if todd, like amanda, has the ability to see visions during his pararibulitis attacks when they're mitigated by holistics such as the rowdy 3, that puts his first attack in s1 in a whole new context. i do wonder if long-term he and amanda could have learned to use their attacks together. after all, his pararibulitis is a gift from the universe because it is literally the only thing that possibly could have salvaged his relationship with amanda.
it comes to him mere days after he allowed the holistic nature of the universe into his life, too. if todd had developed pararibulitis at any point before confessing the truth to amanda, or before he found meaning in life again, or before amanda found the rowdy 3 ... it would have been a much darker story. because todd would have seen it as a punishment still, but he wouldn't have bothered to try living his life with that punishment in tow.
either way, i think that pararibulitis being a punishment for todd is a vast oversimplification of why, narratively, he develops it. todd sees it as a punishment he deserves. and that also makes it a gift, because it alleviates his guilt. dirk sees it as something he did to todd, and therefore as a punishment against him. but it's not about dirk, or even todd. it's about the universe reflecting, refracting, mirroring, balancing in a thousand small ways.
