––– backstory
rose was born in oslo, norway to a very middle class family. she grew up reading a lot, loving to learn, and overall just someone who was kind of a people person but also loved her alone time. one would say she had a fairly normal childhood, and she was someone who matured very quickly at a young age due to her love of literature and her perceptiveness.
everything really changed when rose was in a hit and run car accident with her parents and younger brother. she was 16 at the time, and her brother actually passed away due to the accident. after that, her family could never really recover. her parents grew fairly cold and distant, the house felt emptier without her little brother’s presence, and rose spent a lot of time grieving. however, when the authorities dropped the case of looking for the drunk driver who crashed into them, that’s when rose turned her grief into action and started looking into it.
she really figured out her talents and limits when she would charm the detectives to give her records and documents, she’d interview neighbors, and basically she cracked down the case with intention and drive and purpose to help her finally get closure.
ultimately, she actually found the driver, and he did confess to being drunk and accepted his punishment, though the process of getting him there was hard and long. rose made sure her parents got the closure and justice they deserved, though they never really appreciated rose for her efforts. to them, it wasn’t therapeutic, instead brought up memories both were struggling to move on from.
picking up context clues and putting puzzle pieces together, as well as being the one to see the truth in the situation and persevere is what made her interested in journalism. she applied to strathmore due to their excellent program, and ultimately got in due to her success story and the article she wrote that was published in her local paper about her success.
rose was brought into the society by philip, her predecessor, who is a huge role model for her. she’s curious and always asking questions and observant af, and now with poppy’s disappearance, especially someone from her year, rose is more determined than ever to solve this stuff, and won’t back down without a fight.

there’s familiarity in his step as he walks down the hallway of rose and his’ dorm room. the only current living resident may have been their cactus and the window may have been long fixed, but their dorm holds so many warm memories that it almost feels like restoring a sense of normality as his keys turn in the door; remnants of paint still on his fingertips at half four in the afternoon with a bag of art supplies in hand brought over belatedly from the manor. but as key opens the lock and eliot takes in the sight of the room before him, his eyebrows raise ever so slight. evidence that rose has already been hard at work. there’s stifled curiosity in his gaze as he looks between papers dashed across the room, hesitant fingertips reaching out to brush at the corner of the nearest one. “… uh, what’s all this?”
everything felt like a whirlwind. being back on campus, learning about miles — rose should have done more digging when she had the chance, just another thing to regret — as if the events of new years eve and the inevitable date in the upcoming weeks wasn’t stressful enough. but oh how easy it was for rose to drown — the words of her case studies, poppy’s own words from her diary, the news reports about miles, they were waves that crashed and pulled rose down and she went without a fight, resorting back to her facts and her words rather than the subtle beating ache in her heart. she didn’t even have the comfort of her own room to litter with files relating to the investigation — instead, at least for now, she was back with eliot. in a place she once found comfort, the shared room now made rose self conscious, knowing eliot would only try to help when the only thing that could help now was bringing poppy and miles home. she sat in her bed, new reports and files scattered on her bed, a pen and paper in hand and a medium sized dry erase board leaning on the side, recreating some of her evidence board. rose had nearly recreated the entire thing, but students roamed the halls who didn’t know of her work — of the society, so she needed something she could easily erase and yet continuously change all the same. she looked up at the sound of the door opening, a familiar aquamarine greeting her. she looked down at her notes, flipping her pen between her fingers before tucking it behind her ear. ❝ information, ❞ she answered simply. ❝ it feels although the stakes are higher than ever. i’m simply trying to beat the clock. ❞ rose looked up at him, eyeing his face with a soft gaze. ❝ how are you ? ❞ she asked, knowing he would understand. perhaps it’s one thing knowing people assumed he was missing, and another thing to be informed he was meant to be taken instead. the entire situation make rose dizzy with fear, the number of people she trusted lessening by the second.
