I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pacific Rim, so I needed to do this.
I'd love to write a fanfic or script about this idea, but since I'm pretty busy with work, I'll just write the main points for now!
FAZCO is a private company contracted by the government to combat the Kaiju after their appearance on the coast over a decade ago.
The mechas are piloted by an animatronic and a human. The animatronic manages logistics and provides real-time data analysis, while the human controls the mecha's movements.
The pilots are treated like celebrities, and FAZCO makes a lot of money from their appearances and endorsements.
The human pilot and the animatronic share a mental link similar to that in Pacific Rim, sharing memories and thoughts.
Sun and Moon were the first attempt to create a mecha that didn't need a human pilot: Project "Crimson Eclipse."
They share the same body, as only one pilot was supposed to be needed. Sun would control logistics, while Moon would control movement.
A mysterious incident caused Moon to become corrupted and cause a disaster before their mecha's official debut.
The DCA was taken offline until FAZCO was forced to restart the project due to a sudden surge in Kaiju. But only Sun was activated; Moon remained dormant to prevent the corruption from spreading.
Project "Crimson Eclipse" would return, this time with a human pilot.
The problem is, no one can connect with Sun. FAZCO tries every qualified employee until finally resorting to lower-level staff.
YN, the newest junior maintenance technician, turns out to be the only suitable candidate. Needing the money, they agree to become the pilot.
However, during their first official battle against a Kaiju, Moon awakens once more.
Now Sun, Moon, and YN will have to learn to work together to fight the Kaiju, keep Moon's awakening a secret from FAZCO, and uncover what happened during the incident that corrupted Moon.
And that's the gist of it! I have some ideas for the design of the other mechs, which would be piloted by the other animatronics and their human partners. And I have a story developing in my head that I hope to write whenever time allows it.
Anyways, if you haven't watched Pacific Rim, go watch it! 10/10 movie.
