Happy one year anniversary to Phantom Liberty!
(And of course, happy one year anniversary to my obsession over Rosalind Myers!)
(sentimental and unhinged blabla under the cut)
On this day, exactly one year ago, my life got changed for the better. I had just gotten out of an unhappy longterm relationship and I was still devastated for the person I lost (don't worry, I'm long over it now lmao). I awaited Phantom Liberty with high anticipation, already being curious about the role president Myers would play in this Cyberpunk spy-thriller.
And then, the evening of the 26th September rolled around. I literally sped home from work, a wide grin plastered on my face - I didn't bother eating that evening, I immediately stormed into my room to boot up the DLC. Songbird called, letting me in on the sitch, I raced to Dogtown, saw Space Force one getting shot out of the sky by Kurt Hansen. I ran, shot my way through Hansen's BARGHEST, reached the downed spaceplane...
Blood pumping, palms sweating and severely awestruck by the tough, level-headed, calculating and graceful President of the NUSA, I fought my way through Dogtown. Every comment of hers spurred me and V on to give our very best for her sake - and I vividly remember the utter heartbreak watching her leave with Reed after just one and a half hours into the DLC. (I still get heartbroken watching that scene unfold even now, 35+ playthroughs later lmao)
... And got my ass handed to me by no one other than President Rosalind Myers herself.
Immediate heart-eyes.
And then, the rest of Phantom Liberty.
Damn.
Until the very end I didn't know who to trust. I went with Songbird, only for her to betray me. I surrendered her to the NUSA, hoping to get another glimpse of the president, but alas, my fate had been sealed. Waking up two years later to a world unknown and my friends non existent.
Again, DAMN.
Phantom Liberty's ending had me bawling my eyes out in a way none of the other endings could achieve.
And then, of course, I did the only right thing: Booting up an older save and betraying Songbird.
The two hours that followed had me, once again, SCREAMING AND SWEATING in the Cynosure Facility, but in the end, it was all worth it. Albeit Rosalind didn't follow thought with her promise to take me out for dinner, she DID acknowledge what I had done for her country. And that smirk on her lips.
That. Damn. Smirk. (Not to mention the aviators she wore)
Here I am now, a year later, munching on my breakfast while writing these paragraphs. Clearly a lot has happened since that fateful evening a year ago. Thanks to the DLC, I found some amazing friends (shoutout to @lodgeofeilhart and @thatcyberpsycho ), I finally managed to move out and into my own flat, my walls are rimmed with countless photographs of Ros (lmao I'm not okay) and I can wholeheartedly say that I finally arrived to where I belong.
So again, thank you @cyberpunkgame , thank you CDPR for making this game and the stunning DLC. It literally changed me.
And thank YOU, dear reader for still reading this lmao.
More updates to my fic are on the way!
