Volkner’s eyes widened a bit as he was handed the neatly wrapped up box. “…Roark you didn’t have to…” He wasn’t going to say no though. The time he said no to cupcakes is a time when Diglet show what the part of them underground looked like.
A small smile crept onto his face as he tore the paper to shreds, pulling out one of the baked goods. “You want one?” He held it out to the other, still trying to figure out how to say thank you.
Seeing Volkner smile just made Roark smile even more. Getting the stoic man to show positive emotion always felt like such a victory.
"Nah, I'd rather just watch you enjoy them," Roark responded, then added, "...Okay, that sounds kind of weird. I just meant, I'd rather you eat them, because they're for you after all."
"Huh!" Volkner jumped as Roark seemingly appeared out of thin air. "…This ugly thing?" He pointed to his sweater and shrugged. "Found it online. I could find you one I guess."
He shrugged and placed his mug of cocoa down, leaning against his desk, staring the other up and down. “….Your cute when you all giddy.”
"Yay, matching Christmas sweaters." It was so cliche and silly, but Roark was a sucker for stuff like that.
"You are too, that's why I brought you something!" He handed Volkner a wrapped box. "They're cupcakes, just telling you so you don't shake it or anything. I didn't know what flavors you liked best, so I got you a few different ones."
Enter Volkner walking into his classroom with a really ugly sweater that had a bunch of Stantler on it as well as some blinking christmas lights and a cup of hot cocoa. Along with the bordest expression ever.
Enter Roark totally not stalking him, what are you talking about whose eyes grew wide upon seeing the sweater.
"So... adorable..." Volkner probably would be startled by him appearing out of nowhere like that, but it didn't even cross his mind to announce his presence. "Where do I get a matching one, huh?" He grinned.
You know what my favorite holiday song is?
Rock of Ages.
i’M GONNA MARRY HIM
can’t wait until the sinnoh remakes, where we can see gym leader roark in stunning HD
Volkner couldn’t help the soft smile that tugged at his lips as he took Roark’s hand, walking down the sidewalk, watching as little kids ran past in their own ridiculous Halloween costumes. “Was worried you’d think this was a stupid idea.” He shrugged and twirled his little candy bucket around his free wrist.
The lights of the amusement part grew brighter as they got closer. “You look cute, in that. It…oddly fits you.” His eyes glanced up and then the redhead, giving his hand a soft squeeze. “I like this time of year. It’s cool but not too cold, the leavs are falling but not all of them have fallen off, smells like fall. We don’t get this much in Sunnyshore. Being a beach and all.”
"Nah, you kidding? I love stupid ideas." Way to not deny it.
Roark smirked. "You think? I guess you better watch out then, 'cause if you're not careful I'll start doing experiments on you." He was getting way too into this -- and also blissfully ignoring how awkward that sounded. "You do too. You look like one those vampire heartthrobs from some corny romance novel. ...Not in a bad way."
He squeezed Volkner's hand back. "Yeah, autumn is nice. I always liked playing in leaf piles when I was younger because I thought I camouflaged with my red hair and all... hey, I guess you do too, kinda." Another terrible joke.
It was Halloween, Volkners favorite time of year. What else to do other than to spend time with your boyfriend and stuff your face full of candy. However, he really hadn't been doing too well on the spending it with your boyfriend part and was running out of candy. So he threw on his costume, a suit with a red cape and fake little vampire teeth, traveling to Roark's front door where he waited for the other to answer. "There's a Halloween thing going on at the amusement park. Wana go?"
Roark had dressed up a little bit in case little kids came to the door as a mad scientists of sorts, pulling his hair back to draw stitches on his face and wearing gloves and a lab coat with fake blood splattered on the front. He figured that in a sense, since he was already a mad geologist, it was hardly even dressing up.
He hadn’t been expecting Volkner, though. And in costume, no less.
"…" Roark wanted to berate him for not coming by for a while, but it was hard when the other looked so ridiculously adorable dressed as a vampire like that, and he found himself grinning despite himself. "That sounds like a lot of fun, and it beats staying here. So, sure! Lead the way." He stepped out and closed the door behind him, leaving a bowl of candy outside his door in case anyone came by and wanted some.
Rock Climbing ROCKS | Roark and Volkner
Volkner sighed as he sat there for a while, trying to regain his composure. Part of him really wanted to get down yet at the same time he wanted to keep going, if nothing else but to be a show off.
"…"At least Roark’s words were encouraging to say the least. He looked up at the wall once more, taking another step up. Alright, that as high enough. "Yeah…i’m getting pretty tired…" That was the reason he was going to use, not the fact that he was terrified of heights. And with that he repelled his way back down, landing on the ground with a soft thunk a,d tried to keep his knees from buckling under him.
Whether or not Volkner was actually scared, Roark wasn't going to mention it. After all, he understood the man's need for pride. That was why he hadn't gone first, and he respected that.
"Hey hey, you were great," he said upon Volkner's landing, flashing the other a grin. "You definitely looked a lot less stupid doing that than I did skating. Although that's not too hard to do."

Rock Climbing ROCKS | Roark and Volkner
"Yah…no shit…" Volkner muttered to himself as he took a soft breath, pushing his fears aside. He couldn’t look like a wimp in front of Roark. Much less everyone that was currently in the same building. "I’m fine." He called back down, glancing back up at the wall as he continued to climb, giving his mind something else to focus on.
Thing had been going well till he almost got to the top where the rocks were smaller, fewer, and further between. He had just stepped up onto another foothold when… “Haa!” His foot slipped right out from under him, face meeting wall in a rather unpleasant collide. He adjusted his foot, regaining his bearings and accidentally looked back down. It wasn’t a long look, but it was enough to make him cling to the wall. 'Come on Volk…you can make it.'
Ouch... that looked like it hurt. Luckily he had a firm grasp on the rope, so Volkner wasn't going anywhere, but that still didn't look comfortable. To say the least.
"Are -- are you sure that -- ?" He didn't want to embarrass Volkner, so he cut himself off before he could ask the question. "You're doing really well, honest. Most people wouldn't even make it that far on the first try. I believe in you." He grinned up at Volkner before remembering that Volkner wasn't watching him. Hopefully, anyway, because that would mean he was looking down again.

"Yeah." He chuckled as the helmet was clipped on his and the kiss was pushed into his cheek. "I’ll be alright, I have you holding me, don’t you." He nodded and tussled Roark’s hair before moving to the wall, staring up at it. It looked…much taller than before. With a soft breath he put a foot on the best hold he could find and started climbing his way up. Don’t drop the rope Roark, you’re the one that has to stare at his butt the whole time.
He made it about halfway up the wall before taking a small break, his arms already starting to feel a bit tired. More so his fingers than anything. He took the time to look out at his view, seeing most of the arena from here, that is until he looked down. The moment he did his stomach dropped, head swiftly turning back to stare at the wall. “Holy shit…” He muttered to himself. The fact that he was this high up and the only think preventing him from falling was a rope. Well…and Roark, but still. 'Don't think about it, just keep going…'
As much as he wanted to just stare at Volkner, Roark was taking this whole ordeal seriously. But he had taken enough people rock climbing to know when someone was nervous, and he was very aware of Volkner's nerves now. Should he mention it, or would it injure Volkner's pride?
"I can let you down, if you want," Roark said hesitantly from below. "Or if you need a rest, you can just let go and I can hold you there. I probably should have mentioned... it's better to look up than down."

"Alright…" Volkner nodded as he stepped into the harness loops, tightening it up to where it was comfortable. "So use my legs…got it." He mumbled. To be honest his arms were more in shape than his legs. Then again working with a wrench all way will do that to you.
Eventually they made it down to the landing, Volkner’s eyes following the different colored rocks all the way up to the top where a bell sat. That was his goal and that’s what he had to reach. “I trust you Roark, you don’t have to go into all the fancy technical stuff.” He chuckled and stole the others helmet, clipping it on. “Uhh, could you help get this adjusted…” He pointed at the helmet.
"Haha... um, yeah, sorry. I kinda got carried away."
With a nod, he tightened the helmet, then put his hands on Volkner's shoulders. "I'm sure you'll be fine. I won't judge you no matter what." Awkwardly, he leaned forward and kissed him lightly on the cheek. He... wasn't too great at this whole public-displays-of-affection thing. It just made him feel flustered, and if he didn't concentrate, well, maybe he would actually drop the rope. Nah. I'm exaggerating. But... "Anyway, you can start whenever, then."
