Life had never been peaches and roses for Rory. Her parents split up even before she was born - always at each others throats. Neither were equipped to raise a child. Luck enough they both tried their best. Her father was always in and out of prison for stealing and drugs, but she always felt close to him. Her mother balanced a few jobs when she could, but never kept them for very long.Â
Her mother passed when she was 16. Something that didn’t shake her world as much as it should have. Her parents always felt ephemeral to her, not like role models by any means. She was heartbroken, but also somewhat always knew something like this could happen. For the two years until she was 18 she did everything she could to make sure her father stayed out of jail - worried she’d get put into foster care.Â
Rory always knew how to adapt and survive. For her early 20’s she bounced around much like her mom - taking jobs where she could and partying when she wasn’t working. Her dad managed a clean slate for a while, taking care of himself and staying out of trouble. She had a good head on her shoulder, not mad at the life she was dealt even though she very well could be. She found happiness in the company she kept and the moments she created.Â
When she was 27, she met a musician at a local show. Little did she know that night would change her life forever. Quickly she fell in love and even quicker that musician began to grow in success. Rory began touring with the band, watching how the man she met in a dingy bar became a heartthrob to the world over night.Â
Less than a year after meeting, the two were married. Money poured in. Suddenly she had everything she could ever imagine, things she never even thought her own life could look like. She was so in love and so happy for his success. The first couple years of this were bliss.Â
By the 3rd year, the fighting began. They spent more time apart when he was on the road, because Rory sensed he didn’t want her there as much. She started to suspect he was cheating on her when he was away, but there was never any proof. Her mind drove her crazy wondering about it all - if she was just making it up in her head.Â
On their 5th wedding anniversary, Rory went to surprise her husband at a show. She walked in on him cheating. Everything changed. She knew she needed out of the relationship. At first she wanted nothing from him, just a divorce and to be done with him. Then all of the requirements from his lawyers started to pour in, like what she wasn’t allowed to talk about.Â
Two years later, the divorce papers finally went through and Rory got the deal of a lifetime. Truly, not needing to lift a finger again if she didn’t want to. With nothing but open ended potential, she decided to move back to her home town to see what th next chapter might hold.
