Headcanon: Pierrot NSFW Alphabet

A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)

Loves it. Adores it. And he adores you, which is why he wants to shower you in kisses and affection. It takes him some time to get used to things like wiping you down and bringing you water, but he has the emotional part down. It comes naturally to him. He’ll cuddle you and smother you in his love.

B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)

His favorite body part on himself is his eyes. They’re expressive, and because he isn’t allowed to speak unless he’s alone with you, he relies on them to communicate with you. {The Freak Circus}

The Colors Mean More Than You Think! (Theory)

I have called this since the beginning of me discovering The Freak Circus. The second I saw Harlequin and saw his behavior, my first thought was color theory. Specifically with how certain colors mean certain emotions. And I think Ticket Taker became a bit more of a confirmation of this. So here I’m gonna say my theory’s on guys based on their color. And how I think their color shows how they cope with Columbina. (Sorry if I butchered the spelling of her name)

Pierrot:

Now I’m pretty sure we all know the meaning of red. Love, danger, romance, and all that good stuff. But the gist of red is love, harm, and anger. Sound familiar? There isn’t much to really says for this since we would have to learn more about the past and Pierrot himself to really understand him. But the red does make sense for his love for MC, the harm he causes to others/to MC for the MC, and about his hatred to Harlequin. Though as we’ve seen, Pierrot is probably in love with us as a replacement. (Which in my opinion I don’t think so.) But we just have to leave that up to the next updates of the game.

Harlequin:

Now this felt so obvious to me since the beginning. And that green is almost ALWAYS used to represent envy/jealousy. Which on the not of green, it’s seen as meaning good but also disgusting and gross. Which would make sense as well if we look at Harlequin’s past behavior and current behavior. From what I can guess about his past behavior, I believe he was a good and romantic guy who just wanted to be loved by Columbina. And maybe could have been an act knowing him, but he did all her could to appeal the her. But as we know, he ended up killing her sick of the her not loving him and felt envy for Pierrot. The disgusting part isn’t about his act of murder. But his look in general. Now we have no idea what he looks like under everything, but from Day 2 we did get a hint with the whole tentacle things. Which to most people would be considered gross and disgusting. Not the most attractive thing to most people, which probably led him to be insecure about himself. That’s a whole other theory though. My theory on how he copes, not with her death. But by his possible insecurity about his appearance and how he couldn’t get Columbina to fall in love with no matter how hard he tried. With being charming and romantic to her but she already was in love with someone else. So my theory is from based on what me know, that he seems to like to take people away form Pierrot. Probably people he thinks Pierrot would like because of his envy, seeing him as someone to always compete with. Likely put of revenge. I strongly believe his green color I’d pointing to his envy. And in my option I would consider green to be a meaning of insecurity.

Ticket Taker:

Another common color I’m pretty sure we all know the meaning of. Sadness, intelligence, cold, loyalty, calm, and all that jazz. Which I think most of it fits with TT. The sadness, loyalty, and intelligence. I will barrow the theory that @hexserath made on TT for this because I think it’s a very good theory from what I saw on their post on Twitter. The sadness makes sense and he seems to kiss Columbina’s forehead and crying the most in the scene of it showing them eat her. The intelligence is pretty self explanatory if you’ve learned enough about him and how he takes care of the finances and learning the language and culture of the places they go to. The loyalty is also self explanatory when you remember that TT is very loyal to Jester. Now back to the sadness thing on how he copes. I do think that hexserath does explains it better than I can. So if you wanna see that I can link it. But I’ll try to explain as much as I can. He has a favorite mirror that shows the story of the time Columbina was killed. From what I understand and think, I think he was copes by sharing what happened. Even if people won’t understand it or think it’s part of the act, he shares what happened as a way to release the trauma. If that makes sense. Like talking to a friend or a therapist about what happened that lead to your trauma. Hope this makes sense.

Jester:

So this is probably gonna be a bit more complicated… Since there is nothing much we really know about him at all. So the only thing we can go off of here is prediction and guessing and possible theory. So let’s get to the meanings we have for purple. And if they fit in the end it would be pretty cool! So the meanings of purple (from what I think fit Jester) mysterious, restrictive, creativity, emotional. There is more, but I don’t think it fits with the perspective we have of Jester right now. The rest of the definitions of purple were seen to be somewhat childish but I don’t think that’s what he is at all so far. So I’ll go off on my ideas of the words I provided. Mysterious, it’s pretty self explanatory. But I think I mostly picked this word because our perspective, but I do think it can change. Restrictive I think would be more fitting with how protective he is of the others. He makes the rules very clear to all of them to keep them all safe. That thing you’d want if for people to suddenly realize what you are and what you’re doing. I do think Jester would be pretty restrictive to everyone for that very reason. Creativity, I think would be with the way he acts. An example of it would be with his whole performance we saw. You can’t tell me he didn’t choreograph the whole performance. I also think the drama he put in himself when he was going around the stage telling the story adds to the creativity. Now emotional, I know some of you would disagree with me on but hear me out! As I did with Harlequin, I will be referring emotional to his past self. Now we can’t say for sure if he was very emotional or not in his past. But the only thing I can give that helps with small theory of him being emotional is from all the lines he says during the time of Columbinas death. He was very much against her being killed and cried about it to like the others. Just remember this is all a guess.

Doctor:

Soooo this is just as hard as Jester. So for this since it’s kinda hard to find definitions for his color which is meant to be teal or cyan and red. Which I already explained what red means but I think that Doctor is more on all the aggressive definitions of red. So for the teal and cyan definitions I’m just gonna pull what I can find. Private, heals, and clinical is as much as I can find that I think fits with Doctor. All of those words are self explanatory. I do with we can learn more about Doctor and probably more research into color theory to understand meanings in colors more.

Final thoughts:

Hope all of what I said makes sense. I’m not the best at explaining things and I hope it was clear. If you all have a different opinion or thoughts about it I would be open to listen! And not gonna lie Jester and Doctors ones were on the fly because there isn’t much about them to say as a person. But I hope with was a fun theory for you all! :]

Columbina & MC: Angels and Humans

Although we don’t know too much about Columbina, there’s been a couple of reoccurring themes in the stories told by Harlequin and Jester. Perhaps you could even call them two sides of the same coin: her kindness and her weakness.

Harlequin’s story refers to Columbina as an “angel.” In the story, she is called salvation, where in reality, she is called sacrifice.

“Our little miracle/Our little sacrifice.”

Columbina is portrayed within this duality: is she kind enough to sacrifice herself or is she weak enough to be forced to be their salvation?

In Harlequin’s story, by consuming her, the monsters “become human.” I think Columbina’s weakness, compared to the other monsters, is related to how she helped them “transform” that night. Columbina is not the weakest merely by coincidence, but perhaps because she is actually the most human-like species of monster of all of them.

Harlequin says: “She is the weakest of us.”

According to this post, there is one species of monster that is closer to human biology than the others. It seems very likely to me that this is the species Columbina was, as it explains why she is described as being so weak compared to the others.

For example, in Jester’s show, he emphasizes in almost every line how Columbina is two things: kind and weak.

He calls her: “A sweet little flower in a garden of black thorns.” Again, this sets her apart from the others, as delicate where they are dangerous.

Then, Jester returns to the imagery used by Harlequin, referencing Columbina as an angel:“Shaped like a gift from the heavens! Columbina.”

I find the next line particularly notable: Columbina is described as gentle, having no claws BUT having ‘almost no fangs,’ clearly indicating she is still a monster despite her otherwise human-like qualities. “Delicate, with no claws, almost no fangs./Just a gentle presence among the shadows, smiling warmly at the monsters.”

Disturbingly, this also aligns with the implications that Columbina was going to be taken in order to be exploited in other ways. If she is the most human-like, it would explain why the humans would be most interested in her compared to the other monsters (as well as the fact that she is the weakest and cannot defend herself).

Interestingly, I think Columbina’s traits of being weak but kind, as well as being generally more human-like than the other monsters, ultimately exist to parallel her to humanity, or more accurately, to one human: the MC.

The creator has said that the reason Pierrot fell in love with the MC is specifically because they were a human, and he would not have the same reaction to MC’s actions were they a monster.

Pierrot finds MC’s kindness notable because of the fact that humans have been nothing but cruel to him. He would expect another monster to not treat him poorly for the fact of being “strange” or such, but to have a human defy the odds of their species makes them stand out as a uniquely kind individual to Pierrot.

This makes me wonder if Columbina’s kindness stood out to him for some kind of similar reason. Although the accuracy of Jester’s story can certainly be questioned, it is worth noting the amount of times he sets Columbina apart from everyone else in the group because of her “softness/kindness.”

Certainly part of this is for narrative effect, but considering the trait that has consistently made Pierrot fall in love with someone is kindness, it would seem that Columbina was noticeably different to the rest of the circus members.

Thus, just as Pierrot may have fallen in love with Columbina because of her notable kindness amongst the group and circumstance he lived in:

“And it was for that tender warmth that He, the silent monster, lost himself./Every day he watched her, her light steps, her kind words./And the more kindness she gave, the closer he came.”

He may have also fallen in love with the MC for the same reason: showing exceptional kindness amongst the group for which they belong.

In the AMA, when asked what love means to him, Pierrot replies that it is a “warmth that spreads through my chest…” This clearly mirrors the language used by Jester to describe Pierrot falling in love with Columbina.

I want to note that I am NOT saying Pierrot thinks of MC as literally Columbina, but that he fell in love with them for very similar reasons. I think MC reminds him not literally of Columbina, but of the qualities he admired in her and the similar way she made him feel.

MC and Columbina are both people who decide to be kind in a decidedly cruel world, and that’s certainly something genuinely admirable, especially considering that neither of them are particularly strong, at least compared to monsters. It would take a lot of courage to do what MC did, to put oneself in danger for the sake of a stranger, when very likely they are stronger than you and could hurt you.

MC’s kindness is notable partially because they are physically weak (again in relation to Pierrot), and Columbina’s kindness may be notable for a similar reason. We don’t have any stories about Columbina’s specific actions, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she had put herself in a difficult situation and shown Pierrot her bravery and kindness at some time.

In another AMA, Pierrot mentions that he’s not very fond of people who are unkind. Thus, I think Pierrot gravitates toward kind people in general, romantic or otherwise (he just hasn’t encountered very many of them, it seems). Even if the other circus members care for him and each other, I wouldn’t describe any of them as notably kind, especially not to strangers whom they have no reason to be kind to.

Pierrot’s life has been very difficult, and I think he clings to bravery, kindness, and people who give him hope about the state of the world. The idea that not everything is pain and suffering, but that sometimes there is light in the form of love.

Furthermore, Pierrot has similar feelings about hiding his own darkness or danger from Columbina as he does from MC:

“And tried to hide his claws so she would not wound himself upon her skin.”

I think the fact that Jester previously says that Columbina has no claws, but then mentions Pierrot wanting to hide his own in order not to hurt her is both literal and symbolic.

Literal, for obvious reasons of hurting her. Pierrot is the strongest of the monsters, and is very capable of killing (although presumably he only does this to humans), whereas Columbina is the weakest. He goes on to consume her with the others, and even references this to the MC:

“My sweet angel/Don’t make me devour you too.”

However, I think this is also symbolic. Columbina and MC are both kind individuals who inspire hope in Pierrot, but the flip side of the kindness is their weakness. Pierrot, although he does not often instigate harm, often participates in it by being part of the circus. He has fears of hurting someone who is so weak in comparison, obviously heightened in relation to the MC since Pierrot lives with the guilt of having actually “hurt” Columbina.

It’s worth noting that most of what we know about Columbina is shown through the lens of Harlequin and Jester’s stories, who are clearly unreliable narrators. It’s perfectly possible that they exaggerated certain of Columbina’s traits in order to fit better with their stories (their personal emotional shields, perhaps). Maybe Columbina isn’t as weak and helpless as Jester says, or perhaps even as kind as he suggests.

I think another interesting possibility is the idea that Pierrot, himself, has a warped view of her. Although Pierrot was not “obsessed” with Columbina and seemed to be significantly less delusional about her than he is with MC, it does make me wonder whether Columbina was as perfect as she is presented in these stories, or whether Pierrot simply had rose-coloured glasses which now align with the same kinda of stories told by the others.

They all killed and ate her, after all. It would be interesting if this martyred her to them, erasing her flaws and leaving only kindness and weakness in their memories.

All that to say, I’m very interested to get more reveals about Columbina’s personality, and whether or not she is similar to the MC in reality rather than in mere story.

I adore characters who haunt the narrative, especially those whom are revealed to be extremely different in reality than in the memories of those they’ve left behind. I think it would be very interesting if Columbina was revealed to be a less passive, whether in a heroic way (as I’ve suggested in her parallels with MC), or even in a morally ambiguous way (being less kind and more nuanced, having her own convictions and flaws, etc.).

I HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT MASKS AND MAKEUP IN THE CIRCUS (and as for how these masks work with all these face expressions)

(I think someone has already said something similar, but I don't really read many theories, so I apologize in advance tehee~)

ANYWAY!

As you may have noticed, some of the circus members have black "spots" on certain parts of their faces.

For example, Pierrot has a black spot on the back of his head (yes i know it's a wound where his hair was pulled out, but anyway...)

Harlequin also has similar black marks:

And in the day two, Harlequin makes it clear that on their faces are not makeup, is it masks:

This suggests that circus members use white makeup to cover their necks and the areas closest to them (and Harlequin is just a lazy asshole who doesn't want to cover his fat double chin)

This idea was also inspired by Neko's answer to someone's question.

It mentioned that they uses a lot of makeup in the circus (but I couldn't find this answer from Neko no matter how hard I tried).

It could also mean that their skin is actually black under their makeup on the neck (or that it's not skin at all...)

I also have another theory about how the masks and emotions on it work's!

(It's probably not worth thinking too deeply about this, as it can be attributed to the author's style and game conventions. It would be boring to watch characters with the same facial expressions, but it's late, so you'll have to read my ramblings he-he)

Have you even watched the movie "The Mask" starring Jim Carrey?

I think the "mechanism" of circus artists masks may be similar (not in terms of changing their personalities when they put them on).

Initially, when you hold the mask in your hands, it feels solid and more like a piece of wood, but once you put it on, it "melts" and becomes a part of your face, allowing you to mimic and express the emotions of the person wearing the mask.

I mean...

since there are monsters with magic??? in this novel, why wouldn't there be a "magical artifact" in the form of a mask that captures your facial expressions?

Mirror Scene Breakdown/Theory

Thank you to @moymoss for helping throw ideas around and dealing with my paragraphs of words. I've touched on the mirror scenes in several theories, but now, it gets its own!

Three different scenes are happening. The cages, the outside(black screen), and the aftermath (black screen), while in cages.

The Outside

The first scene begins specifically with Columbina being targeted by the humans. There are two humans having a conversation about Columbina with her right there.

"She's pretty, even though she's one of them." "You're right." "And if..."

Pierrot then steps in to protect her, and those behind him appear as Harlequin, Jester, Ticklet Taker, and the Doctor. The order is important.

Pierrot is labeled a problem. The two humans discuss what to do about it.

Their solution?

(A bold speech... a powerful figure... That Man, perhaps? Maybe it was the man and his second in command.)

Pierrot is heavily injured due to the order given and then put into the cage. We see it in the scene of him alone in the cage with his blood pooling outside the cage. The cages are the second scene.

Returning back outside (Black Screen)

This leaves Columbina, Harlequin, Jester, Ticket Taker, and Doctor left outside(black screen).

Jester is speaking to Harlequin about Pierrot in the next part.

Maybe he'll be the first to fall. And then one by one we'll wither away in this pit, *** (green text for Harlequin's former name) I will, feed him.

The comma in 'I will, feed him' is important since it represents a minor pause. This could be meant for Jester's decision of feeding Pierrot and/or gathering enough strength from being so weak from starvation.

Another point, Jester's conversation with Harlequin could be a sign of nudging, but also a reality check for Harlequin. (The game is over.)

... Wait.

The reality of the situation was beginning to sink in, and whatever Jester was going to do - he got caught. Harlequin's warning was too late.

Switch to the Second scene - Cages.

Jester was caught and placed in a cage, chained up so he couldn't do anything. We hear the sound of the chains moving about. He was also a problem. It had not been that long since Pierrot's blood pool was still there.

One more problem.

Scene Switch: Back Outside -

Now, Columbina, Harlequin, Ticket Taker, and Doctor are outside.

Columbina begins to speak to someone (perhaps Harlequin?)

I'm scared. If they try to touch me again... Will you save me? Save...?

If she were speaking to Halrequin, why the pause? Simple, she understands his intentions. The chance of him 'saving' her... was slim, perhaps even none; so she knows this is the likely outcome, but has to try. Harlequin is already in overdrive; his anxiety is hitting record highs. Why? Pierrot is injured. Pierrot might die. Pierrot is more important to him than Columbina. He will always choose Pierrot. Always. But could he save someone? He was not the type to save someone, right? ... Right?

(After all, Harlequin was made for Pierrot. Neko created Harlequin for Pierrot to have a rival.)

The next portion of the outside scene involves the two humans having a conversation about their next plans. (It might be after they just put Jester away or a little later, but their conversation is heard by the group.)

Tomorrow, we'll relocate her. The others, we'll let them starve. They're too dangerous to keep. You're right, we won't risk it. She'll be useful for something.

They plan to let the group starve and relocate Columbina. She will be useful. The situation has now worsened, and so has Harlequin's anxiety. (Pierrot is going to starve. He is going to starve. They both are going to die.)

(Also, the fact relocate is said here in italics is important since it mirrors one of the fates those in the pink tent can receive.)

Scene Switch - Cages - Moonless Night

(Moonless Night, Starless Night: The last night. A dark night. No one but they is a witness to the end...) (@moymoss for the line because I took it.)

The whole crew is now in cages, minus Columbina, who is chained down for easier access to be relocated tomorrow. It had been a while since the pool of Pierrot's blood was gone. These next parts all occur without a black screen, so they are happening in the same area - the cages.

A new conversation happens now; for the first time, Doctor and Ticket Taker speak (more to each other than anyone else, too),

Maybe this will be our last one. I'm so hungry. Me too... how long has it been... since we last ate?

They are both speaking of eating. They are hungry. They are starving. They are being starved, again. (Were they ever fed? Did that man even keep up his end of the deal?)

Doctor can complete his sentences without pause, whereas Ticket Taker has to pause for a long time before finishing his sentences. We can assume Ticket Taker is very weak in this scene, especially compared to Doctor. It is these two who would have the least knowledge of what is going on between Jester, Pierrot, Harlequin, and Columbina if they weren't in earshot of the prior conversations.

Jester is the next to speak.

I can't move. *** is alive...? (same as before with Harlequin's former name) .....

The ellipses of Jester's dialogue show either a low hope or a genuine surprise that Pierrot was still alive. Jester could not check as he could not move due to the chains keeping him down from his earlier stunts. He and Pierrot were problems. Pierrot did not reply.

The whole time, Harlequin was quiet. The conversation between Ticket Taker and Doctor was not helping with his deteriorating mental state. He was spiraling and deciding. Jester's comment and Pierrot's lack of reply were the final nails in the coffin. He broke out. Harlequin broke out with the help of his tendrils/vines coming out of his back. You can see them on the sides of his silhouette. He is the only one who had the strength to break out (Jester was chained, Pierrot was suffering from the injuries, Doctor and Ticket Taker were both too weak from starvation).

I'm scared. You're the weakest one. Thank you.

A simple conversation. Columbina is scared. Harlequin is free. She thanked him. Thanked him for what? Did she think he was going to save her? (Poor Fool.) Harlequin finally spoke, calling Columbina weak, which is true. She is called a monster with no claws and barely any fangs. She was not seen as a threat even by humans. (which is probably connected to his trauma, especially if he was abandoned, like I think he was. If he was the weakest of his family, they left him because of it. He had to be stronger to survive, and she was too weak to survive, and he needed someone else to survive more.)

Next event is - The Bite (of '87)

This scene is from a different POV. It is circular as if seen through an eye. Columbina is standing up, so she was released. Harlequin must have taken off the chains. (Did she hug Harlequin in thanks? She is facing him still since we can't see her face.)

Harlequin already knew what he was going to do when he broke out. He was already breaking. His mind was shattered. He bit her to save Pierrot (maybe even a way to save her, but he wasn't sorry for it, so perhaps on some level even blamed her for the current events). Harlequin knew this would hurt Pierrot, but he did not care. Pierrot needed to survive. Harlequin needed Pierrot to survive. His reasoning was that she was the weakest, so she could go. (If Jester and Harlequin are somewhat similar monsters and personalities, then it makes sense they might have a similar mindset of the survival of the fittest.)

Then it fades to a black screen.

It is a new time, but still in the cages. Harlequin did his damage, and the others are now reacting to his actions (except... Doctor's).

Why... did you do that? There's no turning back now. No... no... no...

Ticket Taker's dialogue was shaking, signalling he was truly surprised and possibly downright disturbed by the actions.

Jester is not surprised since his dialogue was solid. He understands there is no turning back from the irreversible action.

Pierrot is losing his damn mind because of the betrayal by Harlequin. He never expected Harlequin to do that. With each 'no', the more the dialogue shook in response to his distress.

Why don't we see Doctor's reaction? Did he say anything? He is more than likely already devouring her.

Back from the first bite image, it shows no bars in that POV. Harlequin let everyone out (mostly) since the scene is different. If Doctor has a twist with blood or something similar, then all the blood from Columbina made him lose himself, and he began devouring her after Harlequin dropped her.

The next image we see is from another POV, but this time with bars.

Harlequin has dropped Columbina. He already bit her. The reality of the situation and his actions hit him all at once. He is staring upwards, staring at nothing. His pupil is visible in this image. He is not looking at anyone because he is beginning to dissociate, but understood one thing.

EAT!

He needed to eat. Pierrot needed to eat.

This POV is from Pierrot. He is still behind bars as Harlequin did not let him out. None of them did because Harlequin knew(they all knew) he wouldn't react well. Pierrot was still in shock from his next line and what he was seeing.

Why... are you smiling?

Then more dialogue from (an assuming) dying Columbina.

No.

Directly after that, Harlequin starts to laugh. The weight of it all has come down. He has completely lost it. He starts hysterically laughing because... what else can he do? Apologise? No.

Sorry... ***

Jester is apologizing to Harlequin. Why? Because Harlequin was forced to make a decision, one that Jester nudged him to do.

He wasn't...

because he's not.

There is a break within the dialogue that can go two ways or both ways. It may imply that Jester was not sorry for nudging Harlequin, or that Harlequin was not actually smiling. From the laughter, it reiterates that he had lost his mind after making the decision he believed was necessary. This interpretation suggests that Harlequin’s "smile" was not glee, but a broken look during his mental break.

In Harlequin's version of the moonless night, he puts the blame on Jester and Ticket Taker. It would make sense that he blames Jester since Jester nudged him.

But then, why Ticket Taker? Was it something he did, or what he didn't do? His reaction toward Harlequin's actions is questionable. Ticket Taker is the oldest, so he might be a parental figure to the younger ones (minus Doctor), so he failed to protect them. Maybe it was from his loyalty toward Jester (which I don't think has happened just yet). But we don't know for sure, but I do think it was from something he didn't do or really couldn't do.

Harlequin thought of it as a game until it wasn't one anymore, and he had to make a choice. He did not expect the weight of the consequences.

While this is Ticket Taker's rendition of the events using Columbina's image, Harlequin is the main focus. Whether under influence or not, it was still their choice and their consequences.

Mirror Positioning in Ticket Taker’s Tent

This is an analysis inspired by a discussion between @coleopteruu and I :}

Moot pointed out the mirror positioning and I wanted to share my personal interpretations on why they’re set up the way that they are.

I believe the positioning reveals the member’s connections with each other.

Here’s a key of sorts:

Mirrors across from each other: “watching” or possibly opposition.

Mirrors diagonal from each other: complicated relationships.

Mirrors most furthest apart: strained relationships.

The hallway separating the two lines of mirrors is a boundary. A VERY prominent one considering the ground’s shadow. The hallway runs all the way to Columbina’s mirror. This may insinuate that the events of her death created this shift in their relationships.

Character Relationship Theory:

Pierrot across from Harlequin ; duality, adversity, they loathe each other so they have the largest gap.

Jester between Pierrot and Ticket Taker ; they are Jester’s two most loyal troupe members. They are both on each side as if to guard Jester’s mirror. Jester views Pierrot with extra care. Ticket Taker values Jester incredibly.

Pierrot diagonal to Doctor’s mirror ; complicated relationship. Doctor fears Pierrot.

Ticket Taker furthest from Pierrot and Harlequin ; I like to think that this is from grudges he holds against them since the incident. Or at least sees them as some irritation.

Pierrot and Harlequin are both furthest from Columbina. The others are in between that positioning, as if to keep them from her.

Doctor and Harlequin are separated by themselves and are next to the broken mirror (tragedy). This may mean that they outwardly display their trauma in some way.

Harlequin ; pursues MC to spite Pierrot (“I will take you from him.”) Harlequin is openly mischievous and lustful. He doesn’t hide himself and tells us that himself.

Doctor ; also pursues MC. Doctor has bloodlust and is unstable. He likely became this way as a result of the cannibalism. When he sees blood, his primal side takes over. There’s no repression.

Harlequin and Doctor are next to each other and likely have a good friendship.

Jester across from Doctor ; Doctor seems to enjoy Jester’s company (as he often visits his tent). I believe that Jester watches Doctor. Likely to keep him in line and maybe separate him from TT.

Harlequin diagonal to Jester ; complicated relationship. Jester knows Harlequin’s nature and Harlequin is likely aware of Jester’s nature (ex. When he calls Jester a hypocrite). Jester likely wishes to keep a close eye on Harlequin. He doesn’t oppose him, but doesn’t seem like he wants being too close either.

Ticket Taker is diagonal to Doctor. I have full confidence these two have history. I believe they were close at one point and now they aren’t (TT doesn’t really visit Doctor’s tent and referred to him as “the Doctor” in a recent AMA). I think that calling him this is a form of detachment on TT’s part. They also used to be portrayed together a lot. Now they aren’t.

These two aren’t completely severed and are diagonal (TT calls on Doctor for help with unruly guests).

This is where I, per usual, talk about Ticket Taker’s significance

I believe that he is a SIGNIFICANT character in this story.

Ticket Taker is the one right across from the broken mirror. He is face-to-face with the tragedy.

TT’s mirror is comparatively shorter and wider compared to the other’s mirrors. I believe this is to symbolize the weight he carries from her death or the following events that resulted from her death.

He’s a character with a split mask and a split symbol. He’s across from a broken mirror.

He himself is broken from the loss. We’ve see plenty of clues for that. TT might carry a fractured identity (mask) or mental state. These may be immortalized by the mirrors and him consistently “viewing the tragedy.” Or grieving. Perhaps he tried to view it in different ways or attempts to gain a sense of control from replaying them in his mind. But you can’t control what’s broken. What’s already been done.

Ticket Taker’s mirror is visually distinct to the other troupe members, just as Columbina’s is.

Comparatively, Columbina’s mirror is the tallest.

Her mirror is WELL ABOVE TT’s and the other members of the troupe. This could represent the emotional significance that she has to him. He puts her above himself and likely sees her in an idealized light. She likely IS his light. Her mirror is his favorite. She was likely his favorite. Even now. No one’s mirror comes close.

Also notice some of the surrounding light near the mirrors around her’s. Her pink pools and reflects off the other tall mirrors.

Mirror Connection Example

Putting it into perspective now (with TT as the example), the positioning of his mirror may suggest the order of his preferences.

1. Columbina (most emotionally connected; [GFT] ; significant size difference)

2. Jester (respect; beside him)

3. Doctor (complicated; diagonal)

4. Harlequin & Pierrot (seperated by Jester and Doctor’s mirrors, furthest from him).

The Broken Mirror

I think Ticket Taker broke the mirror from an episode he may have had.

When we consider the imperfections that are in the troupe’s reflections, it can be predicted that he makes these reflections from memory (hence why he doesn’t get every little detail correct).

So that would mean that the broken mirror is a memory of his. Lacing this back to a previous point, he may have held onto this memory in particular so he could replay it over and over. Then he would break the mirror as a cathartic form of control.

The mirror is also mostly obscured by shadow..with a little hint of light. It reminds me of his mask, but it’s more…uneven.

also just wanted to point out ivan and luka literally guarding themselves from the heart arrows, ivan seemingly unsuccessfully (since the arrow points towards him unlike luka). imo it’s almost certainly something to do with their emotional unavailability & attempts to tamp down their feelings. But I want to share my opinions on this one since it just, well- strike on my mind

The characters are divided with these hearts surrounding their name with their corresponding eye color

So I'm assuming the reason why Sua and Ivan are holding an apple is prolly because it's a visual representation of who they love.

Sua is holding the apple with tender care using both of her hands just like how she have her feelings for Mizi, she treasures their relationship so much that Sua looks stressed (at the picture) since she knows the bad things that the aliens are doing in their society unlike Mizi who has a supportive and non-abusive aliens/guardians and doesn't have a clue (yet) on the negative side of these alien invasion.

When it comes to the outfit, she's wearing a princess gown.. but with a cape(?) like a superhero cape one? Is that why they deleted it because it shows a sign about the ROMH Sua ver?

"My savior, pitiful lady. Make me your god, I can give you everything"

It also shows that Sua is Mizi's inspiration, savior, or even a hero the moment they met, and have that spark even grew while she admires her.

Ivan is holding the apple carefree, even smiling in the picture, showing no signs of any negative feelings (stressed, upset, anger, etc.)

This is something like- how we view Ivan base on appearance yet never know what runs on his mind behind that smile, knowing that something negative may be happening but he still keeps his calm composure about it.

As for his outfit, a charming prince, simple design for someone who has good looks

Hyuna.

She's not holding any apple. Which means that she don't have any feelings for anyone (sorry Luka) but she's doing a gun sign instead, which is foreshadowing on her situation since she got shot on her right arm.

Now, as much as possible I don't want our queen Hyuna to die at the next round but I think there's a 50/50 possibility.

That picture at the top is a picture of dead characters, but Hyuna isn't dead(?) is this foreshadowing that Hyuna is next??? Aside from being shot at her arm, we'll never know what did Mizi and Hyuna do next since there primary goal there is to save the alien stage contestants, and it's smh delayed since they got into a trouble that they never expected to happen.

On her outfit, I don't know what style is this called my bad, but she got this purple coat, black fur, and a hat with a feather on it.

PURPLE COAT. PURPLE. She's wearing a color associated with someone. (I hope that this isn't just color theory, if it is I'm going to cry)

Luka has been associated with purple in a lot of scenes.

In my opinion, Luka has a part in Hyuna's life ofc, even though Hyuna doesn't have this romantic feelings for Luka, she still values him as a childhood friend but then their relationship as they grow up begins to be complicated. (I won't explain it any further since this might become a whole ahh fanfic with how much number of the words that I've typed out)

So, I think, that Luka will be involve when something bad happen to Hyuna, but I really hope nothing bad happens to her since she has a great potential on how the story plot will go.

Ok so i love this analysis. Which is why i am interested to learn who Hyuna is supposed to look like because Sua is drawn as Snow White because her character is inspired from her. Her prince is Mizi. Sua is very fragile, kind, beautiful princess, she was jeolous by her sisters and her owner, just like how witch hated her. She needs to be kissed by her saviour to wake up. Though, in this case, she wakes Mizi up by her death and saves her eventually.

And Ivan is called like a charming prince by Mizi, his personality is prince like. Everyone admires him so Prince Charming fits him and his Cinderella is Till, lol. Cinderella has very unfortunate, sad life until she met her fairy mother and prince. Just like Till, who is always in bad sitution. And prince needs to find him because Cinderella is like a hidden treasure, like Till. He is the one who treats him that way. And he saves his Cinderella. Ivan saves his precious one. And i think Till's fairy mother is (maybe Mizi too), her mother who prayed God for her son to be loved and apperantly, Ivan's name is also read as "God's gift".

Yes, they are protecting their "apple", "Apple in the eye" usually mentioned for someone who is very precious. For Sua, her %100 is Mizi. For Ivan, his %100 is Till. I think Hyuna might've romantic feelings for Luka but i think they are not each other's %100. For Hyuna, her precious one was Hyunwoo. In artbook, she mentions him as her jewel and how she lost him. He is her %100, her Apple. So i think this Apple might not necessarely mean romantic love but who knows. Hyuna's Apple isnt here because her brother is gone. But again, i am also interested in the character who is Hyuna supposed to be here and this relation to her and Luka's story.

escapism vs reality in alien stage

in this post (elaborated greatly by geo's tags as well) i mentioned a big sua/till parallel i noticed (but didn't go into much detail because i didn't want to derail the post lol), and i wanted to go into more detail on that and the overall reality vs fantasy theme alnst has going.

sua & till both use their love for mizi as a form of escapism. sua's love for mizi and the weight of her knowledge of their universe causes her to create a safe (fake) bubble for her and mizi to exist in & makes it as perfect as it can be before they're out of time. till uses his love & admiration for mizi as a beacon of hope, as motivation to go on despite how horribly he's treated in day to day life. mizi is the brightness in both of their dull lives.

this view of mizi as a hopeful, optimistic sort-of deity sheds light onto an entire theme of alien stage, escapism vs reality. it also shows that mizi & ivan, in this specific instance, are antitheses of each other.

mizi, as a character, symbolizes hope and escapism. she is the only character out of the main four that didn't understand the exact conditions of their world due to how she was raised. she does not fully grasp how horrifying the alnst universe is until she watches sua die, which is the inciting incident for the entire series. escapism isn't possible anymore, but hope is still there when she gets rescued by hyuna and joins the rebellion.

ivan, on the other hand, literally symbolizes truth and the reality of their world. since he was born he understood the cruelty the segyein are capable of and knows exactly where he stands in the world. he is seen to be fatalistic and even nihilistic. his death, which he sees as an inevitability, is the second inciting incident (the one where everything goes to shit chaos afterward). it is a brutal reminder of the truth of alien stage to both the characters and the audience.

sua & till actively seek out mizi as solace in their pain, and they both actively avoid ivan (in their own ways) and the connections he has to reality.

sua avoids ivan because, well, he's mean to her, but mostly because he's not even trying to be mean, he's just objectively right and she doesn't want to hear it. he is a reminder not only of the cruel world they live in but her own 'twistedness'. he reminds her that she is not solely the fantasy she's created with mizi, but someone with unavoidable knowledge of the inevitable (as well as someone who is willfully keeping this information from an unknowing mizi).

till avoids confronting his feelings for ivan and confronting ivan in general because ivan confuses him. his feelings for ivan aren't cut and dry in the way his feelings for mizi are, because ivan is and always will be tied to pain and suffering for till (their first meeting in the auction shop, their miscommunication/strange relationship, the fact that ivan is the only one who sees him at his most vulnerable, etc). ivan's death forces him to confront these feelings (for ivan & about their world in general) but even then he's repressing them until he physically can't anymore.

mizi is escapism & hope, literally realized because she escapes. ivan is reality & a representation of the fate of alnst contestants, literally realized through his death.

it doesn't end there, though. sua & till are escapists running from reality (with diverging paths that are both narratively important in their own ways), while mizi represents escapism & ivan represents reality. along similar lines, but going a step further, hyuna & luka showcase these exact themes.

hyuna is the legitimate showcase of hope, of freedom. she is a free human (as free as you can get in the alnst universe) and the leader of a human rebellion focused on uprising as a race against the segyein.

luka is the perfect example of compliance within reality. he is now a two time alien stage champion and the definition of a pet, no matter how he actually feels.

hyuna & luka are similar to, but a step beyond, mizi & ivan. mizi symbolizes escapism, but she is faced with reality and must grapple it, while hyuna is freedom personified (albeit with demons of her own). ivan symbolizes reality, but he still yearns for something he thinks he'll never have, while luka completely shuts off those emotions because he knows they will only jeopardize his chances of survival.

the characters of alien stage perfectly embody one of the core themes of alien stage, the discrepancy between fantasy and truth, and the way those can coincide in a world.

I love this but i feel the need to add this detail;

I think Mizi's opposite is meant to be Luka. She is ESFP. He is INTJ. She is positive AB, the taker in blood types. She is positive person who gets a lot of love from others. Luka is negative 0, the giver. He is the character with less identity, he has no sense of sense on his own. This is why he feel need to prove his worth to the aliens, unlike Mizi who clearly has more agency i her life. Luka lives for the performance, for others, so he is giver with negative personality.

On other hand, Hyuna is more aware of version of Mizi. She is dreamer too but she is more realistic version of her. And Luka is more realist version of Sua, they both live in 'sweet dream' in their mind but Luka is more connected with reality than her.

RECOLLECTION IS MY (nth) FAVORITE SENTIMENTAL ANAKT GARDEN ERA PIECE and even better, its prompt is nostalgia, pieces of memories held most dear by their person and the feelings held behind it in the moment

I think the marker colors are coded to represent who the perspective belongs to, so it's probably not HyunA, not Hyunwoo, but Luka who excluded himself and messily scribbled his face out, so HyunA and Hyunwoo are the only ones in focus (sort of, since Hyunwoo has some scribble on his face too) It's also interesting how messy the scribble is that it extends beyond the border of the memory and makes it look cracked and more distorted. It's such a fond and familial-like memory, but my first thought is that Luka looks like the odd one out, it's not just Luka and HyunA, and this imagery reflects how Luka perceives himself as an outsider compared to the siblings because of their bond, since truthfully, he can't properly connect to them. He grew up differently; he's not like them, but he always wanted to try, and his efforts caused irreparable suffering to the person he cared about most, when Luka looks back at his childhood, maybe he thinks about what he could've, should’ve done differently. Or if he were out of the picture entirely

Sua was most attached to Mizi, who happily sang with her and stuck by her side, and Sua always shared her most sincere smiles and happiness with Mizi, too. Despite the gentle atmosphere, there is an inclusion of something like a web enclosing them, similar imagery to the way Sua always wanted to protect Mizi and herself by shielding them away from the real world outside of that bubble of ignorance they curated, the moment is otherwise untampered with because Sua's most cherished memories with Mizi are always pure and comforting.

compared to the way Mizi and Sua are captured in a moment of intense happiness, the laughter almost audible, Ivan and Till's memory feels quiet, peaceful, and warm. For all the times they fought and bickered, in moments like these when they could just silently exist near each other, those were the moments they were closer, happiest, and the moments with Ivan that Till held close.

What’s also different about this is the privacy they have in comparison. Ivan and Till are far away as if they’re in their own world distant from us, but there's probably a bigger picture. We aren't really in the moment with Ivan and Till, Till's doodle framing them might symbolize their environment, the feeling of being trapped. As a part of daily life, Anakt Garden kids are always being observed and watched over like isolated fish restricted to an idealistic environment with four walls, in a way, it does feel like we are just observing them from a distance.

Despite the circumstances, In that fish bowl with Till were the people he cared about most, his whole inner world and creative mind, the memories he cherished. The comfort of at least having the people he cared about with him in those moments is what made those memories most precious to his heart

What i found interesting is that Yellow is probably Luka's colour, its drawn from his perspective. Purple is more Sua's colour, from her perspective. But Green is more Till's colour than Ivan's so it is interesting to think about 🤔.

Allow me to psychoanalyse this drawing-

I think this drawing was made by Luka. Mainly, due to the fact that Hyuna is the one drawn with the most detail. I think it's also fairly obvious with how it's drawn, that it was made by Luka when he became friends with the siblings.

That leads me to my next point; Luka did not dislike Hyunwoo. I'd even go as far as to say he regarded him in a positive manner. He is the only other person here besides Hyuna who is not blonde.

Now, why is everyone else blonde? I think it's because Luka was imagining a life with his clones and the siblings, in Anakt Garden.

He looks horrified in this scene. It doesn't seem like he took joy or even feels numb here. He looks to be in genuine shock over what happened.

The body don't have a single stab wound either. None that we can see. All we see is the cases they're in shattered. Like they were released and they weren't able to survive.

Here, he's just looking at them. No attempt to get closer, nor to destroy them. He just looks on.

The drawing makes me think that Luka was seeking out other people. He was, in every way, a lonely child. He wanted a sense of belonging. He wanted him and his clones, and Hyuna and Hyunwoo to all just...live happily in Anakt Garden.

And with the few frames we get of this incident throughout, it does seem like Hyunwoo was the one to throw the first punch. Luka never initiated a fight, he always just annoyed Hyunwoo who would respind angrily. It didn't make sense why he would just randomly kill Hyunwoo.

With this, it makes more sense. Luka killed Hyunwoo through an accident. It was a fight gone too far. He does not feel remorse, but it doesn't seem like he actively wanted to kill him.

If this is truly the case, then while Hyuna is right to hate him because he does not feel conscious regret over this, her speech at the at also makes sense. Because she knows he truly is just...clueless.

Luka has never truly allowed himself to mourn loss, or regret actions. He was constantly chasing a high, which he got from Hyuna. He loved her, he truly did. But it was initially borne out of her giving him a sense of belonging.

He loved her because she gave him what he was seeking out from his clones; to erase the loneliness he felt.

Luka is clueless about his own emotions. Him and Ivan are alike in that sense. They both are unable to properly understand their feelings. But while Ivan allows his love to be a silent protector, Luka is much more childish and desperate.

Luka, in every way possible, is just a lonely child.

I am glad that other people mentioned this too. He loved his clones, Hyuna, Hyunwoo and thats why he was always struggling with self hatred and that is why Hyuna tells him to forgive himself. He is like such a little baby-child.

i love the differences in their heart eyes.

mizisua have large, matching hearts with the whites of the heart being large as well.

hyuna and ivan both have smaller hearts, but the white in hyuna’s is properly shaped like a heart and it corresponds to the sizing of mizi & sua’s. on the other hand, ivan doesn’t have a white heart at all, but a small white dot.

luka and till don’t have heart eyes at all, which is soo interesting.

also just wanted to point out ivan and luka literally guarding themselves from the heart arrows, ivan seemingly unsuccessfully (since the arrow points towards him unlike luka). imo it’s almost certainly something to do with their emotional unavailability & attempts to tamp down their feelings. (till, on the other hand, seems to only clutch his heart after he was already affected. he feels his emotions fully but still tries to repress them)

I think pink hearts symbolize desires, mostly romantic and sexual, and white heart symbolize pure, healthy love.

This explains why Mizisua have both big pink and white hearts and with Hyuna too but smaller version. I think Mizisua's heart is bigger than Hyuna's because its mutual.

It explains why Ivan has pink heart but no white heart because his love is mostly attachment and sexual.

Till closes his eyes and there is no hearts. He has a crush on Mizi but his love isnt sexual nor pure, its mostly idolization of her.

With Luka, i think there is no heart because he is repressing and his love is very child-like, less sexual and less healthy.
