first year official results!
so today my module results where released and i’m really happy with them! i’m so grateful for the safety net the university introduced for semester b due to the cutting short of the semester and i’m really impressed that it only applied to two of my grades (seen by the P(BMG)). its definitely helped me see that i did make the right decision on my course subject and has caused a motivation boost to do better next year when they really do count. as a whole i achieved two 1sts, five 2:1s and one 2:2 which i thinks pretty impressive for a first year.
semester b review!
despite the online learning and changed exam to assignments i’ve finally got all of my grades back for this semester. i’m not totally happy with two modules i got back but with the extra time i’m definitely going to take their comments into consideration and work on them. there were some really good comments that had made me feel a lot better about the grades. has made me realise group work is not the fairest way of marking and assessing students. i was also able to practice a new style of writing, critical essays which has allowed me to see where my strongest questions are and where i need to improve. definitely something i’ll practice and take note of as i think they’re more prominent in the course from next year.
make it new:
assignment one: 62/100
assignment two: 72/100
assignment three: 72/100
border crossings:
assignment one: 55/100
assignment two: 72/100
identity and contemporary writing:
assignment one: 62/100
assignment two: 58/100
american voices:
assignment one: 65/100
quiz: 46/50
assignment two: 62/100
to break up the boredom of the last few assignment’s and breakdowns i updated my spotify playlists and colour coded them (feel free to check them out!)
drip coffee & espresso are my study playlists too (ones classical and the other more acoustic)

finally submitted my poetry collection and i thought i’d share it on here:
day 12/? of semester b at home
today’s class went really well, spent the rest of the day prepping for tomorrow’s 9am
day 11/? of semester b at home
today’s been a somewhat productive day. i’ve had an identity workshop, made notes for my lecture and spent the afternoon watching disney +. after dinner i’m planning to do some prep for tomorrow’s workshop and maybe some more extra reading.
day 9/? and 10/? of semester b at home
today i tried to get ahead on assignments - took me a long time trying to find some secondary sources but it’s finally finished!
i also managed to write a few more poems for my collection that’s due next month, will be editing over the next few days before i properly submit them.
day 8/? of semester b at home
after a day of work yesterday, i spent the day at home reading the novella Mapping the Interior and completing an assignment which is due at the end of april. the assignment itself wasn’t too hard, it was to write up a lesson plan, create a handout for the task and include two secondary sources- it took longer to find relevant sources to the chosen theme (mine was masculinity in Tony Harrison’s poem V .
day 6/? of semester b at home
today was my busiest day- a workshop from 9-11, a lecture at 12 and a seminar at 1 followed by work straight after. it was fairly productive but sunday will be my catch up and get ahead day.
day 5/? of semester b at home
today’s workshop was a success, managed to get some really good discussions in and the lack of people attending during the normal class time made it easier for discussions to take place. i’ve spent the rest of the day printing and prepping for tomorrow’s 9am and the lectures straight after that.
day 4/? of semester b at home
today was my first official online uni class- an identity workshop. rather than using skype or an online call platform we used our exciting uni platform as a chat forum, i found it interesting to see how people approached the task (such as posting the questions in order of completion or all at once like I did). i think it will take some time to adapt to, but i did manage to make notes in the way i would normally (typing into the thread and then transferring onto pen and paper).
hoping to finish saint death today, and moving on to researching boy, snow, bird with some academic articles and journals
day 3/? of semester b at home
today was a day of facetime study calls, waiting for storage deliveries and reading saint death by marcus sedgwick and finishing the selection of poems by tony harrison.
day 2/? of semester b at home
today has consisted of the final move from uni, the finishing of boy, snow, bird and the reading of tony harrison’s ‘v’ poem.
day 1/? of semester b at home
with the spread of COVID-19, my university made the decision to close and move onto online lectures. I’ve spent the last week moving back home and getting my room as study suitable as possible, whilst finishing a group project worth 70% of my final grade.
to keep my last few weeks as productive as possible; i’ve decided to try and post on here to not only keep me productive but also to give my opinion on online lectures and seminars.
today’s plan is to get ahead on reading: today’s reading is for my modern literature around the world module, (boy, snow, bird by helen oyeyemi)
had to write my first poem last week and i’m kinda proud of it so here it is:
1303
first year student / the first to go in the family
short / vertically challenged like your mother
tattoos / you’ll regret that when you’re older
it’s just nerves / anxiety
why are you so red? / anxiety
you’re such a feminist / equalist
working class scum |comfortably getting by
millennials | me |generation z
(there was no form we had to follow so i kinda decided to experiment and see what happened)
2.02 / my reading list is growing exponentially and now I'm playing catch up with it
