Do you have any study/organization tips for college??
YES!!! I was actually asked to do a video on this once I get to school, so I totally will, but some basics to start off with–
1. DO. NOT. PROCRASTINATE!!! It only leads to stress and feeling nervous and anxious and unprepared. I think the most wonderful thing is doing a little every day towards an assignment/project that you have a lot of time to do. I know it’s easy to get an assignment, it won’t be due for a month, and you keep putting it off. TRUST ME, get it done early :)
2. Study in a clean, tidy, light, happy environment. It makes SO much of a difference.
3. Stay organized– with everything. Your belongings, your school supplies, notebooks, your laptop, documents ON your laptop, your room, your backpack. It helps you think more clearly.
4. Try to keep a good attitude about it. Don’t glorify getting 0 hours of sleep or living off of coffee. Eat well. Drink water. Get enough sleep. Prioritize things, keep yourself in a good head space.
Those are all I can think of for now– but I’ll be sure to make a video on this in the future!
The Perfect Planner
Getting organized in college is a difficult task to pull off. From my personal experience, I wasn’t really organized before college but I did have things in order. In college, it is a necessity to a capital ‘N’. I started with making the perfect planner. I tried through trial and error to get the right planner. I finally found one that worked for me. I bought one that the perfect size, durable, and I liked the layout a lot. The one I use is the Five Star 10". I really don’t like the color since I dislike pink a lot. I had to make due with what they had left at Target. (My previous planner got mangled in my book bag…so this is why I say durable).
Now, I am alittle OCD about color coding but it is a system that has worked for me incredibly in over the past year. I love my pens which are Papermate Flair Pens! They write every time and are perfect for my planner.
I assign a color for each class and write only things down for that class in their specified color. It takes a little time to get used to but it is so worth it when it comes to glancing quickly at your planner.
Month to Month. I like to put test days, project due dates, scholarship application dates, events, and club meetings. I have a color for non related academic activities…here it is orange)
Day to Day. This is where you can get into a mess of trouble if you are a procrastinator like me. Put really small tasks to do. Like my reading for example: I put down “read ch. 1-3 for Foods (by Friday)” this means I have until Friday to read this. If you can assign yourself page numbers that is an even better method for studying.
Put events for that day down too since this is going to be where you are looking at most of the time. Don’t forget!
Last note: Put a paperclip between the month and the week so you can get to it easily.
Hopefully that helps you get your planner in order. I try to give the best advice to my abilities. This is based on my own experience and what works for me. Something else may work for you.
Sincerely,
Cassie
P.S. I wasn’t paid to advertise the products I talked about. I just really like them.

Confessions from an A student
Hi guys! I decided to put together all of my tips and tricks to get good grades AND ways to get them in an healthy way. Just for you to know, I’m a college student who gets 8 to 9 classes a semester (27-32 hours per week). I also have a R score (the Quebec equivalent of a GPA) of 32, which is considered really good. Between all of that I have a part time job and I try to have a life, haha! Let’s get started with those tips!
1. USE YOUR PLANNER! This is pretty obvious but your planner is your best friend. Buy one that suits your need : I always suggest buying one with a week-at-a-glance overview, with plenty of space to write your assignments, exams and also your personal stuff. If you’re as picky as I am, I recommend this one (plus it’s really cute!). If you’re more picky than I am, you can always check out the bullet journal system.
2. USE YOUR SCHOOL’S APP! If your school has a mobile application, you’d be a fool not to use it! (kidding you’re all amazing) My school (and basically every college in Quebec) uses Omnivox and it’s the best way to reach our teachers, our counselors and EVEN our classmates. Every assignment, document and grades are posted on this application so I suggest that you look into it.
3. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR SYLLABUS! Don’t ever throw away this little piece of paper omg please! Every important due dates are on your syllabus. Plus, if you change your degree during your time in college, they might be handy to get your classes credited.
4. DON’T EVER PULL AN ALLNIGHTER! Okay this one might be harder for some people but please please please don’t do that! Try to schedule every study moment that you need on your free time during the day so you can sleep at night. Every week, I try to maximize my work done so that I can be in bed at 10 max so that I can wake up at 6 the next day. (Perks of living 30 min away from campus and having a lot of 8am classes haha) Learn to manage your time before doing any extraordinary measure, your body will thank you!
5. ALWAYS START STUDYING AT LEAST 3 TO 4 DAYS BEFORE YOUR EXAM! If it’s possible, 5 days would be even better! By studying in small chunks, your brain will be more likely to remember it. Studying the night before is never a good idea…
6. UNSUBSCRIBE FROM NETFLIX! Okay don’t throw rocks at me but you KNOW that you prefer whatching half a season of Grey’s anatomy than studying for your English class don’t even try to lie to me! I always do that during my semester since I binged watched Gilmore Girls during my final week of exams at the end of my first semester in college… (not a good idea trust me on this one) Netflix keeps your preferences for 8 months so you have enough time to finish that semester ;)
7. DON’T BE SCARED TO ASK FOR HELP! I asked so many times my teachers for a preventive correction and they were always glad to help! Obviously not all teachers do this kind of stuff, get to know them well. Ask anyway! If they can’t (or don’t want to because they’re mean) help you, ask your classmates for tips. If none of that helps you, Youtube is always your best friend!
8. GET TO KNOW YOU! Only you can find your perfect study method. A visual person won’t use the same technique that an auditive person might use. Try differents things, you will eventually find something that works really well for you.

Anonymous said to collegerefs: This gonna sound real sad lmao but can you write a post about making friends? I got to community college so everyone is doing their own thing & not very sociable.
This is an issue that many people deal with in college, even if they won’t admit to it. Sometimes making friends in college is just hard. Here are some tips to try to make the process a bit less difficult.
1. Talk to people on the first day of a new semester.
If you don’t talk to people on the first day, you may feel too uncomfortable to try making friends a few weeks into the semester. Plus, it’s easy to strike up a conversation on the first day. Here are some potential things to say:
“Have you heard anything about this professor?”
“Do you think this class will be hard?”
“Do you know if the book for this class is required?”
Once you have a conversation going, it’s not hard to talk to people on the second, third, and forth day. Typically students will sit in the same seat everyday, so try to talk to the people around you! You might make a new friend!
2. If you live on campus, try being friends with your roommate, if possible. They are a great connection to other new friends.
You don’t have to be best friends with your roommate, but if you manage to be friends with them, then they are a great way to meet more new people! It’s so much easier to become friends with someone you have something in common with, and a great ice breaker is “You know my roommate!”
3. Take group work as an opportunity for friendship.
Everyone hates group work. Everyone. But it’s also a great opportunity to make friends. Bond over the fact that everyone hates group work. Try to get together with your group outside of class. This is one of the easiest ways to make friends in college because you have to interact with your group, so you don’t have to worry about coming up with an ice breaker or awkwardly introducing yourself.
4. Take to the internet.
Most universities have a Facebook group for each class of students. Just look up “[Your school] class of [year you’re graduating]” to find it. This helps especially if you’re a Freshman, because other students are often looking for people to get lunch with, explore the campus, etc.
5. Get a job on or near campus.
A lot of the friends you make in college are people that you work with. It’s remarkably easy to become friends with someone who you see each week. Talk to your coworkers and try to arrange a study session at the library!

Room Organization
My room is like my brain. Cluttered, claustrophobic, and all of the important things are in piles on the ground. I think it amplifies my stress, tbh. The problem though, is that I have NO idea how to fix it. Or maybe I'm just too lazy. Either way it's becoming a problem.
