i refuse to subscribe to the idea that jackie tyler is a terrible, or even bad, cook. in my mind, she may not be the most traditionally skilled and sometimes it may not look the best, but dammit if she doesn't know how to make something quick, cheap, and filling. i'm talking a collaged recipe book in the kitchen filled with recipes from friends, neighbors, customers at the salon, the guy who runs the corner shop down the street, etc. anything she thought would work well for two (three for when mickey, or any of rose's other friends, came around). it may not have been easy, not in the slightest, but jackie tyler made sure her daughter got fed and got fed well for the situation and budget they had to work with

also that christmas dinner in "the christmas invasion" looks really good. i rest my case, your honor

(also also i've never realized how deeply happy the doctor looks here. that's the look of someone who's found home after a very long time without and it turns my heart into pulp)

the appeal for nine and rose for me, is that nine gets to reconnect with the wonders of the universe by seeing it through this young woman's eyes and rose gets to have a fantasy of being taken out of everyday life and see the wonders of the universe, as a simple fairytale/(re)introduction to the world for the audience

the appeal for ten and rose for me, is that they double-down on this premise because it's inevitably going to end and is constantly ticking down to that end throughout this story, and the only way for them to move through life now is to pretend that nothing ever ends which makes them increasingly detached from reality, and is in and of itself a tragedy

the appeal for ten and martha for me, is that ten is spiralling and martha is a doctor to her core, and both of them want to fix everything for everyone else except themselves and so they're mirrors of a similar self-destructive sacrificial drive that makes them orient around each other in an unhealthy coping-mechanism kind of way that martha eventually has to detach herself from, even though there were the wonders...

the appeal for ten and donna for me, is that donna is actually very level-headed, and in many ways very capable, even though she doesn't believe in herself she can make decisions that are healthier than either rose or martha could, and the doctor initially through wanting her to believe in herself forces themself outside of their bubble of despair, which somewhat breaks the cycle of the previous companions (although, not properly until a very long time later)

Okay, but what if Ten’s such a whore because of Nine’s love for rose? What then?

What if with his last dying wishes Nine thought about himself not really being a romantic or romancible in the classic way in general? What if he wanted to be that for rose, to be better for her so he soft-programmed ten to be (a coward, yes) but also a loverboy, a person highly susceptible to romance, a person who, if rose tried to date, would return her efforts tenfold? And what if it backfired? What if we got a ptsd-ridden war veteran wearing the skin of a dream boyfriend? What if any time someone tries to romance him he responds in kind no matter what his actual feelings about them may be? Because that’s what he’s meant to be, someone who can love Rose Tyler with all his heart and he Does, he loves her more than the sky above but if anyone else tries? Yes, of course I’ll be with you forever you lovely blond woman, sure 😃 Why do I love you? Oh idk, but I want to be with someone even though I can’t stay in one place and seek adventure and danger as my life’s purpose. No, that’s not contradictory what do you mean?

So yeah, calling Madam de Pompadour, the racist nurse, the Titanic waitress and whoever else I missed reflections of his longing for Rose is a stretch but a glitch in his Rose-loving core purpose? Yeah, I’m gonna do that, it helps me sleep at night
