Ran a Dark Heresy seasion today. The players were investigating a group of unsanctioned psykers who believe their gifts to be granted by the God-Emperor.

They started a fight, and the VERY FIRST psyker that attempted a cast to fight back rolled doubles for psychic phenomena, rolled perils, and then got a 100+ result on the perils of the warp table. Exploding them, dragging them into the warp, and replacing them with a bloodletter.

Only the party's arbites and a single enemy psyker made their fear test. Said psyker actually managed to slightly harm the bloodletter with a power, so they decided "I just need to channel all the power of the Emperor" and pushed their PR by +4. Perils'd, exploded, and summoned another daemon.

Had no idea the session was going to be like that. Killed 2 characters, 1 burnt fate. The arbite couldn't justify to themselves escaping the 2 daemons bearing down on him via fate and accepted death.

I've won two tournaments with lists that included a Hatchetman (mostly because I wanted a lance full of melee mechs), and its primary use is to be bait. When you position it, you put it in a place where the rest of your lance can target whoever is going after the Hatchetman. It's slow and has weak armor so opponents will generally target it first, but its also very cheap so if it dies, then you haven't lost much of value.

Its also good as a distraction, as many players (casual players at least) will be irrationally afraid of any melee attack, and avoid it at all costs. Allowing it to her your opponent into your shooters' killzone
