"I think it was," Thad replied solemnly. Knowing that was the terrifying part. And that’s where he came in - completely clueless and inexperienced. 

Thad looked up at the girl, scoffing slightly at the insinuation. “21, not that it’s any of your business. But I’m certainly not a child.”

"21? You really don't look 21." Rosa shrugged, "Maybe that'll be a blessing in later years though." She then smiled, tugging some of her dark hair behind her ear. "Why so upset about being left an entire city?"

Isla giggled, still not looking Rosa in the eye, but smiling genuinely. “Y-yeah, um, most of my, my high school friends were like that. Their, their parties were mental. S-so, you’re not, not part of these dangerous lifestyles?” Her voice took on a slightly teasing tone as she started feeling more relaxed around the girl, and most of all she wanted to make a good impression. To look normal and be more like Gerry, rather than some stupid girl with a stupid stutter.

Rosa shook her head, "I would never put toxins in my body." She explained, "I mean, aside from the occasional drink." She shrugged, thinking back to her father and his alcohol dependency. "What about you? No hobbies that could be potentially fatal?"

"What did I get?" he scoffed as he repeated, "I got a will that said, ‘it’s all yours, Thad," but didn’t find out what ‘it’ was," he admitted to the strange girl. 

"That’s me," he said as she recognized his name. He pulled a face at the next part, however. "And how, exactly, did you picture me?"

"I'm sorry to hear that." She said, her smile soft and sad. It must be hard losing a parent though, if either of Rosa's parents dropped dead - her father especially - she'd probably laugh and party like there was no tomorrow. Though, she reminded herself that some people actually had good relationships with their fathers. "Maybe it was Chicago?" She then suggested.

"I pictured you older, actually. Like, late twenties. How old are you? Like seventeen or something?"

Isla bit her lip. Rosa was looking rather awkward, or sad, and she hoped that she hadn’t set her off by accident. “S-so… Um, what are your friends like?”

None-existant is Rosa wanted to say, but smiled instead. "They're wild. Party people. Living a dangerous lifestyle ad all that, you know." She let out a laugh, wondering whether she'd ever be friends with such kind of people. "They do drugs and shit, but I'm not into that kinda thing." She then added, hoping that Isla wasn't judging her based off her imaginary friends.

"Did you really just compare me to a children’s movie?" Thad asked with a slight chuckle in his speech. "But yes, I’ve seen it and I wish I had gotten a speech like Simba did. Would have been better than what I got." He looked over at her with a snide smile and a roll of his eyes. "I just told you I own the town…you can’t figure out who I am based on that?" He shook his head at the brunette, "Thaddeus Luciano."

"What did you get?" Rosa asked, genuinely curious. She was just about to point out that maybe she wasn't from around but the name stopped her. Luciano, she heard of Luciano alright. "Thaddeus Luciano?" She repeated in a soft voice, "You're...not what I imagined."

"Y-yeah. They're good, we, um, we look after each other and... A-and stuff." She trailed off awkwardly, her face flushing again. It was difficult to explain why she felt like Rosa gave off a lost girl vibe, it was just something she sensed. She couldn't even explain what a 'lost girl' vibe was, it just being something she'd grown used to over the last few years.

"Right, I see." Rosa said with a nod glancing down at the ground, wishing that she had something similar. Someone who's look out for her, and care for her, all just for that in return. She, however, was just lonely, something she sadly had to deal with.

Isla considered this, trying to decide. It was true that she didn’t trust the girl, but that was because she barely knew her. There was always an underlying fear that she’d get hurt, with nearly anyone and women weren’t exempt. Even very pretty women. Her step mother had been stunningly beautiful, and that had turned out horribly. Eventually, she spoke. “N-no. I’m not scared of you. Y-you, um, you’re kind of like the girls at work. Y-you give off that feeling. I-if I was scared of you, I-I wouldn’t be walking with you.”

"Kind of like the girls at work?" Rosa asked, with a small frown. She hoped that was a good thing, it seemed like a good thing after all. The brunette knew she should have been grateful that she didn't scare the girl, but one thing about Rosa - that certainly didn't fit her lifestyle at all- was that she never seem satisfied.

Thad couldn’t help the glare that came from his eyes, putting down the remaining fries that were in his hand. “If only you were that lucky,” he murmured, turning himself in the stool and leaning back against the bar. “This city you’re sitting in - it’s mine. And everything in it.”

"Have you ever seen the Lion King?" Rosa asked, instead of acknowleding that he had the power to kill her. She had nothing else to lose, after all. Might as well have a bit of fun whilst she still could. "You're starting to sound like Mufasa when he gives that speech to Simba before the Circle of Life song." She let out a small laugh, "Everything the sun touches.." She mimicked, "But seriously, I actually can't recognize your face. If you want me to know who you are, I prefer names. Not property announcements."

Thad only stared at the girl and her whiplash worthy retort. Who the hell was this girl talking to him like that? “It’s watch that mouth of yours if you plan on keeping it,” he said sternly, but with little to back it up. He certainly wasn’t going to hurt her and Ezra was no where around. But he knew enough of his old business to know he had access to those who could. “Do you have the faintest idea who you’re talking to like that?”

She stared at the face for a bit, frowning slightly. She honestly had no idea who he was, and it was really fun to wind someone up a bit. And she never got to have fun anymore. Deciding that she'd apologize for her behaviour later, she smirked. "Let me guess, the second coming of Jesus? You're sure as hell acting like you're that damn important."

"I-I’m scared of everything," Isla mumbled, echoing something Danny had sighed the other night. Those words did bother her quite a lot, but she knew it was true. No wonder he got frustrated with her. She laughed a little at Rosa’s surprise. "Well, we wouldn’t want to live t-too far from where we work. M-me and my sister, I-I mean."

"Are you scared of me?" Rosa asked, suddenly curious, raising an eyebrow at the girl. She didn't want to seem like a theat - quite the opposite, actually - and had always been too invested in what other people thought of her. The brunette thought she had left that all behind when she ran away from home, but she guessed that old habits die hard.

Thad’s eyes rolled over to the side towards the voice and where it was coming from. “They might,” he said, forcing another huge handful into his mouth purposely and chewed obnoxiously in front of the girl. “Have you ever been a fry? How do you know they don’t possess human characteristics?”

Rosa was already done with this conversation. He was asking her whether fried potatoes had human characteristics? Did he think he was living in the world of Harry Potter or some shit? She certainly wasn't going to humor him with something so ridiculous. "Have you ever actually swallowed your food or do you just vigorously chew it so until it falls out of your huge mouth?" She shot back instead.

"Y-yeah, but I’ve, I-I’ve lived here six years." Her anxiety was oftten very embarrassing to Isla, ruining first impressions and forcing her into empty spaces to calm down. It had been especially horrible starting work at the bar, being the ‘new girl’ and new eye candy for the customers all at once. She’d often found herself gasping for breath in the store cupboard. "I-I think we’re nearly there." An attempt to change the subject.

"I bet someone who's lived here for more than that still gets scared sometimes." She told the girl, with a small smile. She nodded when Isla told her they were almost at the bar. "Are we? That was quick." She murmured.

Isla’s eyes stayed fixed firmly on the sidewalk, on hand messing self consciously with her hair. “I-I shouldn’t act like that, i-it’s stupid.”

"It isn't." Rosa assured her. "It's not stupid at all. I mean, we're in a pretty rough neighbourhood. It's okay to be like that around people who seem shady. Especially round here."

My god! Curly fries, you are my only friend.

Rosa knew it was rude, but she couldn't help but just stare at the young man and his eating habits, equally disgusted and fascinated at how many fries he could shove into his mouth. "Um...you know, they won't run away from the plate if you jut eat them one by one."

Isla nodded stiffly, keeping her eyes fixed firmly on the ground until, finally, they turned the next corner. A sigh of relief left her, her body relaxing. “I-I’m sorry…” Her voice was low, her face flushed with embarrassment.

"Why are you sorry?" Rosa asked in a soft voice, "You didn'tt do anything. It's okay." She assured the girl,trying to get a better look at her face, hoping that she wasn't too upset by the group of men who passed them.

Their gazes on both girls (especially Rosa, looking ready for her night out where Isla was just in jeans and a t-shirt) felt as though they were burning into her skin. A voice not unlike Danny’s was hissing at her in the back of her mind, telling her to stop drawing their attention, her breathing getting quicker by the second. She moved closer to Rosa, ignoring a wolf whistle and the sound of laughter coming from the group.

"Just ignore them." Rosa murmured to her, used to wolf-whisltes and cat calls. God knows how many she had over the years. "Just keep walking." She didn't mean to start ordering the girl around but, she was clearly uncomfortable and the only thing the brunette decided she could do was instructing her, hoping it would help.
