any tutorials/references u recommend for self-taught artists? my goal is to make fanart and some original stuff. u inspire me a lot :)
HELLO anons and THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS! I think itâs hard to recommend specific tutorials bc I feel like what works for one person might not always work for another, but here are some good general resources I enjoy!!
This pinterest has A LOT of tutorials and references
Andrew Loomisâ books are gorgeous to look at and helpful!
YOUTUBE and gumroad are great resources, you can find a lot of helpful anatomy guides/ tutorials/ process videos on there e.g. proko, this video by steve huston, life drawing stuff etc AND hereâs a list of some tutorials available on Gumroad
FOR Color, Iâve found this site and this site to be really good!
I also really like these tutorials HERE and HERE
AND some other art books Iâve found helpful are Anatomy for sculptors, Steve Hustonâs figure drawing for artists, and michael hamptonâs stuff!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST donât be afraid to use photo references!!! IT WILL REALLY HELP
I hope some of these might give you a place to start!!! FEEL FREE TO DROP ME ANOTHER MESSAGE if you couldnât find what you wanted!!

Momo: Character Rendering for Animation Production 2
A new Gumroad video dealing with taking a flat character design and creating a âlook of pictureâ painting in photoshop. I focus on cloth/ folds and skin. There are 3 videos, the Rendering (1hr 17min), a video on my approach to cloth and folds (1hr), and one on my approach to painting skin (40 min).Â

Do you have any tips to make line art look better, whenever I draw the lines end up looking like I'm making a 2nd draft when I just want clean lines đ§ if not that's okay, anyways how's life going for u?
my lines are actually⊠really messy LMAO but there are some things i do to try and make it look a little better !
draw big + scale down. i usually start with an 8x11Ⳡcanvas and then zoom out to around 25-50% to draw. when it gets resized, the lineart looks smoother and stray pixels are less noticeable
tinker around with the stabilizer/stabilization. if you have a shaky hand, this helps make your strokes less jittery. good rule of thumb is to work in quick, long strokes. if itâs too sketchy, you can always go back and erase the stray lines (tho you can tell i clearly donât lmao)
brush settings matter, at least for me. if it doesnât have the right ~feel~, i have a hard time getting used to it www/// it all depends on what kind of âlookâ youâre going for. if you like clean sharp lines with tapering ends and dynamic line-weight, youâd use the pen tool. if you want to emulate the âtraditionalâ look, youâd use textures. if you like the simplistic/minimal doodle style, youâd use pen tool without pressure-sensitivity. i like my lines soft/sketchy and fading out in opacity (instead of tapering out in size), so i tend to use customized (air)brushes. experiment and play around with the settings to find the right one for you ovo)b
hey no problem !! the DL links seem to work okay for me so i just made a video on how to import the brushes into clipâ hope it helps!!
