A Thanksgiving in the Wilson-Howlett Household
Summaryish: Logan is struggling to adjust to his new familial roles amongst some of the X-Men, Wade schedules a dinner to try and help him.
a/n: Boy do I have notes for you before you read this. Firstly I must address the pressing question: What universe is this? Itâs mainly meant to be the mcu but the Kitty and Jubilee Iâm using are definitely more comic Kitty and â97 Jubilee. I just feel their representations in the mcu arenât that great. Rogue is mostly supposed to be movie Rogue but I gave her an ounce of the southern accent. And clearly this Logan is the Logan from Deadpool & Wolverine, this is supposed to take place after that movie. ALSO I know that in the comics Kitty still technically has a dad and family and stuff but we see her interact with Wolverine as a familial figure way more than her actual family. ALSO ALSO I know we donât really have clear details on Yukio and Ellieâs family lives so Iâm basically just assuming they donât really have any. ALSO ALSO ALSO Ellie is Megasonic Teenage Warhead, they donât really say it in the movies Iâm pretty sure but yeah her canon real name is Ellie if you werenât aware, just didnât want to confuse anyone lol. Ok anyways bye
After the ever so irritating Wade Wilson had taken Logan to a different universe heâd been forced to adapt to several new responsibilities.
Most he was able to take in stride, settling into a life where he could be a hero again, rather than hated by all. He even began to get used to Wade-shocking, he knew.Â
But there was one change he found perhaps too intense, unable to grapple with the gravity of what had been forced upon him.
Being a father.
Funnily enough it wasnât even his âbiologicalâ daughter that caused the stress. They came to a sort of strange agreement on their relationship. Theyâd talk sometimes, but mostly interacted with a comfortable silence, understanding each other.
His other three âdaughtersâ were completely different.Â
Quickly after joining the X-Men he had been introduced to the three lonely, troubled girls that the former Wolverine had gotten through their tough transitions into mutant life, forming close, protective bonds with each one.
To some degree all three girls considered the old Wolverine their father, and suddenly here was another chance to regain that fatherly figure they had lost so many times in their lives.
They instantly pounced on the chance.
He supposed they also saw it as some strange way to pay back the deceased man. Now it was their turn to help him through the transition to being an X-Men.
Logan found it completely overwhelming.Â
Of course Wade found it completely endearing that Logan had these three adoptive daughters, practically having two of his own. So when Wade proposed a big thanksgiving dinner with all five of the mutant girls Logan knew there was no way he could say no. He didnât know if it would break Wade or the three girlâs hearts more.
So on that fateful fourth Thursday, Logan found himself opening the door to Wadeâs crappy apartment, which had just been assaulted with the sound of several teen to twenties girls knocking at once.
The colorful ensemble were all standing on Wadeâs doorstep in various levels of dressy clothes, each holding a dish.
The two eldest, Anna Marie and Kitty were properly dressed for the holiday in nice dresses, and each carrying a quite presentable casserole. Jubilee and Ellie had completely thrown dress code out the window, each in their usual forms of rebellious clothing. Jubilee was toting a, slightly dented, can of cranberry jelly, and Ellie had shown up with nothing but an already open box of Ritz crackers that she was already eating out of. Yukio sat in a nice middle ground of the girls, she was casually dressed in decent clothes and had a good-sized pan of mashed potatoes.
Logan awkwardly welcomed the gaggle of girls, looking at Wade in discomfort and distress, not knowing how to handle all five at once.
Of course Wade didnât notice Loganâs panicked expression, too swept up in complimenting each of the girlsâ dresses and sampling every dish (even the crackers).
Logan found it strange how easily the usually crude and perverted man could switch to complete dad mode, and even stranger how he found it so impossible within himself to conjure up the same fatherly instincts.
Whenever he looked at the group of girls he felt as if he was on the battlefield, one wrong move and theyâd tear him apart. In the end he knew it was truly his fear of not living up to their original Logan, knowing he could never replace that original bond, that he could destroy these girlsâ last chance at having a dad.Â
Wade snapped him out of his contemplative trance.
âCome sit down Wolvie!â he called from the table, where everyone else was already nestled.
Logan awkwardly took the last open seat, between Anna and Kitty. He gave each of them an uncertain smile, which they responded to with wonderfully genuine smiles.
Wade left to retrieve the final dish, the turkey, and every pair of eyes at the table settled on Logan, as if they were waiting for him to start the conversation.
âSo, um, girls,â he began horribly, âhow isâŠwearing dresses?â he ended even worse.
Ellie gave him a very pronounced eye roll, and Anna gave him a sympathetic smile. She gently placed her gloved hand on his and lowered her tone as the rest of the table instantly exploded in chaotic conversation.
âAre you doing alright?â she asked him gently, âI know this is all a lot for you.â
He sighed, giving the table a once over.Â
âI just, never planned on any of this being my life. Thought I was gonna drink myself to death in some shitty den. And now Iâm surrounded by allâŠof this,â he gestured to the chaos, which only got louder and more chaotic as Wade brought in the turkey.
âThatâs how I felt when you,â Rogue stopped herself, taking a moment to collect her words, âwhen the other Logan brought me to the mansion. Ya know he went through a lota what youâre going through right now, we arrived at the same time. I helped him with his adjustment just as much as he helped me,â she began to reminisce, twisting one of her gloves in her lap.
âI know itâs a lot to take in all at once,â she continued, âyer sorta forced into a giant family and ya gotta adjust fast from being on your own to never being alone again,â she laughed a bit, mostly to herself, âbut it's better than being alone,â her eyes landed on Jubilee, glittering as she watched her friend toss mashed potatoes at Ellie, âreally, youâll never believe that youâd ever been alone before.â
Logan smiled, putting a reassuring hand on her shoulder, careful to avoid touching any skin. Anna gave him a friendly smile before joining in on some sort of conversation in which the girls were trying to pressure Wade into brawling with Ellie.Â
Logan settled back in his chair, closing his eyes and listening to the shouting and laughing, and what may have been Ellie punching Wade in the face.
Despite himself he grinned, knowing that it was too late, he was never abandoning this stupid little family.
