WHAT LEVITICUS IS ACTUALLY SAYING
And no, it's not about homosexuality.
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."
"If any man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death, their blood is upon them."
Let me start by saying I've been on both sides of this battle. I've been going to church for as long as I can remember, and am a proud Christian. However, I'm also part of the LGBT+ community. So when I say what I'm about to say, it's because I know Christians have been getting it wrong for a long, long time.
In the ancient Hebrew text, the original text, "man" and "male" do not mean the exact same thing. "Man" is used to define a male person who may own property, have a spouse, and is of age to do these things and other similar things. "Male" simply means someone who is too young to partake in that. The Bible doesn't condemn homosexuality, it condemns pedophilia.
But wait! If it were really that simple to explain, why haven't the big name churches and Christian leaders around the world just said it? Well, there's plenty of possibilities.
That they're too afraid to admit when they're wrong
That this gives the religion a common antagonist other than the Devil (i.e. something physically present).
For the same reason we thought enslaving those with a different skin color was right, and justified by our religious text.
So if you're LGBT+, keep being you because even ADONAI HIMSELF IS COOL WITH YOU AND LOVES THAT YOU'RE FINDING LOVE. DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE.
