Never going to forget this one time I was talking to this guy about how women in Italian Renaissance Italy weren’t even supposed to touch their own bare skin because it was seen as impure. They were almost never let outside their own homes and were beaten or killed if they managed to have an affair or were even suspected of it. His response was to point out a part of the article I sent that said life was harder for poor men than rich men and say “well men had it bad too”. And then it hit me - ohhh you’re never going to get it huh. Like. These men will never, ever get it.
