Stopping just outside the living room, Seto handed his crutches to Jeff and took the cane from the stand. Ignoring his right-hand man’s eye roll at his pride. Seto knew it was stupid not to use the crutches but if Anzu didn’t agree to work for him, he didn’t want to appear too weak. Moving slowly, Seto was surprised by Anzu’s soft gasp at his appearance. He hadn’t thought he still looked that bad. However, Seto had to admit to himself he was, since just walking across the room took forever and left him feeling weak and winded. Slowly sinking into the nearest chair, Seto did his best not to wince or show any sign of pain. Then he took his briefcase that Jeff was holding out before acknowledging Anzu’s presence.
“Thank you for coming. As you can see there was a little accident in the lab that has left me a little banged up. I am going to be very direct with you. With the kidnapping and the accident, my brother Mokuba isn’t doing very well. He is nervous and unhappy. You saved him that time you both were taken by rare hunters. He feels safe around you.” Seto spoke in his usual steady tone until he mentioned Mokuba, then it softened a touch. He couldn’t hide his fondness for his little brother from trained ears.
“I want to hire you to live with us for awhile. A live-in companion if you will. I would also use you as an assistant. We can work out any tasks you are unwilling to do after you read the contract I wrote up. You will have School hours and one day off a week. When summer starts I thought you could take Mokuba to the beach and other places. Would you be willing to consider it?”
Pulling out the contract, Seto leaned forward to hand it to Anzu. Searing pain caused him to pale and his when he felt some of the stitches on his back pull and hot blood began to trickle down his back. He was going to have to get down to the infirmary or wait till someone was available to come up. Ugh! Being wounded was such a hassle. “Jeff would you call…” His man had stepped out to give them privacy. Inwardly sighing as his inability to function at peak performance, Seto returned his attention to Anzu. He saw the concern in her eyes. Not wanting to deal with useless feminine coddling, Seto hurried to start explaining the contract.
“The contract is fairly basic. It’s lengthy from my outlining many of the jobs I thought you might end up doing during your employment. Please cross off anything you are unwilling to do. I would like to be aware of any hard limits you have, so we do not cross any religious or personal boundaries and make things uncomfortable for you. I have also outlined Mokuba’s and my typical schedule so you are aware of the long hours. As I said I am willing to pay you a salary on top of paying your tuition to the school of your choosing. I will also fund all outings you take Mokuba on, meals included. Ms. Mazaki, there is a confidentiality clause. You are not to talk to anyone, including your friends about myself, my company or my brother in detail. I am aware they will ask what is occupying your time. I would prefer you to use discretion when you explain. If word got out I or my brother was compromised in any way it could have repercussions that would hurt my company and those who work for me. If these terms are agreeable, I would like you to start right away.”
Reaching up to stretch his sore neck, Seto’s fingertips came away sticky with blood. Quickly he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped them off. He was going to need rebandaging sooner than later. The bleeding was worse than he thought.
Anzu watched in horror at the condition Kaiba was in when he walked in the room, he was all bruised and battered and he was walking with difficulty while trying to keep a straight face.
Sighing inwardly, she remembered Kaiba was a man that couldn´t show any weakness even if it was in front of her. He was always dead set in maintaining his Ice King title and separating himself from bothersome emotions.
She nodded slowly as he began detailing the conditions and instructions of her duties with Mokuba, all the while her hands were resting on her lap but grabbing at the sides of the fabric of her dress.
It was an interesting offer that was so juicy she couldn ´t resist. Almost at the end of their meeting, her eyes wandered up to meet his, her blue sapphire´s full of concern for him. She noticed he winced as he stretched and slowly rubbed his neck.
“Yes, I underst...” Anzu´s jaw almost dropped when she noticed his bloody fingertips. Without thinking and due to her gentle nature, she stood up quickly and hurried over to him. “Kaiba, you´re hurt badly, you shouldnt even be moving in your condition!” She took out a small light blue handkerchief out of her pocket and began to gently press it over the wound on his neck. “We can´t wait for your doctor to arrive, we need to clean this wound and bandage it properly.”
She turned to Jeff, “Could you please get me a first aid kit? I´m sure you have plenty and I don´t want him to get an infection.”
