ok. i had to look this up, because this seems just too ridiculous. and wiki does not disappoint: “… the hognose snake will often roll onto its back and play dead with its mouth open and tongue lolling, going as far as to emit a foul musk from the cloaca. Emission of cloacal musk is considerably less likely than in many other species. I was told recently about a school that was shamed into changing its school motto. The motto was “I hear, I see, I learn.” Nothing wrong with that per se. Unfortunately the motto was in Latin, and the Latin for “I hear, I see, I learn” is “audio, video, disco”.

having the ‘arthur was actually jealous because of lewis’ theory in mind, i rewatched the first two videos and noticed some things.

initially we assumed this was arthur looking resentfully at lewis because he was in love with vivi. but in different context, it could be longing. after all, arthur doesn’t pay special attention to vivi whatsoever in any of the videos. he’s only fixated on lewis, both in the past and present.

this one could just be for comedic purposes, but i thought it was interesting that arthur latched on to lewis specifically.

from lewis’ heart comes three flowers - his own, vivi’s, and arthur’s. i’m not quite sure what it means, but it’s notable that arthur is here as well, not just vivi.

arthur’s primary purpose is to find lewis. if every look he had given him was scorn, he wouldn’t have been trying so hard to find him. if he was truly jealous of lewis/vivi’s relationship in order to pursue vivi, he would have done something by now. he could have paid special attention to her visually or made any romantic indication, especially since vivi’s memory of lewis had been erased. but throughout these three videos, he’s pretty much treated her as equally as he does mystery, just a close friend. again, only lewis is on his mind.

now, onward to hellbent!

while it might seem like arthur is averting eyes from vivi facing him, vivi’s eyes are too centered to be looking at arthur. rather, she’s waving at lewis in the background, and arthur is looking at him as well. this is similar to the first flashback in ‘ghost’, where arthur is looking at lewis somewhat shamefully. again, when they could’ve had a flashback of arthur having a crush on vivi, we instead see him looking at lewis.

another thing to note here is that vivi isn’t centered in this shot. lewis is. if you removed vivi entirely, the framing would still work, making lewis the focal point.

this is just my personal take on things. while it doesn’t guarantee that it was the intention of mystery skulls for arthur to pine after lewis, it’s certainly possible.
