Before the dream I’d never left England. I was born in a county on the outskirts of London and I’d spent my whole life there. Living next to the capitol I felt like I was getting all the cultural experience I needed, And that probably would have been my whole life.

But that night everything changed. Days of cold sweats, convulsions and shear panic slowly gave way to a greater understanding. I’d been so blind to think I knew everything I needed to know about the world.

And then the knock at the door came. An invitation to be part of something bigger. Was I ready? Far from it. But there was more at stake than myself and, though it frightened me to think of the challenges ahead, I knew I had no choice but to face them.

I loved New York. Even as a little girl it felt like everywhere else in America I stood out. I looked different. I sounded different.But not in Brooklyn. Nobody looked twice at anybody unless they wanted to be noticed. And that gave me the freedom to really be who I wanted. Because here, in my little corner of the city, everyone stood out. Which meant I blended in, as if I’d always been here. You’d think, living in a place full of misfits, I would have been closer to the change. That the dregs of society would be the first to feel the effects of the coming darkness. But I was not prepared for the power when it awakened within me. And, even once I’d learnt to contain it, I did not expect that knock at the door. Illuminati. A lost legend, a rumor so cleverly hidden in plain sight that only those who knew what to look for could detect it. The experiences in that underground bunker left me feeling afraid. Violated. And, at the same time, hungry for adventure. For the truth behind the invisible curtain I’d been invited to peek through. The more it terrified me, the more obsessed I became. All those silly thoughts about fitting in were lost on me now. Even my own identity felt forever under question. All that mattered was following my destiny. All I cared about was fighting the darkness in front of me. All I wanted to do was survive.
