mental health check: how are you and your characters doing?

Thanks for checking in. If you want me to be totally honest, it’s been a little rough. (TW:CANCER) My mum is going through a lot of cancer treatments and this year she is being particularly morbid about death and not seeing another Christmas and trying to be the positive one is very emotionally draining but I’m trying my best to make it special despite all of the restrictions in place due to Boris (PS: if you can get the song ‘Boris Johnson is a fucking cunt’ to be our Christmas number 1, I would be grateful). Anyway:

Robyn isn’t doing too well. It’s her first Christmas without Elijah around and she’s mostly just on her own dealing with the consequences of her own actions and getting drunk in her flat. Honestly, she needs a hug.

Elijah is great as he usually is for the most part. He’s excited to be an uncle and looking forward to making it a special Christmas. It’s a little tough on him because he does try to defend Robyn for not being there but he’s struggling to make it through the noise in his family.

I really can’t picture anyone having a crush on me - like, the very idea makes me want to laugh because it’s so absurd. I can’t picture someone constantly thinking about me or getting flustered when I smile or someone wanting to shower me with affection. Someone who anxiously waits until I text them and then smile when I do or someone who gets nervous when we are in touch because they don’t want to fuck up. Why on earth would someone do that because of me.

Sami had thought about kissing her so many times and now that it was finally happening, he didn’t want it to stop - especially when she seemed to deepen the kiss further. It was like a dream, intoxicating him more than he already was. He eventually pulled back and looked straight in to her eyes. “Want to get out of here?”

“More than anything.” Robyn remained very close to him and giving him a quick kiss to confirm it. “Yours or mine?”

Sami couldn’t contain the smile that grew when she told him she loved him. It wasn’t exactly the setting he’d ever pictured this moment happening in but he didn’t care. “I love you too, Robyn.” Himself being drunk, he wasn’t really thinking about what he was doing and ended up pulling her in to a kiss.

Robyn definitely hadn’t been expecting the kiss but in her drunken state, she wasn’t thinking about the repercussions of her actions. She instantly kissed him back and if anything, made the kiss way more passionate than even Sami was putting in to it.Her hands moved from the back of his neck to his cheeks.

The closeness to her wasn’t unfamiliar but felt different somehow. He couldn’t help but marvel at all those perfections he’d written about so many times before. “I’d never let you down, Robyn. You know that.” 

“I am so lucky to have you in my life, Sami.” Robyn told him and she genuinely meant that. However, her next words would end up being a drunken move. “I love you so much, you know that right?”

“That sounds pretty good to me.” Robyn commented. “Me? Oh, Eli is in London for a month to help with my sister’s baby. Oh yeah, she gave birth so I guess I’m an aunt now.”

Hunter looked into the girls eyes with a grin on his face as she pressed forwards against him. He’d much preferred them to dance like this for the rest of the night if it were his choice to do so. “Thought you were scared of getting close for me a second then.” His hands pressed to the small of the girls back as he closed any gap that was left between the two of them. His hips followed the rhythm of Robyn’s. His eyes darted from the girls eyes to her pretty lips as she spoke to him. “Much better.” He’d drunk a couple of drinks tonight but was not shy to flirt right back to Robyn. “You’re Robyn, right? I asked one of my guy friends who the pretty girl across the room was earlier on tonight.”

“I’d never be scared of a cute face.” Robyn complimented, looking up to his face when she said this. She gently bit her lip when she noted his eyes move to her lips. “That’s right, Robyn.” Her cheeks blushing slightly at the compliment. “And who are you?”

Hunter smiled as he approached the brunette who looked like she was having a grand time. Hunter wasn’t a dancer by any means but he knew how to dance at parties just like this one. “Only the best ones.” He could see the girls hips swaying in the with the bass of the music. Hunter felt Robyn’s hands press to his shoulders as she used his body to support herself up. Hunter’s large hands pressed to the girls waist as he let a small laugh escape from his mouth. “You can get closer to me, Robyn. I don’t bite. Are we leaving room for Jesus or something?”

"Can’t wait to see them.” Robyn laughed. “No room for Jesus here.” And with that, her body moved to press tightly against his while still maintaining her sway. “That better?”

“That sucks, doesn’t it?” The woman frowned, sad for her friend. It seemed like she’d went through the same sorts of things that Lupita did at home. “Honestly, that’s why I love heartfelt gifts more than pricey ones. I’m just not used to people being so nice, it’s strange to me and I don’t know how to accept it.”

“Yeah. I guess you get used to it though.” Robyn told her with a shrug, knowing that the other knew what it was like to get used to things like that. “I 100% get that. Maybe one day we’ll be better at accept presents...”

Lovey chuckled once the wine was brought out. “Sounds good,” she nodded, grinning and filling her own glass. “You know, the last time I had wine and watched TV with a cute girl, we ended up in bed together,” she admitted, laughing softly at the memory. Of course, that entire situation ended in heartbreak for Lovey. It was something she grew out of and learned from, though. She knew that now.

Robyn didn’t expect what Lovey was saying to come out of her mouth and at the same time, it didn’t stop her cheeks growing warm at the thought. Lovey was beautiful and for her to call her cute, it was enough to make her blush. “So, um, disney? What do you want to watch? Is there a  favourite film you like?”

Sami hadn’t expected to find Robyn at the party tonight but that didn’t stop the smile on his face when he saw her. He was making his way over when she clocked him and asked him to dance. “Would I ever say no to you, beautiful?” Sami put out his hand for her to take and once she did, he pulled her in to start dancing with her. It was fair to say he was definitely on his way to getting drunk too. 

“You never have so far.” Robyn replied with a smile from him pulling her in to dance with her. Her arms moved around to rest at the back of his neck which pulled her in closer to him. If she was honest, she didn’t actually have a clue how close she actually was to him in that moment. “You’re such a good friend, Sami. Have I ever told you that? You’re so good to me.”

Hunter loved to party so tonight wasn’t much different to most other nights that he spent here. The parties were the highlight of his life at Monarch. He loved to get drunk and party too hard. Hunter looked the girl up and down as she took another shot and almost fell backwards while tipping the content into her mouth. His mouth curved as the girls gaze caught his attention. He nudged a couple of friends out of the way until he face-to-face with the girl the small brunette. “Always! What dance moves are we doing?” He started to sway from side to side as the bass from the music bounced around the room. He held his hand up right for the girl to hold too. “Need my hand to stable you?”

Robyn smiled as he made his way over to join her and didn’t hesitate to start swaying her hips with the music running through her body. “What moves you got?” She asked, a hint of flirting behind her words but in her drunken haze she wasn’t too sure what she was saying. Her eyes looked to the arm he held out to try and keep her steady but soon her hands moved to his shoulders to support herself instead. “Thanks.”

“Not to turn this into a pity party but… before I enrolled at Monarch, I never really regularly received gifts at all. So these days, pretty much any gift is something I’m really grateful for.”

“I actually understand that a lot more than you think. I only really got presents from Eli growing up. My sister once bought me a dress that was too small so she took it back so she could wear it. I’m not sure if that counts as a gift.” She confessed. “That’s a really nice way of looking at gifts though. I just don’t know how to react to getting presents now.”

“Thanks.” Lovey laughed along softly. “I swear, my dogs are like bloodhounds. Although some of them are traitors, and like my friends more than they like me,” She joked with a grin, her eyes wandering to look for the wine. Lovey really was one to pregame, even when she was just drinking casually with friends. 

“I get that. He doesn’t care that much about me when I have guests that will give him attention around.” This being a prime example. Once Robyn had Disney+ set up, she hopped up to go to the kitchen and grab two bottles of the wine and two glasses. “There’s another four bottles but we should still probably save some for Eli since they’re technically his.”
