Phil liked to play the Explorer, for a time until he discovered Strats and Jacksons. Steve played a Gibson (trouble neck) for Bringin on the heartbreak.

The double neck was a nightmare for me tuning wise. Steve would sit on the steps and I would get stabbed by Sav if it was out of TUNE.... Oh dear... I was ready to leave the building. One glance from Sav was enough to convince me that i should leave. Tough times. Sav is the perfectionist, he can detect a minute mistake from a great distance... and in those early days I was the “tech” that was crap!

My first tour (Pyro) I was tech for Steve AND Sav.... hey... that was tough. So I got my arse reamed many times due to my lack of talent. I am glad to say that I have improved since then... but NOT as a tech. Sav gave me the job as Tour Manager in ‘93.... probably because he did not want me dealing with his equipment? Fair enough. But I have never forgiven him. Tour managing is..... well....

Tour managing is somewhat easier... in a kind of way. You get the same shite thrown at you but without the task of fixing the probs of gear.

When Viv Campbell joined the band.. He asked Rick A. “What kind of tech was Malvin?” Rick replied “Well, Malvin was a good friend of Steve.” Fair enough... I laughed harder than everyone else. It was true. I was not the best tech, especially for a band of this size. BUT... Steve LIKED me.

We had such great times together. He laughed at my silly jokes and we both fell to the floor at the most stupid stuff. Steve and I were best friends. The equipment did not matter, the show, because he was SO amazing, always worked. We were the best of buds.

I see pictures of Steve these days and I cry. Because I knew him so well, and I know, more than anyone that his life was wasted by his death.

I see that you folks have photos of Steve as wallpaper. Tonight I would like you to post all of your photos of Steve here. All hail SMC.
