As someone who currently is unlabeled in terms of gender identity, I’m now projecting that onto Yuri as a headcanon, because why not. I’m mainly just writing this for myself, but if you also enjoy this headcanon, then I hope you enjoy reading this! Anyways, here’s a little scenario (which takes place in a modern-day, everyone-is-alive au):

(Charley, Yuri, and Quinn are all sitting around and talking with each other, and at some point, the following conversation happens)

Quinn: “It’s always nice when refers to me with they/them pronouns without me having to ask first. It doesn’t happen often, but it makes me feel good when it does.”

Yuri: (kind of absentmindedly) “Oh yeah, I get that.”

Quinn: “You do?”

Yuri: “Yeah, uh, I like using both he/him and they/them, but until just now, the only person I’ve actually told that to was Janet.”

Quinn: (smiling reassuringly) “Okay. I’ll keep that in mind then.”

Charley: “Wait, so I’ve been misgendering you this whole time by only using he/him for you? Why didn’t you tell me?

Yuri: “I just didn’t wanna be a bother or anything. I mean, yeah, I prefer it when people use both he/him and they/them to refer to me, but I don’t mind just he/him.”

Charley: “Is it a bother when Quinn asks you to use their preferred pronouns?”

Yuri: “What? No! Of course not!”

Charley: “Then would it be a bother when you do it?”

Yuri: “Because I’m just…not as important…”

(Charley grabs Yuri by the shoulders)

Charley: “Don’t you dare say that you aren’t important. You’re so important. You’re important to me because I love you, you’re important to Janet because you two are best friends, and you’re important to all of our other friends because they care about you. You are so incredibly important to so many people, and don’t you ever forget it.”

(Charley then pulls Yuri in for a hug)

Yuri: “I…thank you. I really needed that.”

Charley: “Of course. Anytime.”

Stand by Me headcanons even though no one asked

Gordie LaChance:

Gordie is bisexual

I don’t know if I full-on ship LaChambers, at least not in the actual movie time period, but I think there was a time in Gordie’s life (high school?) where he definitely felt something for Chris

Gordie knew he was bi when he and Chris went to the theater once and he felt a sort of tingly vibe for both the man and the woman on screen

Gordie tried so hard to bury it—he was horribly ashamed, being bi at that time was not acceptable at all

One day he couldn’t take it anymore and he told Denny

He expected to get outed, beaten, something

Denny just pulled him into a big hug and let him cry

“It doesn’t change a thing, Gordie, you hear me? Not a thing.”

Denny’s death was impossibly hard on Gordie; he was the only one he’d been out to

A short time after their journey to find the body, Gordie came out to Chris

He wasn’t so scared this time since he already knew Chris was gay

Chris accepted him wholeheartedly

Gordie would’ve come out to Teddy or Vern if he’d gotten the chance, but they started hanging out less and less after that summer of 1959

Chris Chambers:

Chris is absolutely gay

He knew all the right things to say to pass himself off as straight, but no one in Castle Rock ever believed it

There was always a rumor going around that he was gay, that he used to play with dolls or crush on Marlon Brando

The first rumor was false—his father would’ve beaten him near to death if he’d done that

The second one was true, and Chris was sure Eyeball was the reason it had gotten out

Chris never officially came out to the guys for a long time, and they never mentioned it, but they always figured

In the woods that night, Chris came out to Gordie

“Just another true rumor about Chambers, huh? He’s just a freak like they say!”

“No,” Gordie had assured pulling him into a hug. He thought of Denny. “It doesn’t change a thing, Chris. Not a thing.”

Teddy and Vern woke up to Chris sobbing after that

Like Gordie, Chris never came out to anyone else in Castle Rock

He kept his hookups on the down-low, fooling around in bathrooms or in the woods

Chris and Gordie definitely had something in high school

Before he died, Chris found his life partner, someone he loved dearly

Gordie never knew that, and never learned it

Teddy DuChamp:

STRONG trans boy vibes from Teddy

His father being too insane to notice

His mother being too depressed to care

Teddy fixated on his father’s military career and the masculinity of it all to mask his insecurities and dysphoria

Summer of 1959 was just before he hit puberty

After that, he was never really the same

Teddy got beat up a lot for being a freak

Safe binders didn’t exist, so he used ace bandage (which messed him up pretty bad)

When Chris would try to step up for him, Teddy would get angry, telling him to back off and that he could fight his own battles

This is what eventually drove them apart all together

Teddy’s dysphoria got worse and worse, and he turned towards drugs and alcohol to numb the pain

I like to think that, as an adult, he retrieved a proper treatment for his dysphoria, maybe even a shady version of top surgery

Boyhood suited Teddy, and that’s why he was so terrified to grow up

Vern Tessio:

Pansexual king

Vern is just so nice I don’t know what to say y’all

Vern always felt closest to Teddy, maybe even had romantic feelings for him, but Teddy was straight so Vern forced himself to back off

When Teddy started distancing himself from the group, Vern did too

He found other friends that he felt more comfortable around

Vern never meant to leave Gordie and Chris behind, it just sort of happened as things do in life

Vern lived a happy life, staying mostly towards the heterosexual side of his sexuality so as to avoid conflict

Before Chris died, he did see him in a gay bar once

They didn’t talk, didn’t smile, just nodded, a mutual acknowledgement of each other

Vern cried when he read about Chris in the papers

This kind of just turned into me ranting about their sexualities but I’m hyperfixating right now! My apologies, hope you enjoyed!

“Boyhood suited Teddy, and that’s why he was so terrified to grow up”. Damn, that’s relatable. Though I guess for me it was a mixture of boyhood, girlhood, and childhood that felt suited to and comfortable with. When you’re a kid, people don’t push gendered expectations on you as much. As I child, if you playing a game with your friends, whether you said that you wanted to play a girl, a boy, a genderless alien, or whatever else your imagination could come up with, people would just go along with it. I really enjoyed that aspect of childhood, and I miss it a lot.

And now, on today’s episode of Weirdly Specific Things That Give Me (a gender nonconforming/genderqueer person) Gender Euphoria, we have:

That one part in the game Sally Face where Sal’s dad says, "You know, I may not say this enough, but I'm proud of you Sal. You've come a long way and I know it hasn't all been easy. I look at you now and I'm excited about the man you are becoming. I think you've got a bright future ahead of you. I really do."

That time when I was thrift shopping with my friend, and she referred to using “they/them” pronouns without me even asking (for reference, I use both they/them and she/her)

Adding a skirt to a masculine outfit 

Wearing eyeliner (but specifically in a 2000’s emo kind of way)

Would any fellow School Spirits fans be willing to take requests for Charley x Yuri fics? I have a lot of ideas, but I'm not confident enough in my writing ability to write them myself.

One of the ideas/requests I had in mind was a hurt/comfort fic (and also kind of a Yuri character study, because I relate to him a lot, since I also have anxiety, and I love art, and hate the idea of being seen as useless/a burden or living a boring and lonely life that doesn’t leave any lasting impact on the world or people around me). The fic title would be something along the lines of “5 times Yuri didn’t ask for help and one time he did” (you can probably come up with a better title than me, though). The fic would take place in an AU where all of the ghosts are just regular alive people who all go to the same school. Even though the fic is mainly focused on Charley and Yuri, you can totally include other characters like Maddie, Simon, Wally, Janet, Rhonda, etc.. The plot of the plot would pretty much be what the title says. It’s 5 different times when Yuri struggling physically and/or mentally, but refused to ask for help because he didn’t want to be a burden or didn’t think he deserved help, and then whenever Charley inevitably realized each of those times that something was wrong, he took care of and comforted Yuri. And then in the 6th scenario in the fic when Yuri needs help, he finally actually tells Charley that he needs help, and Charley is so proud of Yuri for being vulnerable and asking for help instead of just pretending that nothing was wrong.

As for each of the different scenarios, one of them could be Yuri getting really focused on an art project and not eating or sleeping enough, and eventually Charley starts getting concerned and lovingly forces Yuri to take a break and rest. Another one of the scenarios could be Yuri having a week where he’s doing really bad mentally trying to hide the fact that he’s tired and miserable and constantly feels like he’s useless and everyone hates him, but Charley can tell that something is wrong, and so he hugs Yuri and lets him cry as much as he needs to because bottling up all of those emotions isn’t healthy. Yet another scenario you could include is Yuri getting sick with something mild, but he doesn’t rest or take time off from school, so his illness just gets worse and worse until eventually Charley is like, “Okay, you definitely need a doctor,” and then takes Yuri to the doctor like the amazing boyfriend he is. The other scenarios can be anything like sickness, injury, a panic attack, fainting, feeling insecure, Yuri’s asthma acting up, or something else like that. Sorry for the request being super long and specific. Have a nice day everyone!
