( sidarth malhotra, bisexual, cis male + he/him ) welcome to the metrocenter, vincent malloy ! they’re a forty-two year old survivor who has braved the wastes of america to join our little flock. they’ve decided to employ their skills as a counsel member which will help us out tons. from our psych eval we can determine they’re pragmatic, brilliant, and dedicated, but have also been noted to be melancholic, cold, and ruthless. they didn’t have much when they got here, expect for his wedding ring, a picture of his deceased wife, and all four of his children. " In here is a tragedy-- art thou player or audience? Be as it may, the end doth remain: all go on only toward death. "
biotech had once been a company that believed in the greater good. it's original board of founders wanted nothing more than the betterment of mankind, and for years they had accomplished that goal. biotech developed medicine, health foods, transportations, and multiple other services that greatly benefited the united states. for years biotech prospered, and grew connections all across the globe. their roots spread far and wide, eventually tapping into the black market. that evil took hold of the company little by little, like an infected molar. in time that infection spread, corrupting the entire company. vincent malloy was hired after the old board of directors was hired in favor of a younger and more money oriented mind-set. biotech continued their regular operations, but used these as a front to disguise their more insidious plans. vincent, a brilliant scientist specializing in the art of genetic engineering, reveled in the freedom biotech allowed him. his expertise allowed him to be placed in charge of the disease development and research division. he created many diseases, developing their symptoms while also developing cures. though vincent's true goal was discovering a remedy for death itself. vincent did so to save his wife whom had fallen gravely ill after the birth of their youngest child. they had already had three sons in their twenties, making a fourth child unnecessary in the eyes of vincent. but his wife had insisted, and he had a terribly hard time denying her. it was a complicated birth, and his youngest child was born without complication. in fact, she was genetically perfect thanks to vincent's meddling. while he adored his wife he wasn't above using her as a guinea pig without her knowledge. vincent considered that it might have been his own machinations that made her so sick, but the research had been invaluable. his wife's condition worsened over the years, leaving vincent no choice but to develop a cure for death itself. he loved his wife, and couldn't allow her to be taken from him. it was for that reason that the red flu was developed. if he could perfect the virus he could make it so that the human body could live on past its expiration date. initial tests were disastrous, as expected, usually always resulting in a violent death. the red flu showed signs of success when a cadaver injected with the formula began to twitch..only for it to explode in a rotten mess. biotech deemed the virus a failure and ordered vincent to dispose of the entire lot so he could set his focus elsewhere. unwilling to abandon years of research, vincent ordered a lab-assistant to dump the red flu specimens down the drain. he knew what would happen then. the red flu had been made highly-infectious on purpose, transmitted through bodily fluids. if he infected the water of mistwood, he would be able to watch his experiment unfold in real-time. only the red flu never reached the water supply. instead it infected a colony of rats. when months passed with little to no signs of the red flu emerging, vincent had all but given up hope. his wife was on death's door, and it depressed him that even in all of his brilliance, he couldn't save her. but then something miraculous happened. an infected rat had bit a jogger, beginning the apocalypse. vincent watched as the entire world crumbled around him, and while his own children panicked, he thrilled at the chance to further his research. with the help of biotech, he was able to evacuate his family into a bunker beneath the metrocenter mall. his children believe their mother dead, while in actuality she remained in suspended animation in the lab attached to the bunker to which only vincent had access. within the six months it took for the world to end, he worked tirelessly around the clock. but without new test subjects, his experiments came to an end. that was until survivors began to return to the metrocenter.
vincent and his family abandoned the bunker, joining the survivors there. to everybody else he was an unfortunate father who had lost his wife and was now left to raise a family all on his own. if only that were so. vincent was the one who proposed that they set up a counsel to govern the ever growing population of the metrocenter. psych-evals would be performed to make sure nobody infected or dangerous slipped through. those deemed....unfit to join their cause usually vanished never to be seen again. most presume they were devoured by the undead still lurking in mistwood, when in actuality they are transported to vincent's lab where his work continues to this very day. many of the armed men that guard the metrocenter are all that remains of the military force of biotech that did their best to aid in the outbreak. with biotech scattered to the wind, they look toward vincent for leadership and guidance. vincent has maintained a friendly outward appearance, wanting to emulate the original goals of biotech. with his help the metrocenter will flourish, and one day his research will yield gold. ( charlie rowe, homosexual, cis male + he/him ) welcome to the metrocenter, cody “scruffy” collins ! they’re a twenty-eight year old survivor who has braved the wastes of america to join our little flock. they’ve decided to employ their skills as a handyman which will help us out tons. from our psych eval we can determine they’re gregarious, trusting, and eccentric, but have also been noted to be cowardly, childish, and fickle. they didn’t have much when they got here, expect for their uniform from petey possum’s pizzeria, their walkman, and their cat named thomas. " Is not a silence brimming with love more precious than flattery? A peaceful slumber preferred to a throne besmirched with blood. "
Born to parents who made their way throughout the world without rhyme or reason, Cody Collins never developed a sense of belonging. He drifted from one town to the next, hopping from home to home, and couch to couch alongside his parents. It wasn't until the summer of 1987 that they settled in the town of Mistwood. For the first time in his life, Cody had a routine. He fit in easily at school, discovering that he was naturally gregarious, and that people were inclined to listen to him. Yet for all of his popularity, Cody failed to excel in all of his academics. He didn't care for school, and viewed it as oppressive to his creative liberties. He didn't enjoy school, instead finding comfort in music, skateboarding, and his cat thomas. When he dropped out of school neither of his parents had made a fuss. They two had abandoned academics in the pursuit of freedom, and in time they made the painful decision to get back on the road. They had only settled down long enough for Cody to graduate school, and now it was no longer necessary to do so. With tears in his eyes, Cody waved off his parents who decided to spent their fifties in an rv while traveling across the USA.
Like his parents before him, Cody bounced from place to place. He never held down a job for more than two weeks at a time, preferring unbound freedom to the shackles of corporate oppression. It wasn't until Petey's Pizzeria hired him on as a repair tech. Cody had applied as a joke but found that he was surprisingly adapt with technology. When he wasn't busy fiddling with an arcade cabinet, he could be found donning the suit of Petey Possum. While he worked part-time at the pizzeria he also worked at Discboom, a music store within the mall. Cody's parents had left him with a wide and varied taste in music, one that was appreciated by the patrons of Discboom. Between the two jobs he was fully employed and thriving. If only he could contact his parents and let them know, but he had a feeling they could sense his success from hundreds of miles away. Cody was inside of Petey Possum's when the world went to shit. He had watched the panic through the eyes of the mascot suit, and immediately rushed home to save his cat, Thomas. Thomas had been a chubby orange cat he had rescued a few years prior from being euthanized. Without anywhere to go, and not wanting to spend the apocalypse cooped up in his tiny apartment, Cody returned to the mall. That had been a smart decision. The mall was enforced, and zombies lacked the brains to use stairs. Cody took up residence in Discboom where he outfitted the place into a temporary apartment. He had only expected to be there for a few weeks. Six months later he has outiftted the shop with a radio station that he uses to call out to wayward survivors, urging them to head to the Metrocenter for safety. Cody knows what it feels like to be alone and restless. So he uses his voice for the greater good while maintaining good vibes throughout the mall. When he isn't busy performing maintenance throughout the metrocenter he's playing music for its citizens, and urging survivors to travel through hell to safety.
