Jackson Haley The New Colossus Letterpress on Paper 3.10.17

I recently started a project about immigration in America, in retaliation to the policies being but in place by the Trump administration. The idea was to single out the ending of Emma Lazarus’s poem The New Colossus, which is inscribed in the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, print it at a large scale, and place it in public, in a space that makes sense for the piece. In this instance, it’s the beach, to mimic the harbors that brought so many people into this country. The 8 foot tall installation is temporary, but the piece lives on in these photos.
