About Last Night...|Prologue|Romy

So the first thing that Romy saw after suddenly blacking out was a - familiar? - face gently shaking her awake. She groaned. Mostly out of embarrassment. Donât say she got black out drunk and passed out at the biggest and most prestigious collection of superheroes in the country, let alone the city. But, she could immediately tell that she wasnât in her suit which was both comforting and alarming at once, but the face looming over her didnât really have the expression of, âhaha, I just uncovered your secret identity, I got you nowâ. A small silver lining.
Frankly Romy had spent most of her night by that bar, her comfort zone, bothering the poor bartender that had been on duty with her advice and complicated requests. She could be forgiven for having a hard time working out how much of her splitting headache was thanks to the drinks, and how much thanks to⊠Well. Whatever this was.
Romy was just staring back at the other person for a long while, eyes sort of glazed over and far away as she pondered her life, her choices, before suddenly snapping back into it.
âGggh- Youâre-!!!â
Wait, who was he? She couldnât place him.
ââŠTch. Yeah, âm fine. Donât worry âbout me, kid.â Definitely was the same age as her. Or close enough. Romy glanced around, trying to take in the scene and rather quickly coming to the conclusion that this was some fucking hostage situation they were all stuck in. Great. âWhatâs all this? Gh, wait- Whatâre you? I mean, whoâre you?â
For the first few moments of consciousness, his familiar stranger didnât seem all that responsive. Understandably so, anyone who had only just been woken up would likely have a similar reaction, coming to and trying to place things, and he waited patiently, bracing himself for whatever was to come next. To tell the truth, he was still not in that much of a hurry to figure out their relationship status. In his experience it could get physically painful. Heâd gotten more than his fair share of slaps if you asked him.
Thus, his back straightened and his shoulders tensed automatically when the first words out of her mouth were a somewhat displeased sounding acknowledgement of his familiarity to her. He was. He was what. That waiter at the place her parents took her to sometimes? The guy she ran into at the grocery store now and then? That one jerk who never called back after all sheâd done for him (assumedly)? For the love of god, please donât let it be the last one.
But he never found out, after another short moment of staring that felt like so much longer (probably partly because he was holding his breath through it) she changed the subject, and after all the waiting and fretting heâd done, he was This Close to grabbing her shoulders and hissing that no one CARED if she was fine, how did they know each other?? He did not, of course, and the only sign of his tension remained his stiffly frozen smile and the tension he was trying to get rid of now that he noticed it was there while she looked around their surroundings, probably drawing all the same conclusions he and the others heâd talked to had. There wasnât much more to it than met the eye, so far at least.
Things took a turn when she returned her attention to him though. Just what did she mean, who was he? Didnât she KNOW? Didnât she know EITHER?? Sheâd sounded like she knew him just a minute ago!
Suga, not sure whether to feel relieved or almost insulted by the realization that she, apparently, did not remember him (but leaning towards insulted) had no real choice but to act like nothing was wrong at all, and just answer her questions instead of ask new ones to someone who had, after all, just come to.
âOh, sorry, I shouldâve introduced myself: Iâm Suga, and, uh, Iâm⊠a waiter?â
Not sure what she wanted to hear when she asked what he was. Telling her he was âhumanâ would just sound suspicious to anyone in this situation, right? âŠ.Maybe just him. At least he didnât have a hard time faking the slight confusion.
âNo one really knows whatâs going on, I thinkâŠ.â
Sad, but true.
âWe all just woke up here, nothingâs really happened this far.â
No demands, no rescue attempts, not even signs that anyone but them was still alive. At this point he was starting to really wonder if anyone was.
She just lay there, head flat against the ground as she listened to him reply, only nodding a bit to show that she was listening. Hands went to her pockets - damn, no smokes. It was a bad habit though, so maybe that was for the best. Still... Just a couple of young adults all gathered. How inconspicious. There must be something more too this.
"...Huh. Spooky, innit?" Romy replied to Suga's explanation, shooting him a crooked and kind of tired smile, before running a hand back through her hair and momentarily pushing her fringe back.
"Ugh, jeez. My head's really poundin'... But, I was actually drinking, so there's that, huh? Romy." She started, introducing herself with a hand held out for him to shake while still lying back on the ground. "Romy Gostisbehere. I work at the Vortex- I reckon I've seen you there, right? Your face is a lil' familiar."
First thing to do in an awful, potential kidnapping situation was to socialize. Well, they'd have a better shot at getting out of this if they could find some way to work together.
