Holy shit dude.
Amazing but isn’t this car wasted?
Not really. It’s probably one of a small handful of AE86 corollas in “New” condition. Without something like this we could never really see what an AE86 looked like brand new. We’d have no scope for their appeal 30 years ago. It’s probably the only zenki Levin coupe in this condition in the whole world. There’s literally hundreds of thousands of these cars out on the road; letting this one sit, tenderly cared for by its keeper, is preserving an important part of car culture that even Toyota themselves has not preserved with such diligence.
Yeah man I see what you’re saying and I agree. Always amazing to see a car that’s been preserved, it’s like when archaeologists find some super preserved artefact and they all go crazy and seal it in a little preservation box. I found an AW11 that was perfect showroom condition with just 6,000 miles on the clock when I was looking for my car. Was mesmerised by its preserved majesty.
At the same time there’s a part of me that feels sorry that this car has literally done nothing. You’re right about the hundreds of thousands of these things that have been driven. All those hundreds of thousands of stories and lives that this car has missed out on. Condemned to its plastic wrapping.
A car is built to be driven and not to stand around for years. I really don’t understand people who buy (expensive) classic cars and let them stand their tyres flat in an air-conditioned garage. You can keep a car in a “like-new”-shape and still drive it sometimes.
This particular car is great, yes, but I agree with edmard and feel sorry for it not being driven.
