She took a step back as if that small stretch of space would ever allow Joslyn to escape with her life. The hunter certainly had a proven reputation to deny any possibility of the werewolf outsmarting her twice. To have slaughtered the entirety of her small pack within the blink of an eye, to know that Joslyn was to blame for leading them all to slaughter. For entrusting the woman who had sheathed her weapons and put on an alluring disposition all to destroy her life and all those she had come to admire. âIââ Her mouth had went dry, fingernails digging into the soft flesh of her palms. With all that Chris had taught her she had never done her part in fully accepting her beastly counterpart. The part that could perhaps save her in moments like these, instead of focusing on obtaining a gun â of becoming Beckâs equal as if she ever had any sort of knowledge of such hunter world at all. âI guess you just keep surprising me,â she sickly breathed out, such wave of nausea rushing over her. It was as if the air had thinned and she was scrambling for that final intake of breath that could help save her damned life.Â
A humorless chuckle graced sharp vocal chords, the hunterâs amusement growing with every stitched nerve that sewed themselves into a rather comical mask of pure terror on Joslynâs face. Like a deer trapped in menacing headlights without any sense of direction towards where to flee; safety didnât exist in Red Creek. "Life might be a little easier if you start expecting the unexpected.â Or in this case, entirely obvious since Beck would never be the kind to allow someone hunted across two different continents to simply slide by without acknowledgement. âYou look nervous, babygirl. Worried I might gut you right out in the open? Donât panic--- I never did like an audience.â Solitude had always been more her style and the dramatics of disemboweling a super in plain view of the whole town were better reserved for the less confident in her trade. As entertaining as it might have been to leave a potent warning to the rest, she preferred a more subtle venture when on her own. âYou still havenât answered the most important question: did you miss me?â
