I’m now looking at Sportswear for my garment, so I began to look at the French Sports brand Lacoste’s Summer 15 New York collection with thier techno fabric’s, geometric shapes and angular lines.
Another selection of mannequin work created from the shapes pulled from our drawings.
After completing our drawings we pulled shapes from them and chose our favourite. We then drew out the chosen shapes on brown paper and played with the shapes on the stand. Here is some of my stand work from one of my shapes.
New Project
So over Easter we were given a new research project called “who am I?” For this project I looked at all aspects of my life, from the movies and tv programs I watched, the music I listened to, the books I read to the meaning of my name. I looked at where I had come from, my star sign, the year I was born in, my childhood memories and my education so far. One of the other aspects I was looking at was the sports I played. I have played G.A.A. since I was part of the under 6 team, both camogie and football for my local team Lacken Ladies.
Over the last couple of years I have mostly played football with Lacken and have won many titles including an under 16 League, a minor championship, 1 junior championship, 4 senior leagues and 4 senior championships. I also won the young player of the year 2012 so it was from this I decided to focus on the medals and trophy's I had won over the years, along with the Lacken Club crest.
After I had completed my research and drawings of my sources,we were given a new project continuing on from our research. We now have to explore the concept we have developed from our research through the exploration of shape/silhouette/spec in relation to the body and develop an upper body garment such as a top, dress or coat.
Textile Designer Lucy Simpson creates amazing textures from silicone in her materials-led process.
Fashion’s most celebrated contrarian has attracted a global cult following for her spirited belief in unadulterated creation. Another designer who I am looking at is Rei Kawakubo founder of "Commes des Garcons" Here is an article about her beginnings of the inspirational label and how she according to the article "followed the beat of her own drum" which is evident in her designs.
Another designer which I am looking at is Masion Martin Margiela whose Couture, Paris, AW2014 Collection has many elements which I am interested in. For example the almost hidden boning which the models wear across their busts could fit in well with my project. I also love the patchwork of the geometric shapes and the combination of the found objects giving a techno feel to the collection.
One of the designer's I was looking at was Gareth Pugh. His use of lines which remind me of prison bars scream confinement. We can see the influence of architecture here as it looks like the models are in fact high-rise buildings.
My project is largely inspired by architecture and geometry, while researching I came across this articles which shows how designers were also inspired by architecture in Spring/Summer 2012.

More stand work
More images from my stand work.
Ok so I spent the morning working on the stand with a plain shirt. The aim was to take and shirt and manipulate it around the body to see how it fell. We were asked to draw the mannequin from life but seeing as I am bit behind I only had time for a couple of quick sketches. We also had to document the process from all sides and here are some of my chosen images.
When in London we visited Shepherds Bush markets and fabric stores. Here are some of the materials which we saw which I think fit in perfect for my project. I particularly like the black triangle details.
Looking for references for my work and I thought these "cages" that the models wear on their head at the Alexander Mc Queen AW13 show were perfect. The triangular shape the metal-like structure fit in with my work so far.
One final look at the Chanel, Haute Couture, AW14, Paris collection. I found the use of encrusted beads interesting as they gave the garments a techno/mechanical feel, combined with the girly silhouettes of the garments.
