR. I ran pretty well for this event but messed up my last run when I didn't have a passenger as I just overdrove two spots knocking down cones. I ended up in 2nd place half a second behind Jason Minheart; it's always a great battle with him in his MX5.
Autocross : 2012 SASCA Event #5. Awesome day today. I designed the course with slight tweaks on the beginning section from Andy Hollis. 116 entrants total and I ended up 1st in STR, 8th in raw time, and 5th in PAX. The car felt great and extremely planted through the slaloms but also high a slight push digging out of the slower sweepers.
New CW H2R personal best lap! My previous best was a 1:32.208 and I broke it not once but twice today! In the video the first lap was just above my record, the second breaks it but it's still in the 32s and then my last lap I finally break into the 31s setting a 1:31.79. Later in the video I'm chasing a friend in his NC Miata with old Hoosiers just starting to cord. =P
SASCA & Spokes Co-Event #4. STR was limited in participants today since Jon and Rob weren't there in their S2000 but I ended up taking the win over Jason by almost 3 tenths. The latest rear swaybar change-out made a significant difference in keeping the rear end planted on corner exit. There was a slight push in one or two spots but not bad at all. I am very happy with this change.
I changed out the rear stock s2k swaybar this evening with the '07 Miata front swaybar that I got from Jason. We'll see how this works for tomorrows local SASCA/Spokes event. I'm hoping it keeps the tail end planted a bit more.
2012 Mineral Wells Pro Solo. I had a blast at this event despite the car feeling tail-happy. This is my second Pro Solo ever and I love these events along with the National Tours. The drag-tree gives it just that extra umph of fun. ;)
Fun this past Saturday at H2R with Eric, Barry, Harrison, David, Deriann and a few other TrackJunkies. Andy was there as well but he was too fast to get on video. ;D
Spokes Event #3! I entered as a Double-driver meaning I ran in two separate heats to get more seat time. Ricky Crow volunteered to help dial in the Moton Club Sport shocks so I wouldn't be so damn tail-happy. I had been quite pissed since the last event (Texas National Tour) and especially after the Outlaw Autox they day before because I thought I was screwing the line up or entering a corner incorrectly because I was always having to catch the rear end of the car. We removed 2 clicks in compression and bumped the rear rebound up one click and the car became soooo much more controllable that I was barely catching the rear end at all! It was a glorious day and was relieved to find out that my driving is actually decent and it was mostly the car setup that was causing the previous issues. I can't wait for the next event to verify all the new settings.
Harris Hill Road's first time doing an autocross. We've set up an autox course there before but it was for a Spokes event. This event ended up being a couple cones on the straightaways and the rest of it being a track event. It was fun, I pushed too hard on my second morning run and went on an off-track excursion. It was all cosmetic damage to the clear bra and the front lip was cracked but she is fine mechanically. Afterwards I ran the open track for about an hour with Andy Hollis. Good times.
