Androgyny For The Day: Looking for something to watch tonight as you socially distance? "The Little Richard Story," is the tale of how feline beauty Richard Wayne Penniman created a musical identity for himself so powerful and unique that he broke through the color barrier in the 1950s to thrill people with songs like "Tutti Frutti." Salute to the King of the Androgenes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYaukthX1w8
Androgyny For The Day: The NYTimes celebrates "butch" culture as a pillar of queer identity, but also of renegade identity. Butch culture defies the primacy of the male gaze, reversing gender expectations about presentation in our daily lives. The article includes interviews with a wide range of queer women who take gender tropes, styles and conventions and re-arrange them to their satisfaction. (partial of photo Collier Schorr. Androgyny for The Day: Nicola Formichetti is the Italian creative director who helped get Diesel brand off the ground, and then wrote songs with Lady Gaga. One of the best things about anyogynous style is how it can strip away pretense to see the bright passion burning within. Oh yez....
Moved! Four days from hell, but thanks to Jose and Juniors Movers and Jen Frahm, and me humping 65 trips up 3 flights of stairs, I’m in a great place to hunker down, a block from lake Bde Make Ska in the heart of Minneapolis. #grateful. #dead (at Minneapolis, Minnesota) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-ne_g_HZAN/?igshid=ybp8xioo7z43
Steak dinner for last night in my apartment. Moving to something from the 20s—the 1920s. I’ll be glad to finally be able to shelter “in place” tomorrow night and spend the weekend unpacking and arranging. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-gHVIUn2z6/?igshid=17q292c7ohymq
One of the best things about the shelter in place order is that I’m packing up for my move a little each day. It allows me to be sharper about what I really need to keep, or I can give away. And 6-7 boxes a day, plus solo trips to storage locker is just right amount of mindless work to keep the brain busy. Find your blessing where you can. #peace (at Uptown, Minneapolis) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VfUduH975/?igshid=cacck8hr905f
Listening to Irish Times news podcast while packing for my move this week. At least the pandemic news sounds a bit more lyrical with an Irish accent. (at Uptown, Minneapolis) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VAOK-HDJQ/?igshid=x7lsvx04uvtn
Donating blood. If you can do it, it’ll allow you to step up to the front lines fighting Coronavirus for a day. #covid_19 (at American Red Cross) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-PjZgVHfcx/?igshid=19wg533spebu8
Androgyny for The Day: Rae Spoon is a Canadian roots folk artist who is gender non-confirming. Their work has been so inspirational a short film of their hit, "I'll Be A Ghost For You," was commissioned by the Canadian Arts Board: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op4ywkS9MUU Brilliant work, strong gorgeous artist. Androgyny For The Day: Once a year I allow myself to run yet another picture of Tilda Swinton, the most exquisite androgynous human being on God's Earth. Her confident, brilliant look is topped by her wild flop of hair, and her pretty white eyelashes. The only androgyne David Bowie would have traded places with, I think. Deep sigh.
Androgyny For The Day: Hélöise Letissier is a French singer-songwriter who exploded onto the music scene as Christine And The Queens in 2015. Now five years later she is re-emerging as "Chris" more stripped down, muscular rock and roll version of Christine. Either way, in style and in music she plays with gender identity and human longing. Androgyny For The Day: The Queen Of Hearts, K.D. Lang has been serving up great taste in music for 30 years, still wandering thoughtfully around gender in mysteriously beautiful ways. Said her pal Maddona, describing Lang for The Advocate as “gorgeous, by the way.” In fact, Madonna, who was (then) recently divorced from actor Sean Penn, added: “She looks like Sean. I met her, and I thought, Oh my God, she’s the female version of Sean. I could fall in love with her.” Um yeah, okay, maybe... (Photo: The Telegraph)
Androgyny For The Day: The model's name is Corygan, and he's got me wondering how I would break through his icy reserve. Maybe I could crack him by running my hands all over with soap in a hot shower. (photo: Angel Bena)
