I have removed the x's that were across the image.
i really really want to start collecting OTMAA postcards like i've seen people do here on Tumblr, but I have no clue where to start. Can You help? Thanks. Also, I love love love your blog.
Thanks so much! :)
I buy almost all of my stuff from eBay and Delcampe.net. So I would recommend creating accounts with them as a first step. I don't know where you are located but eBay is pretty international and Delcampe is a European-based (Belgium, maybe?) company. There are some limits with Delcampe for folks in the USA having to do with sale taxes. I'm able to use it because my state doesn't have them, but a friend of mine in another state couldn't. So bear that in mind! But even if you just do eBay that's fine. Most of my stuff is from eBay.
There are also other online postcard shops, most of the ones I buy from are based in Germany, but really, if you're just starting out, eBay is enough.
If you want to build a collection on a budget, I'd recommend looking for the French, British and German versions of OTMAA cards rather than the Russian ones. There are more of them and they tend to be less expensive. Some good search terms to use on eBay are "royalty russia" or "duchess russia" and then narrow it by collectibles - postcards. Consider searching alternate versions/spellings of names: Tatiana/Tatyana/Tatijana Maria/Marie/Mary/Marija Alexei/Alexis/Alexey/Aleksey, etc
Sometimes sellers don't really know what they have and list things wrong. One of my best hauls was "Russian imperial prince and princesses" which ended up being 8 OTMAA cards and 1 random unrelated card. But the listing didn't use any of their names. The 1901 French series (with baby Anastasia), 1910 formals, and 1913 family shots are generally plentiful and pretty easy to find for good prices. 1914 formals can be hit or miss; British ones are fairly easy to come by, Russian ones are harder (and more expensive).
Good luck! :)
I knew you through the daze of the blades of the grass in summer...
