Theios practically glowed when he noticed Evan’s smile widening. He was glad he could make the other camper so happy with such a tiny gesture. Really, it was amazing. Evan was amazing. “I’ll make sure to look it up later.” Probably as soon as he got home, actually, before he forgot. Or tomorrow, at the latest, in case he couldn’t find it and had to go ask Robbie, which was probably pathetic, but at least Theios was confident that Robbie would help him if he asked. He hummed a little after. “I don’t know if I’ve ever had strawberry pie. Lucien makes the best apple pie ever, though.”

“Of course, just let me know when you do, okay? No rush too since we have to plan everything... I just want it to be perfect for you and Cael too.” Evan replied-- even though they were both planning the surprise together, he wanted it to be perfect for the other camper too. Even if that meant going to the city to get whatever it is Theios would tell him. That was a quick trip that he thought was going to be worth it. “It’s the best! But apple pie is delicious too. Honestly, everything except pies with coconut. That’s not good.”

Theios smiled to Evan, bright and content, thoroughly at peace with the world for the moment. After a second, he paused and then leaned over to shyly return the kiss on the cheek. It was…probably okay, right? He hoped so. He wanted to give Evan everything that Evan was giving to him, everything he could because this was so nice. He wanted to be someone that Evan could reach out to and receive warmth from. “Uh. I don’t. Well, I don’t really know what it’s called? I don’t know a lot of food names.” Not in English, at least. “But there’s a restaurant I know near here. I think they have a menu online. I might be able to find it? And then I can show you.” He could put in a very valiant effort, at least, or just go and ask Robbie. Robbie would know, or Robbie could show him and then snicker at his attempts and that would be okay because as long as Robbie was having a good time, Theios would be happy. “What’s your favourite dish?”

Miracle just smiled wider when Theios kissed his cheek-- he felt almost a huge relief because Theios felt comfortable doing that with him. And maybe he was excited to tell Caelan about it. “Well, it doesn’t matter now as long as you can give me what it is before the picnic so we can get it for you too.” He knew that it was still scary to go outside but this short trip will be worth it. They didn’t have to rush anything at all though. Humming he tried to think of all the best dishes he’s eaten-- a lot came to mind but what stood out was his father’s strawberry pie. “Strawberry pie. That’s my favorite.”

Theios flushed deeply as Evan leaned over to kiss his cheek, flustered in the best way by the casual affection. He still wasn’t used to such things, but he was getting there and thriving with the knowledge that he could reach out to so many people and be given affection without question. “We should! It’ll be fun!” The planning as much as the event itself, as long as Theios was planning it with Evan. Caelan would be so very surprised and hopefully in the best way.

Evan was getting used to casual affection again-- the way he didn’t have to hide anymore and just express his love or whatever he was feeling. He didn’t have that in the military and he definitely didn’t have that the months he was out. The thought of planning the date between the three of them was exciting to him already and he couldn’t wait to start. “Wait, what’s your favorite dish? So I can make it for the picnic.” The son of Akhlys asked, realizing that he genuinely didn’t know. Well, he’d have to make up for that now, wouldn’t he?

Theios smiled to Evan, warm and sweet. “Yeah, but I want to find a nice place for us.” Somewhere with even terrain so that it wouldn’t be hard for Evan to walk and so they could comfortably sit on the ground- assuming he didn’t just shadow-travel them straight to the picnic location. “Oh, can we? They’d love that!” And he’d love being able to surprise them with such a sweet thing.

Evan trusted Theios to pick the right place and he definitely won’t interfere with that-- he would be the one bringing the food and even the entertainment. But that just means he’d look for a movie that the three of them would enjoy. Nodding, the couldn’t help but lean towards Theios to press a kiss on his cheek. It was adorable that he was very excited at the thought of surprising their partner. “Yeah, we could. We should plan this out together, yeah? I want it to be perfect for Cael.”

Theios grinned at the idea and then tipped his head in thought. “Maybe a beach, or a cliff? I bet I could find someplace nice.” Even if the ‘finding’ was more along the lines of asking Lucien for good places to go. He rather thought that Lucien would be plenty willing to help him pick out a nice place for a sunset picnic. It would be a lot of fun.

“I don’t mind the place, as long as I’m with you and Caelan.” Evan would have to ask Caelan to help with his leg again if they were going to walk a distance-- asking Theios to shadow-travel would be too much energy especially if there’s gonna be the three of them. Or he’d just have to deal with his bum leg again, like usual. “We can surprise Caelan too, if you’d like that?”

Theios wasn’t very good with affection, in that he wasn’t used to being able to get and give it. He was more than willing to learn, though, and was glad that he had so many people willing to teach him. He lit up as Evan smiled at him and suggested that they invite Caelan next time- because that meant there was a next time and he was plenty excited for that. “As long as I am not in charge of making the picnic foods, I think that’s a great idea.”

Evan was momentarily stunned when Theios had lit up at the mention of inviting Caelan. It was one of those rare smiles and expressions from the other camper. The feeling made him warm all over. “Don’t worry, I can be in charge of the food. You can be in charge of bringing Caelan wherever we plan on going. Maybe another picnic but during the sunset this time?” The son of Akhlys asked, looking at Theios with a thoughtful expression on his face.

Theios was still very new to the whole affection thing- most of the affection he’d ever gotten had been from his mother and she was years and years gone, so this was him re-learning it all and it was bewildering but so nice- and he was trying. It helped that he had fantastic teachers that he adored plenty enough to make the effort. He glanced up as Evan spoke and smiled, sweet and genuine. “I’m glad to be here. I’m glad we’re both here.”

Evan rarely gave out affection-- he only did with the people he cared about. And right now, that was Caelan and Theios. Though with Theios, it was pretty recent. Given the time they always shared in his garden, it was natural that the two of them would get comfortable together. Looking at Theios, he felt his heart beat faster seeing that smile on his face directed towards him. “I’m really glad. Next time, we can invite Cael too.”

Caelan never really thought that anyone would accept them before. Being lost and ending up decades later in a different year had its perks and this is one of the good things. And it was even better that they found two boys who loved Cael even if they don’t fully understand themself. “Okay,” they replied. Cael was glad to know Evan liked their hair, long or short. His words kept replaying in their mind and they liked thinking about this more than the mistakes they’ve done. “Oh. I love you, too,” Cael added after a short while. “I think I’m still not okay, and I’m sorry. I’m just… so confused. I’m as confused as I was when I came out of the Casino and now I’m back here.”

Evan was the last person to judge anyone, especially based on their looks. It was one of the things drilled onto him as a kid by his dads. And really, it was none of his business-- as long as people were happy with how they were, he would be supportive. Especially of Caelan, who came from a completely different time. “Never apologize for that, okay? I can’t imagine what you’re going through. But we’ll figure it out together-- you, me, and Theios. No matter how long it’ll take.”

Theios flushed deeply as Evan kissed his hand, fending off the urge to hide because of it. He took a breath instead and then hesitantly tugged on Evan’s hand so that he could do the same thing. It was just sweet and nice and he didn’t want to interrupt the movie, but he wanted Evan to know that he’d appreciated the affection. He appreciated it a lot, actually, even if it couldn’t quite look at Evan after, too shy to see what was on his face. He didn’t let go of his hand, though.

Evan knew that him and Theios would have matching blushes on their cheeks-- it was the first time that the two of them had gotten this close and even touchy. Besides the fact that they cuddled. But even then, it wasn’t this close. They were never this close. Glancing towards Theios, who was focused on the screen. That made him grin, squeezing the other camper’s hand tighter. “I’m glad you’re here.” He couldn’t help but say again.

Theios knew that both he and his partners had their fair share of self-esteem issues, but to him that just meant being extra genuine in his compliments and making sure that even if Caelan or Evan had problems seeing what he saw, they could at least trust that he did see in them something amazing. He curled his fingers into Evan’s and smiled sweetly to him before turning his attention to the movie, reading the subtitles with no small amount of awe.

Evan, Cael, and Theios had different ways of reacting to compliments but they all ultimately end up doing the same thing when giving compliments to their partners. It’s what made them all special and just click, he could say. The son of Akhlys ended up staring at their hands entwined for longer than necessary before lifting them up and pressing a kiss on the back of Theios’s hand. Too shy to see the other camper’s reaction, he just turned his attention back to the screen, cheeks warm because of his blush.

Cael was surprised at Evan. They thought he’d be annoyed or something at their long hair but was just dealing with it because Cael was keeping it that way. It usually gets in the way of Cael’s sight especially when they’re in bed. “Would you prefer me having shorter hair?” They showed a faint smile and squeezed his hand.

To be fair-- Evan was happy with however Caelan kept their hair, as long as they were happy with it. It never mattered that it got in the way whenever they hung out with each other. “If that’s what you would like then I don’t mind you having shorter hair either. I fancied you when you had short hair and I most definitely love you with your long hair. It’s not something that’s important to me but it might be to you so I don’t have a preference.”

Theios squinted at Evan and shook his head a little bit. “You are wonderful.” Because Evan was and deserved to be told over and over until he believed it. Theios knew it wasn’t that simple, but he also knew that he was more than willing to try. His partners both deserved nothing less and Theios didn’t have much to give, but he could give this freely. He smiled as Evan moved closer and hesitated for a moment before offering him the hand that wasn’t petting Luke.

Miracle had long accepted the fact that he was never going to think of himself too highly-- he was never going to see himself how Theios and Cael would see him. And there were horrors he’s experienced that he doesn’t think he’ll ever share in fear of what his partners would think. Humming under his breath while the songs were playing, he felt himself blush shyly as he saw the offered hand hand moved much closer to be able to hold it.

Theios knew that there was a lot of technology that he was unfamiliar with and he could probably learn, but that required asking for said technology and he didn’t want to be that much of a problem for anyone. Asking for help was less of a hassle, but technology was expensive and Theios already had a phone. He didn’t need anything else. He was content being surprised and amazed- and seeing Evan smile at his reaction just made it better. He flushed as Evan kissed his cheek and offered a small but brilliant smile. “I believe you.” It was hard to remember, sometimes, that he could just go and ask for him and harder still to remember that he wasn’t a problem, but he was working on it. “That’s one of the reasons that I think you’re both so wonderful.”

Of course, Evan wasn’t an expert in all things technology-- he still struggled from it sometimes because he wasn’t attached to his phone or his laptop. He knew how to play a movie, watch some videos, and that was about it. Ask him about photoshop and he’ll be just as clueless as Theios. “I don’t think I’d be as wonderful or as close to being wonderful as Caelan or you are but I appreciate it nonetheless.” The son of Akhlys said before moving closer to Theios and playing the movie. Though he doubted he’d pay attention to the movie since his focus was already on Theios.

Cael was looking out of the window, but they really wasn’t seeing anything. They wasn’t familiar with the place anymore and it felt like they was watching some random video or a person driving. So when Evan spoke, Cael found themself getting distracted by their thoughts and turned their head towards their partner. Their hair was one of the very few things they kept since living in this century and it was both a symbol for themself that they used to not belong in this year and that they were living freely in the present. The only time Cael gave in to getting a trim of their split ends was after countless nagging from the sweetest Aphrodite kids. They even taught Cael what products to use and how to keep their hair healthy and soft, being a person who likes being under the sun. Ponytails only existed during Capture the Flag or when they was training—it was very traumatising to see a Camper get an uneven cut from a fight. And, one of the things they loved about having a long hair now was asking Theios to put flowers in their hair because it makes them feel special. “Really?” Cael asked softly, their free hand touching the tips of their hair.

Evan knew how important Cael’s hair was to them-- though he never really knows how deep that relationship really goes. But either way, they loved seeing their hair down all the time. He could never really learn how to braid hair but if Cael even brought it up, he’d learn. “Of course, it makes you look softer. Angel-like, dare I say, god-like too.” That was the thought Miracle always had when he would see their partner. The same would go for Theios, even with the almost ever-present scowl on his face. At the stop sign, he turned to face Cael and pressed a kiss on their lips. “But however you want to keep your hair, I still love it.”

Cael found their fingers interlocking with Evan’s. This was somehow comforting them. “I want ice cream. Or milkshake or a frappé please.” Anything cold and sweet enough, but those were the ones at the top of their mind right now. “Junk food?” They shrugged, pulling their hair tie off to let their hair loose.

It was more difficult to drive with just one hand but he would manage-- all Evan wanted to do was hold his partner’s hand. He shrugged and started looking around for any fast-food restaurant, ones that sold milkshakes. Or they would just end up at Starbucks, he wouldn’t mind as long as they could get what Cael wanted. “I love it when your hair is down. I like it like that much better.”

Once they were far enough, or maybe it was just a minute since they left the driveaway, Cael placed their hand on Evan’s leg. They just stared at the window, while trying to help with his pain. It was a way to lessen their train of thoughts as they were imagining seeing their old friends walking in the streets. Maybe if Cael saw them right now, they’d recognize them, but they couldn’t exactly remember their faces anymore. “Are you hungry?” Cael spoke. “We could grab something to eat.”

Evan could feel the pain on his leg lessen, already reaching to hold onto Caelan’s hand instead. He couldn’t well pull them towards his side of the car just because he was driving and they said they wanted to get out of there. “We could, yeah. Do you want something quick that we can take back to the hotel?” He would go with whatever Caelan wanted-- he really couldn’t care less what it was as long as he could comfort them right after.

Theios was almost pathetically easy to impress when it came to technology, but he was okay with that. There was a simple joy to be had in constantly being amazed by what his friends and family could do with the press of a few buttons, a simple happiness in allowing himself to be impressed by what seemed to be such simple things to them. Theios had long learned to appreciate the little things were he could find them. He beamed to Evan after, genuinely delighted by the thought of being able to have subtitles in a language he understood. “That’d be amazing, but not if it’s too much trouble. I can always ask you to rewind if I have to.” Though he usually didn’t because that was a hassle itself, but still. Theios was growing confident that Evan- and Caelan- would help him understand when people in movies spoke too fast.

Evan loved seeing Theios react to technology-- he never had that reaction before and he enjoyed seeing the son of Hades react like that. He was sure that everything practically excited Theios, especially when it was something he was into. Both Theios and Caelan were the same and he would never tire seeing them react to new things. “It’s never too much trouble when it comes to you.” Shyly, Miracle moved and pressed a kiss on Theios’s cheek. “Caelan and I would never find it too much trouble.”
