Still Sick
And while most of my muses have returned. Lestat is being a little bitch about it. He can't breathe properly so he's sulking in a corner.
Slowly Getting Better
Breathing is a bit easier. I'm not coughing as badly or bringing as much up when I cough. The pain in my chest is less as well. I have some energy today, just none for writing. I'm hoping to be back at it soon.
Thank you for the patience while I deal with being sick.
❧ rosie nodded, somewhat embarrassed to admit that she had. perhaps it had been more stupid and convoluted for her to purposefully get caught rather than just doing it herself.
she didn't want to drink but she was always weak when it came to blood and now, it was even more obvious. she downed the blood quickly, not having had a proper feeding in days. the humans had kept in her a makeshift jail while they decided what to do with her. she listened to lestat speak as she drank the blood, a look of confusion spreading across her face.
❝ i have no issue feeding from humans. i just do not wish to be a child for all eternity, ❞ she said, withholding the part where she had been left alone after accidentally killing her sire. she didn't quite know how he'd react to that. ❝ why are you even helping me? you don't know me. ❞
"I was once a horrible monster of a person and...it drove away everyone I loved. I want to be better. To do better. In the hopes that maybe my next great love will not try to end me, or feel from me, or kill themselves to be rid of me."
He looked away from her before grabbing up a glass, slitting his wrist, and letting his powerful blood flow into it.
"Now drink this. It'll help heal you further."
if armand was capable of laughing in lestat's presence, perhaps he might have laughed at such a notion; family? armand's never known the likes of such a concept, he's never known lestat to be particularly familiar with him outside of times of great turmoil. the sneer on armand's mouth is palpable. none of this is of any interest to him. the boyish kind of disgust plays out perfectly amongst the petulance his natural youth brings him.
ˊ i'm not sure where you get off talking to my fledgling about the matters of our relationship, lestat. you might be the gossip queen of new orleans, but i certainly am not and the confidences i hold are of interest to only you and i. ˋ
the ticket is delicately laid on the coffee table in front of him. armand taps it twice, and then looks up at lestat with a sarcastic bitterness.
ˊ if louis wants nothing to do with this, neither do i. i trust his judgement implicitly. these boyish whims of boredom will not end well and i think you know it. ˋ
"A concert was never supposed to happen."
He had never intended even for a music video. Nothing more than audio files were meant to be exchanged.
"But then I received a comment on one of my songs and...I'm not doing this for me, Armand. For once in my life I'm doing something for others."
Multiple people had mentioned how this or that song made them feel. How the music had made them step back from a ledge. Had saved their souls or lives.
"I will hide my face. I will hide what I am. But I can not deny those souls who wish for nothing more than my song."
Nicolas had a whole speech prepared. About how if he had wanted to see Lestat, the rockstar hadn't made it hard to find him. How it would be best for them both to pretend Nicolas had died in a fire back in 1790. Lestat's first words disarmed him. He had imagined this meeting a thousand ways. Mostly he expected a fight, for Lestat to be hurt that Nicolas had hidden from him. And apology hadn't been out of the question. But Lestat actually offering to leave him alone hadn't been within his predictions. He took the card, considering it. He didn't have a phone or an email but could probably arrange both, if he chose...
Then Lestat mentioned money, and Nicolas ambivalent facial expression turned into a dark scowl. Maybe Lestat hadn't learned any lessons after all. "So the little Lord still likes throwing about the coin of the realm" he sneered in the now old-fashioned French of their youth. "I am going to state this very plainly, Lestat. If you try to give me money, or buy me gifts, I will never speak to you again. You try to buy me a place to live, I'm burning it down, do you understand me?" he asked.
"Where on earth did you get the idea that I ever cared for money? My family had more than yours, growing up. If I wanted to be rich, I'd have never come with you to play rat-trap theaters in Paris. And then you inherited all of Magnus' fortune and threw it around, buying the theater, showering everyone with gifts, trying to buy my affection when all I wanted was the truth! That was the worst insult of it, that you did not know me well enough to think I would care about the fineness of the china when I knew you were hiding things from me."
"I will not buy you anything you do not want. I was more worried about legal identities than anything. This day in age you need papers that are far more difficult to forge. I have no idea your current financial situation and...I just want to know that you are doing well."
He looked down at his own hands, his glass like finger nails.
"What do you want to know? I've been...making amends. I've been...working on myself and on my relationships with others."
He winced.
"I'm seeing another of our kind who is a licensed therapist. I wish to have a lover. Someone who will be by myside and clearly I have failed that in all prior courting's; so I am...seeking to be better. If I could take back the past I would but that is impossible even for one such as myself so all I can do is try for a better tomorrow."
He cleared his throat.
"So ask anything you have to ask. Say anything you have to say. Let us have this much needed closure on both of our parts and then decide what to do next."
the explanation as to why he was with daniel is sorely needed. the sharp look gets sharper when he says he's seen him and it's only when he's given the explanation does the vampire reach for the ticket; already sure that it'll most likely gather dust on his shelf, a token of the gesture he wasn't sure how to reciprocate quite yet.
ˊ of course you won't, lestat. you're our prince now, you certainly wouldn't want to break any of the old laws now. what would marius say? ˋ armand can recognize that he's being given a white flag when he sees one. but when has he ever come out of an interaction with lestat unscathed and fuller? never.
ˊ did louis put you up to this? ˋ
"Louis is firmly against me doing this. The band, the concert, all of it. But I'm bored. Terribly so. And good or bad, you are my family, Armand."
He moved to sit across from the other vampire.
"I want you to be there. Daniel thinks you need to get out more."
Daniel had seemed excited when he found out his new music obsession was actually Lestat's new band.
"He really wants to go with you. And this time, there is no Akasha to ruin things."
Was he suicidal? He wouldn't walk out into the sun or light himself on fire. But publishing a book was a risk to his life; Armand had made that clear. Let them come, let them try to find him.
"The mortals won't believe it. They'll think it's a new type of fiction." It wasn't about the mortals, though. "I did it for myself. I met him years ago, but the story I told him was a lie. I wanted the truth." With a nod, he followed Lestat inside the house. "It's part of why I'm here."
"And why are you here?"
He was weary. Did Louis want him to tell his own story to the journalist? Did he want to? Perhaps he would put his own words to paper instead of having someone else write it for him.
"I fear for you, Louis. You are probably the best of us, you know."
the expectation that emanated from lestat was almost unbearable at times. the performance did not stop when louis fled the room and for that, and for the ingenuine way he saunters in the room as if he were trying not to disturb him, only to disturb him, armand becomes annoyed quite quickly. it's only really when lestat finds his bravado to approach him does the little vampire lift his head, staring up at the card through half-lidded eyes.
the last time he went to lestat's concert, the world had nearly ended. it's clear that he isn't keen on returning.
ˊ delightful, are you taking more ideas from me? i did so enjoy the children of darkness video. ˋ he debates on taking the card. at the last second he looks up at lestat and says, ˊ sign it and i'll think about going. i'll need another. daniel is coming with me. ˋ
Pulling a pen from seemingly nowhere, he quickly signed it.
"Daniel already has his. I gave him his first as I came upon him first. And the music is quite different than what it was before. I do not go under 'The Vampire Lestat' but under the band name of 'Dreamscapes'. Our music is quite lovely."
He smiled softly at Armand before frowning.
"I won't let anyone know I'm a vampire, and I wear a mask on stage."
❧ rosie had purposefully let herself be caught by some humans while feeding off of some man. she hadn't wanted to throw herself into the sun. it felt wrong if she did it but if she was caught by some humans and killed for killing one of them, that wasn't her fault. she wouldn't be the one to do it that way.
she hadn't been expecting to be saved. she hadn't wanted to. she screeched out of a mix of surprise and pain when the coat was thrown over her, the feeling of the fabric against the burns that were exposed. she gripped onto the man instinctively, briefly reminded of when she was a child and her father would carry her everywhere however those days were long gone.
❝ i—i did, ❞ she cut herself off, a very clear expression of pain on her burnt face. she hadn't expected talking to hurt so much. ❝ i let th—them catch me, ❞ she choked out, wondering what exactly would happy to her now.
"You let them catch you?"
Inside Lestat's home, and in the hidden bedroom, he lay her on his bed and opened a fridge filled with emergency bagged blood. He brought it to her now, and slipped the 'straw' past her lips so that she could drink and heal.
"Darling, I know that times might be dark and hard. Especially if you are alone. But fear now. I shall help bring the light back to your world if you so desire it. One need not feed on humans directly in this age if that is what makes you long for death. Please. Drink and heal. And if in a year you still wish for death, then I will deal it myself."
@rockstar-vampire
Maenoles was a hole-in-the-wall bar among hole-in-the-wall bars. With his eternally 21-year-old face, Nicolas fit right in with the clientelle of 10% local college students, 90% dropout bohemians on acid. The stage for live music was barely more than a pallet, and could fit perhaps one person with a big instrument, or three vocalists if they didn't mind being very intimate. The pay was bad, the tips were generous but matched the wallets of the clientele. Nicolas didn't care. He didn't come here for money, he came to play, and because any victim he chose was likely to be drunk or high.
He was playing now, bending and swaying with the music as he always did. With the violin at his throat, he became merely a vessel for the music as it poured out of him, filling the tiny space of the bar and spilling out onto the street outside. He was swept along the highs and lows of the notes, blind to the world. And when the piece finally came to a close, and he stilled, and opened his eyes, the first face he saw was Lestat's.
Nicolas froze. It really was Lestat, and not a blond lookalike. Had Lestat been looking for him? Or was this one of God's cruel jokes, an impossible coincidence? Nicolas was tempted to flee- to leave all his things and run out the back door at supernatural speed. But that wouldn't stop Lestat from catching up, if he chose to pursue. Nicolas kept his face blank, neutral. He put his violin away in it's case as if nothing had happened. He signaled the bartender and made his way to a booth in the far corner, sitting, waiting to see if his maker would join him.
Lestat sat down across from Nicolas.
There had been rumors of a violinist vampire going around. One whose skill was unparalleled. Lestat, naturally, had needed to see this for himself. Was there a chance? However small, that this was Nicolas? Had the fire been a lie?
Lestat had changed since last they met. He saw that he was overbearing. He saw that he smothered those he loved. He broke their hearts and stomped on them frequently. Best to spend a few years, maybe a few months...and then separate for a time. He had yet to find anyone who could stand him for more than a few decades at a time.
Taking an unneeded breath and letting it out slowly, he looked into his former best friend's eyes.
"I was horrible to you. When I heard about a vampire violinist I...hoped. Now that I know it is you...I am happy that you are alive. I will not...force my presence upon you. I will give my contact details and hope that you will perhaps visit from time to time. Check in at the very least so I know how you are doing or if you need anything. But I will not force you into contact."
He pulled out a black business card. His name. His email. His mobile phone number.
"How have you been? Do you need money?"
I'm Not a Hero
@bcrntalive
Lestat is not a hero.
Sure, he may have fancied himself one at times, but the fact of the matter was that he was no hero. However, he had recently been gifted the ability to walk in the sunlight, and so many vampires were unable to withstand it's rays.
Which he found now, in a girl burning.
He threw his large coat over her, and picked her up into his arms, taking to using his speed to get them to his nearby home and out of the light of the sun.
"Who did this to you? Or are you simply wishing to end it?"
@tomedesvampires
Lestat frowned as he looked upon Armand. The other vampire was a thorn in his side at times. Theirs was a love and hate relationship. Often they couldn't stand to be around one another for extended periods of time.
Standing before Armand now, he held out a paper ticket on good card stock.
"I'm going to be playing a concert. I am...offering you a VIP back stage pass. There is no reason...should you decide to attend...that you should be sitting among he crowd."

This was the most Louis had gotten to hear about Lestat's past. He knew how Lestat was made and he knew that he'd made Nicolas, but that was it. Claudia was right, all those years ago- though it seemed Nicki's suicide was more Armand's fault than Lestat's.
"I have too. Done a lot of reflecting. We weren't good for each other then. Never should have brought her into it." Louis couldn't say he regretted Claudia. He hated that he took her chance at a life away, but there was a selfish part of him that didn't.
"It's a long story. Took a mortal journalist calling me out on all of the lies I told myself to make me realize I need to fix things. I always knew, but..." a pause. "I never acted on it. Armand's still in Dubai. At least, he was when I left. He's got an interest in that journalist that's another long story."
"A journalist? Are you suicidal Louis!? If other vampires were to discover that you had a story written about you; they would come after you."
That was not something that he wanted for Louis. And yet, was he not working on his own extravagant suicide? As the lead singer in a rock band? As 'The Vampire Lestat'?
"What a pair we truly are. We both need to add flair for our ends."
He slowly rubbed over his own face as if weary of life. Maybe he was.
"Why don't we go inside. I can...tell you everything."
