this clip is cracking me up so badly bc IF ONLY the tom from the novels could be arrested, he deserves it so much, but also sid thinks tom is this upset over losing a nickel

because i love the show and think it’s cute, but also think the characterization and a lot of other elements from the og novels are (like i expected it to be) sugarcoated, i have to add:

tom accidentally becomes an accomplice to breaking muff out of jail so that he can rob a saloon for joe. joe successfully convinces tom that he would get in trouble for telling the sheriff about what he did because “he helped.” so the whole time tom is having this inner turmoil of “do i turn myself and joe in 😔😔😔 or stay an accomplice”

and all i can think is that book canon tom would NEVERRR. tom would see through joe pretty immediately i think. and to add to that, he’d think of ways to frame joe and muff for doing smth worse than they actually did. blackmail.

in the episode huck also tells tom, to comfort him, when tom confides in him, “if WE stay quiet nothing is gonna happen to US!! :)” just. willingly wrapping him up in tom’s bullshit for no reason. volunteering himself to the absurdity. book canon tom would come running to huck like “PACK YOUR THINGS BUDDY WE’RE RUNNIN FROM THE LAW!!!!!” huck would be like “????? what why what’s happening WHAT DID YOU DO” “nothing important but WE gotta scram before the sheriff catches up cmon pal comrades 4 life” just for huck to find out that tom already got the whole situation taken care of before they left he just wanted to larp for the funsies
