she did not like to see those she was fond of be in such pain. adelaide may have been loyal to france, but she could not help but like the english royal family, and made quite clear connections with anybody associated to them. she respected them massively, and knew robert would have made an excellent king. it was awful, what had been revealed, but it was tradition, and as much as she hated it, such things would not change. there was no doubt in her mind that catherine would not be great, too, but she understood how this could ruin robert’s life. of course she was eager to help him, but was at a loss as to how, for there was not much that she could do as a royal from the opposite side with minimal power in general.
adelaide offered him a comforting smile at his words. “thank you. i am glad you are, too. it is nice to see a familiar face.” she watched the sadness in his gaze, wondering what on earth he could be thinking. “it may be the end of life as you know it, robert, but that does not mean it is all dreadful. and it is okay not to be always be alright, for even the strongest of men have their bad days.”
Pain was all he knew now. His beard had grown remarkably over the last few days and he was somewhat of a mess. He looked at Adelaide with a struggling smile, trying his best to keep his inner struggles inside. “I cannot decide where to go now. A part of me just wants to run away and leave, find somewhere better to be. It’s hard, being this way, but it’s the way things are now. I wonder if they will accept me in an army somewhere...,” he said, sharing his thoughts. “If you know anyone who willing to accept a bastard, tell me. I will gladly accept anywhere that will take me,” he said with a soft smile.
“I hope I’m not bothering you too much with my issues. I may not be the best person to hang around with these days, unfortunately.”
