Birthday Present for Escanor

"What you worrying about?" Merlin jumped. It was Kaon, the tavern owner. She'd noticed the mage kept looking over at the door and had come to check on her. Merlin knew it was stupid, Escanor wasn't some weakling. Not like Fraudrin, who she'd also seen head into that cave. And yet...

"Escanor will come back." The pikachu told her, before realising what the date was. She'd been so busy she'd forgotten.

"Oh, it's his birthday isn't it?" The mage nodded. The pikachu grinned. The mage wanted to do something nice for him.

"Derieri, can you give me a hand with something?" She asked the ginger. The ginger girl nodded, and the three of them headed upstairs.

Escanor was a little grubby. It wasn't very nice in that Ant Cave; too much loose dirt and too many huge ants that splattered everywhere when you killed them. Not that some of his comrades cared, based on the maniacal laughter coming from one of the other areas of the cave. Arbus, Tarmiel and Eastin looked annoyed by all of them though; they'd been tasked with cleaning the people coming back with their water magic. Which did beg the question of where Merlin was.

"Looking for your lady love, eh?" Pellegarde asked. Escanor's cheeks went a little pink. Pellegarde was a relatively new edition to their tavern, and even he'd noticed how he felt about Merlin. Derieri wandered up to them. Which wasn't a surprise; Monspeet had gone with the pair of them.

"When you've got clean head up to your room." The ginger speaking to him was. Escanor nodded in answer, waiting patiently for someone to help him get clean. It took a little while, there were quite a few teams exploring that cave. He headed upstairs, pushing the door open. The lighting was low, but there was no mistaking the sight before him. Merlin lay on his bed, only a strip of fabric protecting her modesty. She grinned upon seeing her visitor.

"Happy birthday." She commented, his cheeks turning red. She'd done this for him.

"Um... you didn't have to do..."

"No I did. You deserve a present and... Kaon informed me you'd like me wrapped up in a ribbon." She wasn't wrong; the mage looked gorgeous like this. He made his way over, Merlin smirking at him.

"Would the birthday boy like to open his present?" She asked in a flirtatious tone. Escanor's entire face went red.

AN: I did actually send out the three flame wielding moustached men as a team into one of those zones in the Ant Cave. I drew the Merlin because it is Escanor's birthday today. I thought he'd approve of his lady love in this get up. There may be another 3 posts like this one later in the year.

"Why would you include those images in the book?"

In most sex scenes in Marvel comics - there is none [no sex], actually. You just see - oh, yeah, they wake up from the bed, and the deed has been done. This is one of the comics where we go into it as far as we can. So I think that's what made you think - you find it extremely steamy, or made you think "Oh we need to find a new writer, I'm going to go to your page and say the nastiest things," because of how far we go with it. But I think it's something that is necessary in this art form; we need to push things as far as we can. You wouldn't believe that a major X-Men event came out this same week because there were almost the same amount of discussions about this single page as much as there are on an X-Men event - a crossover event between two X-Men titles is having maybe even less discussion online than a single page from a Storm solo series. So that's the thing - we need to push the envelope. We've got to explore the different aspects of this character's life, [...] she's going to fight, she's going to do all that stuff, and sex is part of human life. It's part of the art form, it's part of storytelling.

The stuggles of being a writer.

A shame that I have to actually finish my book before I get to read it. I enjoy writing it just as much but I am looking forward to finishing my first book and getting to read through it, even if I do know what's going to happen.
