The kitsune made a show of stumbling in place and rolling forward, transforming back to humanoid form mid roll. Giggling, Kinu jumped up and waved at Lapis, wide grin on her face.

"I can play tag like this too!" she laughed. "Come on! Let's play! And then you can tell me more about your home too!"

She bounced on her heels, shaking with mirth. A new friend, in her class, and with an interesting sounding home. She bounded back the few steps she had taken and jumped around Lapis with excitement, her ears almost flopping with her movements.

"What's the name of your home?" she asked. "I lived in a Deeprealm in Hoshido for a while!"

Then she bounded away a few steps again, in a manner that almost seemed to taunt "catch me if you can" with all the laughter that could be contained in this bundle of chaotic energy that was Kinu.

"Ah--!" She flinched back in surprise at the instantaneous transformation. None of the dragons she knew ever shifted so close to her--that would take some getting used to.

"Well, I come from Brodia--it's a country in Elyos," she explained, struggling to follow the other's erratic movements with her gaze. "It's a northern country mostly made up of mountains. There are a lot of good views! And the ocean is a really important part of the culture." Not that Lapis ever spent much time around it.

"What's a Deeprealm? A village? Ah--wait up!" Lapis wasn't sure how to hold a conversation while chasing someone, but she would try. Feeling a bit awkward about it, she burst forward a few paces and reached for Kinu's arm.

While Céline's face contorted with hints of concern at Lapis' skin, she was glad to know she hadn't touched anything harmful. If it had been anything worse, the princess would not have hesitated to rush out of the room and find the nearest nurse to help. Nonetheless, such thoughts can be quelled. For now, she had much to learn and Lapis further proved to be the right person for theoe teachings.

It was true that rummaging through Garreg Mach's tucked away drawers was perhaps not a wise call for her to make, but after all she had experienced, a part of her worried. She recalled how their original notice had been looking for test subjects. The wording alone made her wonder what else they may find hidden away. If it proved dangerous or otherwise, it would be best to quell it now than when medicinal herbs and concoctions were most important.

".. I am inclined to say no, but..— If we do not evaluate our surroundings, I fear we may be missing a great deal." Green eyes drifted over towards a cabinet door open slightly ajar, a faint glow omitting from its otherwise darkened premise: "It could not hurt to take a gander. Shall we?" She gestured towards its handle, nodding in turn.

Lapis followed Céline's gaze to the cabinet. Why was it... glowing like that? None of the poisonous plants she knew did that. It occurred to her that she may be out of her depth here. Even still, if it was something dangerous, it was better Lapis deal with it one way or the other before it hurt someone else.

"Okay," she nodded, stepping up to the cabinet. "I'll take a look." After a deep breath, Lapis reached out and pulled the door open. There was an array of different containers all stacked rather precariously--it looked like not much more than a gust of win would send them all clattering down to the floor. One item in particular seemed to be the source of the glow; a glass jar sealed with a piece of paper and string. Inside it looked like some sort of moss--or it would, but the eerie yellow glow rendered the contents unrecognizable.

"Stand back, Princess Céline," said Lapis. "I'll... see what this is." She turned away from the other in the hopes that it would protect Céline from... well, anything really. And then she untied the string to remove the paper.

Instantly, as the substance was met with outside air, it exploded into a puff of glowing smoke right in Lapis' face. She yelped in surprise, losing her hold on the glass, and it shattered on the floor. Glowing moss scattered all over the place.

"Oh no--" Lapis stumbled back a couple paces. "I didn't mean to--I need to clean this up!" She glanced desperately around the infirmary for a broom or something of equal utility. She wasn't any closer to knowing what this stuff was, and now it was everywhere. This was bad.

Lapis blinked down at the letter in her hand, reading it over and over again. This is definitely where she was being summoned to--it was made obvious by the rows of costumes filling the room. But she didn't understand why. She had no acting experience and even if she did, how would this opera company know about her to begin with?

Unsure of what to do next, Lapis meandered down the rows of costumes. There were so many fancy ones--all fit for a king or queen. Was she expected to wear something like this...? What if she got it dirty? There was no way she'd have the money to get it replaced.

One outfit in particular caught her eye. A princely garb, made up of vivid shades of red and blue. Though Lapis feared the worst fortune when it came to her and these clothes, she felt oddly compelled to touch the fabric. With great hesitance, she reached out to brush her fingertips along the sleeve. It was smooth and soft--was this silk? Yeah, it was definitely way too expensive for her to even set her eyes on.

That's when she heard footsteps approaching her. With a yelp, she jumped back from the costumes, suddenly very aware of what she was doing. "I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to--!"

She stopped when she saw the newcomer's familiar face. "Oh--King Corrin?"

"So, um... this is what I needed help with."

This is one of the newer arrivals to the wyvern stables, a heavily patterned spitfire named Nils. According to the stablehands, he was born two weeks ago but has not made much progress in gaining trust with humans. "So they separated him from the rest of the clutch," Alcryst explains as he continues to wrangle the furious wyvernling in his arms. "The knights have been taking turns with taking him out, and today's my turn again..."

The stablehands claimed that Nils acted out of fear, but Alcryst has a hard time believing that as the little creature continues to gnaw on his hands, searching for more treats. "I ran out of treats to give him, so I put out some minnow traps by the fishing pond to catch more. But I don't have enough hands to check traps and keep an eye on him, and—and you're good with animals, so I thought you could help me..."

"Oh--!" Lapis blinked at the rowdy creature. He certainly was a cute little thing, but she could easily see how he might be... difficult. The way the wyvern bit at Alcryst's hands was making her nervous.

She wasn't well versed in how to take care of wyverns. Horses and pigs and cows? Sure--those were simple. But a wyvern? If they had much in common with the farm animals she was used to, she wasn't aware of the similarities.

Still, she didn't want Alcryst to get hurt, so she held her arms out for Nils to be transferred to her care.

"N-not a problem!" she said, though her confidence was shaky at best. There wasn't exactly a good way to go find someone more experienced in large reptiles with Nils squirming around like that, so she would just have to figure it out. "You check the minnow traps and I'll hold onto him. Um, maybe he'll like hanging out at the pond?"

"Oh, I'm fine! It's very kind of you to check in though." Other than knowing that he had been the one who killed Weiss, with his own hands, with his own familiar blade. A blade that now lays on the floor, discarded and set aside. As if he never wishes to touch it again, as if it should never have the blood of someone on it again until eons have passed and Corrin's name no longer taints its lineage.

"If... I were to be honest... I have fought worse battles, seen things that will affect me far more in the long run than all of that... but..." The words catch in his throat, not like he even knew what he was going to say next. Having to fight Weiss was the least of his worries in his psyche, when he knew in the past that he had fought...

(He still can't admit it, still can't let himself know where his draconic blood comes from. It's too hard, if he pretends that he does not know, then he does not have to think about it. Does not have to think that he was the one who killed his own father.)

"What about you though? Are you alright, dear Lapis?"

She watched him as he talked, brow creasing with concern. That... didn't necessarily sound good. Worse battles? Thing that will affect him more in the long term? What did all that mean?

It wasn't Lapis' place to pry no matter how worried she was. But it made her wonder what Corrin has been through. A war -- that much she knew -- but war had endless room for awful little details.

"I'm fine," she said. And she meant it -- not that she was feeling particularly cheery after it all, but she was coping well enough. She gave a little laugh. "Honestly, I'm... I'm really glad none of it was real. There was so much pain in that little village and in the end, I... I couldn't do anything to help." Her gaze fell to the ground, shameful. That really was the worst part of it -- knowing there was nothing she could do. Even after all the promises she made. Her vows to protect those who remained. Villagers just kept getting picked off one by one with no end in sight.

"Do you think..." She hesitated, then shook her head. "This is silly, but... do you think any of them were real? Do you think they had the same dream?"

Corrin's head perks up from his desk as soon as he hears the knock on his door, papers scattered aside as he leaps up in an eagerness to get away from all the work that he had to catch up on after their month "away". Bare feet pad against dusted over floors, the room showing the tendencies of a prince who had never really had to clean for himself before.

He's delighted when he opens the door to see Lapis, offering her a bright smile. He considered her a good friend, and a loyal one at that, and only hoped that she thought the same of him in return. It had been a reassurance, that she had been there, at least for a while, during that strange dream. In all, her presence, how eagerly she would have protected him if she had needed to, that same loyalty, reminded him of his own retainers. He was not her lord, and she was not one of those who served him, but they seemed to share that same bond nevertheless. And Corrin did so value such bonds.

"Oh Lapis! It's lovely to see you! Is there something that you need?"

"King Corrin!" She straightened up the moment he opened the door. "Sorry for bothering you all of a sudden, I was just wondering how you were doing? After, er... everything?"

She caught a glimpse of the other's quarters, immediately feeling guilty for doing so. The room didn't look very clean. Was it because of the shock of their experience? Was Corrin struggling to get through the day? She could barely stop her brow from creasing with worry. Either way, maybe she wasn't supposed to see the room in that state -- she really shouldn't have come here without warning.

"I-I just wanted to say that if you, um, need anything, I'll be here for you!" she stammered. "What we went through... well, it was a lot. And I don't know what happened to you at the end." She frowned. "I'm just seeing if you're alright."

An obstacle course was like a dream come true for he who loved exercise—though this was no dream, just something fun. To run and while at it jump, get the blood pumping... oh how excited he was for this.

Yet what got a sparkle in his eye was the knowledge he had to do it tied to someone else, a way to train strength while also forming a bond with someone—whoever in the church thought of this was a genius and he thanked them for it. But with who he could participate? Everyone seemed a joy to be around, many new faces and many familiar ones.

How hard it was to be met with making choices.

A candle lit in his mind when he noticed short pink hair adorned with a headband—LAPIS. His meeting with Prince Alcryst during times of war had started... sour, but it only took minutes to see how sweet his retainers were, sadly he couldn't say he was the best of friends with them... but he could change this now... good.

With chances to bond with Brodians in mind he ran fast, a little too fast, not the pace a dragon would be able to but one fast enough a human would find ominous. A smile from ear to ear as he shouted almost to her face. "Lapis! Let's participate together!"

An obstacle course, huh? Lapis could probably handle it on her own -- her morning walks did consist of climbing mountains, after all. But tied to another person? That was an interesting twist.

She hovered around the perimeters of the course, intending to observe before trying it herself. Besides, who would she even participate with? Surely no one would want to waste their chance for the grand prize on her.

That's when she heard the sound of her name. She turned towards the voice with curiosity, and then her eyes widened and her heart jumped into her throat. Someone was charging straight at her. The same someone was in her face the very next moment, and her ears rang with the volume of his words.

"Ah -- Prince Alfred?!" She blinked, trying to put on a smile that didn't betray the fact she was just scared for her life. "Um, sure! Let's--let's give it a try!" She took a step back in the name of personal space. For the short amount of time personal space was still an option, anyway.

"The start is over there, I think," she said, pointing behind Alfred. "Should we go get ready?"

Bluebells Wreathed

Among all the places on the monastery campus, the greenhouse was one of her favorites.

Poe was no stranger to flowers. Her pursuit of her own loft goals did not leave her entirely without time for petty hobbies, and among the few that she did have, horticulture was one she took special comfort in. The scent of blooms sets her at ease—there is a reason that the girl cloaks herself in floral perfumes, plucks roses for her room and presses flowers for her books. If she had to justify it to herself (and she does, doesn't she?) flowers are a delicate Good, so quick to shrivel if not cared for, so easily crushed if not protected.

Such a fragile thing a flower is.

The greenhouse she walks through is busier than it usually is, a sense of hectic worry palpable in the air as a pink butterfly of a girl dodges strangers she doesn't know and hardly cares to. Poe wonders what the commotion might be until her attention is caught by a different familiar sight, shoulder-cut dusty rose locks and braids that almost remind her of another girl she knows well.

Lapis, if she recalls. One of recently many that have caught Poe's interest.

"It's almost surreal to see you doing well," Poe comments in that sing-song voice of hers, eschewing announcing herself until she is right behind the other girl. "And in such a pleasant place as this, no less. So you do have hobbies other than getting yourself into trouble, heheh!"

The Lady-of-Mourning. Lapis hadn't heard about it before coming to Garreg Mach, but the story captivated her instantly. It was just so... tragic. The love between a noble and a commoner, frowned upon by outsiders and torn apart in the end. Her cheeks turned rosy at the thought and she could only hope the others in the greenhouse were too occupied to notice.

Even without the little anecdote, it was sad to think that a flower with the chance to bloom only once every few centuries could wilt before going on full display. There were always going to be generations of people who could never hope to see the flower at its peak, and now even in the window where the campus could, it might not come to be.

Plus, the added tale of it ensuring love could flourish, well... Lapis would only go more red-faced if she gave it too much thought.

She knew nothing about the maintenance of the Lady-of-Mourning, but she did love gardening and had experience growing things where they didn't particularly want to grow. On the off chance that her knowledge would be of any use, she lingered in the greenhouse for the time being.

With her attention on the plant (and stuck in her own thoughts), she didn't notice the presence of anyone behind her until a voice rang out.

"AH--!" She jumped, startled, and turned on her heel. "P-Poe? I didn't see you there..." She gave a nervous laugh. "Yes, I love gardening! And plants in general, really. Did you come here to see the flower, too?"

Horses, pegasi, wyverns, kinshi, and now riding wolves and griffons - the monastery’s menagerie keeps on growing, and the stables can barely contain all of them anymore! The Church calls students, Professors and Knights alike to help ensure that all of these animals have proper care. It’s also important to them that everyone knows how to take care of and handle all of these different species, in the name of versatility, broader horizons, and preserving harmony. Perhaps you will take this chance to bond with a new mount you’d never even considered before? [Grants Riding +1]

Shed only recently arrived before a blur of animals speed past her... Freyja stood there momentaryly, blinking in surprise before coming to. She (rather carefully) made her way through the stable. Its not like she wanted to help, its more like... she had no other choice.

So, she simply watched over those who were already working hard, because, in truth, she had not experience with this kind of thing. Freyja has never seen any of these mounts up close before-- shes never had the need too. Freyja didnt want to be in anyones way, but she did feel... very out of place.

Not watcing where the goddess was going, she bumped into someone, quickly looking down in slight annoyance before her features softened, just a little. "Oh, Lapis, Is that you? I should not be surpirsed that you would be here... Ive see how much you like to help out" Freyja states, a small smile "Im sorry I bumped into you- what are you doing?"

No stranger to the stables or helping out those in need, Lapis was one of the first ones to show up that day after pleas for assistance were posted on the bulletin boards. At first light, she rose and started carrying buckets of water and barrels of feed and anything else that needed some rearranging.

The work put her in a good mood, honestly. Not only was it a good work out, but the animals were all so sweet. It was nice seeing so many all in one place -- back home, animals were often few and far between because they were difficult to keep alive. Here, though? They were thriving. And the sight put a smile on her face.

It may have also been a bit distracting, though, as Lapis failed to notice when someone was walking towards her. "Ah--!" she yelped when the two collided. "I'm so sorry, I -- Lady Feyja?" She smiled up at the other. It was good to see her in a... well, a normal place like this.

"I'm helping move everything around!" she explained. "The stables were a bit of mess and really disorganized... but I'm sure there's plenty of room for all the animals if we set things up more efficiently! It'll be easier to feed them, too. For instance, having the herbivores over there and the carnivores over here... feed storage will be much more practical."

She tilted her head. "Did you come by to help, too?"

Whyvern't You Tell Me Sooner

After the winter’s tragedy, the arrival of baby wyverns in the stables is welcomed not just with the usual excitement, but with outright tears of joy. With the traumatic memories still fresh in everyone’s mind, everyone is being extra careful with the babies, and intends to ensure they have the best care possible. He didn’t really want to stop by. He had little idea on what was going on with the wyverns, besides that it was a hushed matter in respect to those who have lost a mount or friend. He might have been interested in them once, but that interest has long since faded into a discomfort. He just meant to peek his head in at the commotion and leave.

But no, instead he was dragged in for some sort of celebration, the center of which was three baby wyverns. One more was in a professor’s hands as they went on about the proper care and handling. So after all that, when he was gently handed a baby wyvern and told very sternly to be careful, what was he to do except listen?

It was heavy even at such a young age. But it was cute, in the way all babies were cute. That didn’t mean he was ready to take care of it, though. Even if it cooed at him and looked at him with the watery eyes that reptiles tended to have, and- best to end that before he actually got attached. He turns to the person next to him, and tries to do what he does best- avoid responsibility.

“Do you… want to hold it?”

Lapis had worked with plenty of different mounts in the past, but horses were the ones she was most confident with. There were a few back in her hometown and she even learned how to ride them there. Overall a good experience. And hey, she really liked animals to begin with! So when she heard about the baby wyverns hatching, she was curious about them.

Certainly much different from horses, there was plenty she didn't know about the creatures. When she made her way to the stables and saw the little ones for herself, she wanted to know everything.

They're so cute...! she thought, eyes sparkling. She was swaying from side to side, looking for a way past the crowd of students to get a closer look, when a voice caught her attention.

"Huh?" she turned to blink at the speaker, then down at the wyvern in his arms. The adoring smile formed back on her face upon sight of it. "Oh -- that -- I would, b-but I've never held one before," she said, waving her hands in front of her. "I don't know the proper technique!" No matter how adorable the little babies were, Lapis would remain responsible. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt one of them, especially after the losses suffered during winter.

"Um -- but is it okay if I pet it...?"

A crowd was gathered in the marketplace, surrounding enthused shouting of some sort. Lapis was on her way to the stables when all the noise caught her attention. She tilted her head a little, tuning in to the boisterous announcements. A contest, maybe? Involving a sword? Whatever it was, it piqued her interest -- and she didn't have the busiest schedule that day, so why not check it out?

Students and faculty alike stood shoulder to shoulder, craning their necks to get a better view. Lapis, thanks to her small stature, was able to weave her way to the front. There was a large stone on a cart with the hilt of a sword sticking out of it.

"Don't tell me you're giving up already?" shouted a man Lapis didn't recognize. The way he dressed suggested he was a merchant. His words antagonized a heavily sweating student with their hands around the sword and a foot against the stone, trying with all their might and then some to free the blade from its entrapment. "Not as strong as we thought, are we?"

The student huffed in frustration, kicking away from the stone. "It's rigged," they seethed. "That's not even a real sword!" Murmurs of doubt erupted from the crowd, rumors of traveling merchant scams swapping between lips.

"Alright, alright!" shouted the merchant. "Let's not let this one person's skipped training sessions get the better of us all, yeah? What we need is more contestants!" He paused to glance around the crowd. "Ah -- you, there, come on up!" Lapis followed the direction of the summons to... wait -- the Divine One?! Her eyes were wide, now, switching from curiosity to surprise. When did he get here...?

She didn't have much time to consider the options, though, because the next thing she knew, the merchant's shouts were directed at her.

"And you, little lady with the pink hair -- get on up here!"

Lapis flexed her fingers, focused on the way they moved. Everything had felt so real, but... Maybe in a sense, it still was. Everyone remembered the same things. They still experienced it all together. Even if none of it took place in the physical world, the images of grieving villagers and decrepit prison cells haunted her dreams. She wondered if they haunted the others, too.

She meant to check up on everyone -- see how they were faring -- and she knew who she wanted to see first. The King from a foreign land she had the fortune of meeting before the whole shipwreck fantasy fiasco. Was he doing alright? They were separated in the end, when she woke up in that cell. Corrin showed up right before the images faded away. In the throws of battle there was no time to talk, to see if he was injured. To find out what happened while she was gone.

Feeling a bit awkward, Lapis stood outside Corrin's living quarters for a few silent moments. She really shouldn't be bothering him like this, but... she was worried. And if there was anything she could do for him, she wanted to know.

So, despite her nerves, she knocked on the door.

He can't look. He can't look as all of his allies die or run away. They're leaving him. They're leaving him. And he can't take that. Don't go, he needs to fight by someone else's side.

Don't leave him behind. He begs, quietly to someone (someones) who cannot hear him anymore. A hand trembles upon a blade that was drenched in blood, blood that also stains Kaumi's hands. It's not his, and it doesn't belong to any of his current allies.

No.

This blood has already been on his hands for so long, and it will remain there, unable to ever be washed away.

Because of the few sins he had been willing to commit to bring about peace in his homeland. He lifts the divine blade, staring back at his reflection in its golden surface.

Sometimes, he does not recognize the man who stares back at him, eyes cold and hardened from the war and strife that surrounded him, broken by the world that he lived in.

He snaps his gaze away, bare feet gently padding against the floor as he turns to face Weiss once again. He points his blade at the woman he had momentarily called a friend, even just mere minutes ago, ruby eyes filled with conviction.

"Weiss. I intend to end this. You... you won't have to suffer anymore. I'm sorry..."

He is not proud of what he's done, and it doesn't feel right. He doesn't want to have to hurt her. He doesn't want to have to be the one who pushes her out of the cycle she had to be trapped in, especially not by force.

He doesn't want to have to be the one to carry that burden.

He can't, not anymore. That's what allies were for after all, to share that pain equally.

None of them should ever have had to suffer alone, and they never should have to again.

With heavy breaths and shaking limbs, Lapis put her focus into standing upright. Her allies were showing up. They could do this.

But the captors had plenty of tricks up their sleeves, it seemed -- the leader of the Black Eagles stepped forward to take her turn on the offense, but her axe glanced off the enemy. Lapis must have been standing too close, because the next thing she knew, she was knocked to the ground and wracked with pain. Her body couldn't be forced back up to standing -- not immediately, anyway. But she wasn't going to give up until she could drag herself to her feet with her blade steadily in hand for another strike.

One of her allies fell, and then another. Lady Freyja, that time. The ally who carried Lapis on her back all the way down the mountain, all the way to safety.

Poe arrived right on time. It seemed to be a talent of hers. As the mending magic washed over Lapis, she heaved a sigh of relief. Still tired, still struggling to hold her ground, but she could stand now.

King Corrin brought down the woman. Lapis felt an odd swell of... power? Motivation? She focused on the remaining target.

Her swings were direct, braced for the recoil of hitting the captor head on. But she was being chipped away at -- recoil, magic, recoil -- until her second blow knocked her backwards, tripping on her own feet, until she collapsed all over again.

It was hard to breath, hard to see, hard to know what was going on. She had to protect them -- she couldn't let anyone else get hurt. But her body refused to move.

Fighting to keep her eyes open at the very least, Lapis drew in rattling breaths.

Hang in there, everyone, she pleaded silently. Just... a little bit longer...

"I'd like to visit your home one day..." the kitsune murmured in awe. The thought of different trees to play under, and she already knew it would be pretty.

Kinu listened with a wagging tail as Lapis spoke about the different trees around her home, but there was a certain bundle of energy within her that she couldn't keep contained. Her paws kneaded the snow beneath her. When Lapis turned to face her, Kinu stared back for a few seconds before quickly reaching out her head to poke the other girl's arm.

"Tag!" she giggled, jumping up and bouncing away playfully for a few steps. "You're it!"

It seemed that the fox girl couldn't stay seated for very long at all.

"Oh--" She didn't know what to say to that at first. Her village didn't exactly have much to offer. Not to mention the fact that she still didn't want to disclose the poor economic status of her hometown to begin with. It was a nice sentiment to hear, but Lapis still felt a little weird about it.

On the other hand, Brodia in general? She would love to show someone around. The capitol would be a nice place to start.

She smiled. "That's -- I'm sure you can see it someday! I'd like to see your home too -- huh?"

The nose-boop on her arm made her blink. This girl had a wellspring of energy, that was for sure. Lapis gave an awkward laugh.

"Tag...? I don't think I have much of a chance against, um, a fox." Especially a fox that large.
