You know the meme where you go "the name of [noun with a diminutive] implies the existence of [a hypothetical HUGE form of same thing, but without the diminutive]" like "existence of dorito implies the existence of THE DORO" and it's a huge-ass corn chip the size of a wheel of cheese?

Well, in finnish, the word for moth is "yökkönen", from "yö" (night), the suffix "-kko/kkö" which has many purposes but one of them is to change any word into "person involved with doing something with the root word", and the dininutive "-nen". So the name of moth is "little night creature".

But coming back to the diminutive meme, the existence of yökkönen would imply the existence of yökkö, the big (or at least medium-sized, or non-small) night creature. Through a happenstance completely unrelated to moths or other insects, "yökkö" is the finnish vernacular word for a night shift nurse.

#what a fun ride this was #the word for squirrel in German is Eichhörnchen and -chen is also often a diminutive suffix #and that would imply an Eichhorn. huge mutation squirrel #eich is like part of the word for oak tree #and Hörnchen is like a Croissant shape #but all these types of animals are called something-hörnchen #And then we also have Erdmännchen #which is like little guy in the earth #from Mann (man) -> diminutive Männchen #and it’s just a meerkat lmao #which also looking at that word has the German word for sea in it #and also half the German word for cat #I love language!!! as much as i love the aftg x heated rivalry crossovers i still find it incredibly funny thinking about the monsters and hollanov complaining about their retrospective sports leagues like. shane being like “ugh our commissioner is a bigot” or smth and neil’s like “our games are cover ups for the yakuza and i have to play in order not to be old yeller’d.” like how do you move on from there.

The thing about radical kindness (or any kindness, for that matter) is that there are going to be times when someone or something makes you regret it. There are going to be times when you show someone empathy and grace that they don't "deserve". There are going to be times when someone takes that kindness and uses it against you. The world doesn't magically transform into a perfect place when you decide to choose kindness and people will take advantage of it. People will continue to be shitty.

But the thing is...that's not a flaw of kindness. That's not a you problem. That's a them problem. People who are happy with themselves and their lives don't go out of their way to misuse someone's kindness or grace. The "normal" response to kindness or empathy is not to find a way to exploit it. People who are happy with themselves don't look for ways to hurt people for no reason. Kindness will never be the problem. No matter what some shitty person decides to do with it. It should go without saying not to be a doormat, yes. Don't allow people to treat you badly just for the sake of being kind. But also don't let shitty people make you bitter because of how they treated you when you were kind.

I was already a baby teen when born this way came out but god !!! I wish I had been around the culture at that time. what a song what a feeling!!!!

Honestly making new friends in my late 20s early 30s has in some ways been indistinguishable from dating except the courtship period is not romantic or sexual. I think people need to revisit the art of flirting in a friend way…like presenting your best self to a person and genuinely glowing when they return the gesture. And letting people influence and change you and getting excited when you have a chance to talk to them. That’s what makes getting to know someone fun in the first place…everyone in those advice threads about how to befriend people is basically describing how to have Coworkers not friends. “Go to a bar and hang out and start a conversation” you can do this but you have to follow up the first encounter with putting your best foot forward instead of just listlessly hoping for the social approval of the other party!!!!
