REVIEW: 'Run And Hide' by Alan McDermott
REVIEW: ‘Run And Hide’ by Alan McDermott
I’d been a fan of Alan McDermott’s work for some time, having got hooked on the high-octane, pure thrills of his excellent Tom Gray series – so when I was afforded the opportunity of an early read of his new book, Run and Hide, I leapt at the chance.
This is the first book of an all new series featuring Eve Driscoll, an ex-operative for the US government, who plummets headlong into the shady…

The Story Behind A Wanted Man by Robert Parker

The Breaking of Liam Glass, and trying something a little new…
Let me preface this little brain-squeeze by saying that I can’t recall reading any satire before, so the finer nuances of the genre may be a little lost on me. I came by The Breaking Of Liam Glass through my wonderful publicist Linda MacFadyen, and liked the sound of what the pre-publication soundbites were saying – hinting at a crime story that is both very topical and darkly funny. Having now…

The Dry and its amazing claustrophobic openness…
I grabbed The Dry by Jane Harper on a whim, having seen that beautiful jacket and read half a line of the synopsis. I think I’d clicked BUY NOW before I’d even realised I’d done so. I’m a huge sucker for atmospherics, mysteries, fascinating locations and dark backstories. So me and The Dry hit it off immediately. What I didn’t know however, was that the book has been lauded internationally for…

New books and ripping reads Can't believe I'm in a list with such incredible crime fiction heavyweights! So happy to be there, and even happier that people are enjoying 'A Wanted Man'!
The Last Cut, But A Great New Series
The Last Cut, But A Great New Series
One of my formative memories in my fledgling writing career was at Bloody Scotland in September 2014, when, bumbling and in awe, I asked Danielle Ramsay to sign a paperback for me. I proceeded to go beetroot red as I pulled out more and more dog-eared books for her to sign, while she was a pillar of patience. She asked me what I did, and when I replied sheepishly that I had just got a literary…

A Wanted Man - published!
A Wanted Man – published!
It’s with great delight that I can share the news that A Wanted Man, my debut novel, has been published by Endeavour Press. You can grab it here! A Wanted Man is, simply put, the story of a soldier who was discarded, but still has more to give. I kept asking myself what it would feel like to give everything for your country, only to come back to find everything was different – including yourself.…

Old Faithful
Nice recent family sunshine holiday enhanced by enjoying a favourite author’s standalone work. The thing with CJ Box is that he’s so reliable that I don’t even see it as expenditure when I order his books – I know it’s going to be what I’m after. It’s a happiness investment. This was a cracker, with a plot/characters that could be from next year’s biggest movie blockbuster.

My Sister’s Grave and where your moral compass lies…
Read this great novel, My Sister’s Grave by Robert Dugoni, and really enjoyed it. I grabbed it after seeing an advert for Dugoni’s latest, and wanted to go back to the start of the series – yep, I’m one of those. Can’t just dive in at any point, have to go right back to the start and see things through as the author intended. So, this is the first book in Dugoni’s Tracy Crosswhite series, and it…

That rarest beast: a villain that is somehow evil AND sympathetic?
That rarest beast: a villain that is somehow evil AND sympathetic?
I’ve waxed lyrical on here before about my love of Ace Atkins’ Quinn Colson books, and am working my way steadily through the stories. Each one seems better than the last, which is quite some feat, but there is no doubt this is crime writing of the highest order, with a cast of characters that I now find utterly indispensable. However, while reading The Broken Places, the third in the Quinn…

Two hauntings, two very different deliveries… two great reads
Every now and then a thirst for a scary story rears its ugly head, and I take a break from my usual crime novel inhaling to satisfy it. The last two I’ve read have both been so good, yet so markedly different, in the way that the authors have decided to set up their fictional world, and deliver the hauntings themselves. Sometimes when I read ghost stories etc, I feel a little deflated that the…
