Hide-and-Seek || Hugh & Mei
@rockettdan
Hugh was so engrossed in training and battling at the woods of Cerulean City that he hadnât noticed the time. His mom had always told him to not stay out late even back in Unova, and considering Kanto was a different region altogether, Hugh should be abiding with those rules much stricter. Â Â Â Â He glanced at his C-Gear, then winced as the screen read 2:00AM. Mom will definitely not be happy about this.
After Hugh won another trainer battle, he decided to call it a night and walked back to Saffron. It was then that his fatigue showed. Hughâs vision swirled, and his knees felt weak from pushing himself past his sleeping time. Â Â Â Â He grunted in annoyance as he continued his walk back to his big-city hotel.
The lively and bright ambience of Saffron even after midnight definitely didnât do wonders for Hughâs condition. The lights blinded him, and the loud people caused his head to throb. He decided to make for a beeline towards his hotel.
Upon reaching one of the quieter alleys of the city, Hugh thought heâd seen a shadow move across the rooftops. Â Â Â Â He squinted to focus on the far sight, and discovered nothing. He wondered if his fatigue was playing tricks on him. Should he be inspecting it..?

Mei had been accepting enough of how her life had played out after the demise of Team Rocket. She had to admit, though, working as a waitress was a million times more boring than being a Rocket grunt. That shit could be boring too, but never like this. Sheâd take Rocket over that goddamn diner any day. There was an exhilaration that came with the missions. Being able to steal money, Pokemon, and items of all sorts gave her a rush that she didnât feel much at all anymore. But thatâs why she came up with a quick solution to her problem.
Maybe itâs a terrible idea. Maybe âmaybeâ is a gross understatement. Mei didnât care, however. She had done this before, delving back into the world of petty thievery for a night. It was her one escape, the one thing that still excited her. She was a criminal at heart, always had been. She was only doing what was meant for her, right?
She had headed to Saffron as Mei figured that committing crimes in Cerulean might not be the smartest idea. She lived there. It would be way too easy to track her. Besides, she knew Saffron well enough. Sheâd been there many times in her childhood. It was a big city that was easy to get lost in, and so it was a perfect hunting ground. She had begun her attack late in the night. There would be less witnesses that way. The city never slept, sure, but few were wide awake or noticing what was happening around them.
Mei had climbed onto the rooftops of an apartment complex. She had tested all the windowsâ mostly locked, some left cracked foolishly. She crept in silently and took whatever she could in five minutes. Every noise made her jump, but she had made it out alive so far. No one had noticed and no cops had been called. All in all, it had been a good night. She had finished off that building and decided to climb back down. The night was still young and Mei was determined to hit some other buildings too if she could manage it.
And thatâs when she suddenly noticed The Eyewitness. Someone was watching her across the alley as Mei climbed down the stairs leading up to the roof. Oh Goddamn it. Had they noticed her thievery? If they were smart, they probably had. No one was shiftily climbing around rooftops of apartment buildings at this time of night. She stood there for a good ten to fifteen seconds, thinking. All of her previous instincts as a Rocket grunt finally kicked in, and she made her move.
Mei bolted.
