“That’s right, and we’re proud to be. I am Plum Pom. These are my little sisters, Ritzy Raspberry, Vain Virtuoso, Dim, and Darling.”
Plum spoke her words with a sense of pride, smiling at the new Ruby genuinely. It was true, The Roundhouse were no ordinary Rubies. They were anything but common disposable soldiers Homeworld could throw around. They were free, no one could take that from them.
“We have been here since the Rebellion… When Homeworld was mass producing soldiers of all kinds to assist with the fight against The Crystal Gems. They sent us here, with a sum of several other Ruby teams… But we were ambushed by the Crystal Gems. We managed to escape, and found ourselves on a beach miles from that point. Ever since then, we stayed here… And after thousands of years, this is what we’ve become.”
A monotoned Ruby finished her sentence with a hint of emotion, which she only truly showed on rare occasions,
“We have no clue what became of the rest. We supposed it was for the best we didn’t… And oh yes, I am Ritzy Raspberry.”
“The rebellion, huh?”
Ruby repeated the other inaudibly while at the same time thinking back, way way back to the time of the Rebellion. She had met many gems in combat then who were willing and able to do the Diamonds’ dirty work, she had come against other Rubies a few times now and again, but it was usually the stronger soldiers Homeworld sent to hunt them down. Thinking back now, she had never made friends with other Rubies very easily. Most Rubies were hailed as disposable soldiers, and they often acted accordingly with reckless, one-tracked minds. During the war itself, Garnet had been forced to destroy hundreds, if not thousands of the Ruby warriors that Homeworld sent to destroy them. Even when they could capture them, the Rubies from Homeworld were so bent on their mission they couldn’t be convinced to think otherwise. These gems were often destroyed or left bubbled in the temple.
“Most of the Rubies from the Rebellion were destroyed or fled and went back to Homeworld. There was no way to keep track of exactly how many had fallen back then.”
Even though she had no regrets about saving herself, saving Sapphire, and saving this planet, it still pained her to think of all the gems that lost their lives fighting a war they couldn’t have understood anything about.
“It’s not exactly something I like to talk about. I saw many gems go down myself, it’s not something I think I’ll ever forget.”
