The sniffle caught Snowâs attention. Had the reaper been in itâs normal⌠suit, he surely would have smiled at seeing Roxy. Scratch that (no pun intended); beamed. Instead the cats pupils grew wide and Snow could feel a rumbling purr ignite between the felineâs thin ribs. He meowed back, a sweet ringâmore of an accident as the pair spoke cat at each other. It wasnât exactly something they wouldnât do while Snow filled a human body either. Rising up on his toes, Snow nudged into the hand, flattered by her multilingual compliments. There wasnât a chance sheâd recognize him, yet Snow still wondered. He also considered Roxannaâs health. Sheâd helped him, and now⌠what good was he?
Snow swirled around Roxyâs ankles and meowed once more.
She contained a squeal as the cat swirled around her ankles. Did strays usually do this? Was this meant to be? Moving her bags to her left arm, she patted the cat on itâs head before picking him up. âIf you are lost, weâll find your home. But for now, Iâll make sure youâre safe and well feed. Shall we buy you treats?â And though she knew she shouldnât kiss, or really touch, a cat on the street, she felt that she could. So she did. She kissed itâs little pink nose and began to walk. âWe can stop by the store, get you a few things, then you can keep me company at home. What  do you think? Do you like that idea?â Speaking to a cat? One step towards her main goal: Becoming a cat lady. âMeow, meow, meow~â Roxanna kissed his ear.
A trip to the store and a walk home later, Roxy found herself in her kitchen with a kitty cat on the counter. Super unsanitary, but the cat was cute. She had a bowl filled with treats and she continued to stroke his fur as her soup cooked. âYou look like a little angel... Like a snow angel.â
Snow was concerned but also a touched revived now that his form filled a new, healthy body. The world looked entirely different from a catâs perspective. Only standing a foot tall off of the ground at best. Without the broad frame, limited senses, and vile illness he felt more alert. To have control was essential. The reaper would allow itself to miss the prized human vessel later.
Lonely as ever, the silent feline wandered the quiet streets to take in the current state of things, his friends and in search of company.
Sniffling as she went, Roxy had left the warmth of her home to buy some more chicken noodle soup. At least she wasnât bleeding from her eyes. The dancer stopped to take out a tissue from her pocket and blow her nose when she saw the most precious cat. It was pure white, a pink little nose and pink ears. âAwe, kitty kitty,â she meowed twice, laughing as she did so. âEstas hermoso, gatito lindo,â she cooed in Spanish as she went down to one knee to caress behind itâs ear. âDid you get lost?â

In the Night || Selfpara
It was a little past one in the morning. The sky was pitch black; not even a twinkle from a lone star, and clouds covered up the moonâs light. With the curfew still in place, it meant that most night-time establishments had been closed hours ago. It also meant that the town was deserted. No one dared try their luck outside, not with the illness spreading around, and especially not with important figures getting assassinated. This, and other reasons, were why the dancer had gone to sleep at a quarter to eleven.
Unfortunately for her, at exactly 1:28 Roxanna sat upright, her eyes opening slowly. Without much ruckus, she slipped out of bed and then out the door in her cotton shorts, soft tee, and nothing else. Perhaps it was a good thing the town was so lonely at this hour, no one saw her, no one asked questions. Even if someone had, the half banshee would not have answered. With her glazed over eyes, she was only out of bed for one reason.
They were calling her. Tugging at her very soul. Voices murmuring, wailings her in the distance. And if she would have had any control and focused, she would be able to hear her name being called. She would have heard it be whispered; gently, lovingly. It would have warmed her, because though she had never heard her voice, she would have known.
The sensation of rocks digging into bare feet was unfelt. A branch scrapping her arm did not sting. The bark of a fallen tree did not burn. Because nothing else mattered, only that she had to get to the clearing. A clearing that was in the middle of the forested area, and if she would just take a left just up thereâŚ
Being a supernatural did not come with a manual, most things just came naturally. Which was why she knew to stand in the middle, shut her eyes, tilt her head towards the black sky and let out a loud lament. Funny how her throat had been acting up the past few days, and now it was as if nothing was wrong. The voices from earlier got louder with her, until all she could hear was her own voice. She was no longer wailing, but screaming. Once she had learned the truth of what she was, she had read all the folklore there was to banshees. According to many, the cries from a banshee always meant death was near. They were predicting. They were calling.
Moments later, the spell she had been under was lifted and she crashed to the ground. Just like when she had been a little girl, she stayed there; head in an awkward position, legs sprawled out, arm underneath her body. The only difference now was that her father wasnât the one to wake her up and tell her she had been sleep walking. Instead, the sounds of nature woke her up. She groaned and stretched and frowned as she took in her surroundings.
Of course she knew what it meant, and it frightened her. Death would claim someone from Klamenth Falls and she wouldnât be able to stop it.
Kick his ass.            No doubt.

Roxanna was the voice of reason in the reaperâs state of panic. Heâd walked off a fever and sniffles in the past, cuts and bruises, but this blood was different. It wondered if the body was going blind. No. No. It couldnât stand this damned human sleeve, yet refused to abandon the thing. Roxanna couldnât see itâs true self. The reaper knew how terrifying it appeared. There was a chance Roxy would feel differently than most, butâŚ
âWater.â It repeated almost with a slight gasp. âThereâs water inside.â Perhaps relieving the fevered skin would make a difference.
She placed her hand over his for a moment before scrambling upwards and running inside. In her haste to get to Snow, she had completely forgotten to bring her own unopened water bottle. She searched and searched until she found a mini fridge filled with water, the same brand Morgan had given her. Before she could take Snow one, she went into a coughing fit. She grabbed a second bottle and made her way back outside. âAmor, shouldnât you be inside?â Roxy frowned to herself, she should have paid more attention to the news. âWe could go back inside the shop, or I can help get you home, or to mine, or to the mayors?â The dancer uncapped his bottle and handed it to him before he could answer.

It was silly to sit in such a position, waiting for a rescuer, a deliverer. Snow had always stood on the opposite side. He hated this. He continued to believe that a simple hand could carry him through this moment of weakness. There was no need for drastic measures. Honestly, Snow was frightened. Out of his element in every way. By the time Roxy arrived, his vision was hazy and the hold on the body failing. Black odorless smoke surrounded him. He sniffed and brought the towel to his lips and nose again. In case it ran.
He recognized her by voice, âS⌠stay backâŚâ Snow wasnât aware of Roxannaâs condition. Somehow, the reaper managed to shake the vesselâs downcast head. With a muffled and numbed mouth, Snow spoke with his true voice. Deeper and distant from where the body lay. âI donât want to go. I donât need to.â
The only time Snow stood in a hospital was as a reaper, not while in his vulnerable human form. People died at hospitals⌠âThere has to be another way.â
To anybody else, in any other situation, Roxanna was sure they would find that booming voice coming from literally nowhere, scary. And perhaps she should be frightened. But she couldnât help but find comfort in that voice. Odd in so many ways, and yet it made sense. There was a part of her, deep down in her bones, that could sense death. No wonder she took an instant liking to Snow.Â
What was unnerving though, was the smoke that surrounded him. Fanning it slightly away, she slid down the wall and sat on the cement. She sniffled slightly âUhm.. We could get you clean water?â She gave his leg a small pat. âTell me what you need and Iâll bring it...â Roxy hadnât even realized Snow could get sick... Whatever this disease was, was quiet powerful. If someone like him could become so ill, what hope did the rest of them have?
Without work, Snow had nothing to keep his mind off of real problems. The cursed lake, Senator Devenâs assassination, the fate of his mortal lover who stood at the very center of it all. He felt an increasing fever days ago. The summer heat did the reaper no favors. A mind and body constructed of pure lead. Snow wished to escape. It was all too heavy to carry further.
Appointments were cancelled. Snow came to work every day to care after managerial duties. Hide in his corner studio and draw till the day was over. He stayed hydrated, washed often, which were already practiced habits. No one would get ill because of knowing him. The fever would pass as they tend to.
He felt an itch and pulled a bud to the iphone from his ear to scratch. When the hand landed curled over his work again, the scarlet color made sharp contrast from the white sketch paper and graphite. Snow opened his eyes to focus and awake from the numbed artist state. Thatâs when a drip of crimson splattered on the page beside his stained knuckle.
The buds were tugged from Snowâs ears and he cupped both mouth and nose with the red hand while turning toward his mirror meant for customers. His eyes were bloodshot and the stream from his ear began to run down his throat.
Snow made a purposeful stride out the back door of Sorry Mom Tattoo and wiped a black hand towel over nose and ears. Knocking his head back, it didnât take long for the veins to clot but the reaper was still gasping quietly. He heard the vesselâs heart beat in his ears, felt it between his eyes. Scrambling for the phone, only when holding it before him did Snow realize he was shaking like a leaf.
John, Kennedy, Roxy, the names were the first to strike him. Help.
Help.
âSomethingâs wrong. Call or meet me out back of SMT.â He wrote this and had faith the mutual on the other side would understand quite clear.
Looking at the screen of her other phone, the outdated Nokia that didnât even allow her to download Bejewled, she wondered how exactly she should answer. Roxanna could answer âHow are things?â in so many ways. She could say she was feeling the affects of the fever, that she wasnât close at all to understanding the works going on at Masion, that it was literally frightening having a curfew and jumping at those bumps in the night. The dancer was saved from answering when another text came in on her iphone. Snow with a little snowflake popped up. And though she had to read the message twice, she popped out of bed in a flash. The message from her boss had been sent days ago, what was another couple of hours without answering?Â
Not caring about the attire she was in, sweatpants and an old Enrique Iglesias concert tee, she rushed towards her friendâs establishment. Roxy rounded the corner and skidded to a stop before she could run into Snow. âI made it..â She paused to gulp in air âas fast as I could.â Her eyes instantly went to the red line along his neck. They were told not to touch bodily fluids and yet... She pulled out a tissue from her pocket and walked forward to dab at his skin. âDo I need to take you to the hospital?â
Undress me with your eyes, Youâre in for a surprise

âAh!â He gasped. Somehow, his senses had let him down and Kid failed to notice the faint jog coming from behind before contact. It had been that was for awhile now. Kid was distracted⌠âO-oh, hey!â The wolf pushed out a laugh and gripped his chest before letting out a heavy breath. âYou scared the crap out of me.â
She quickly gave the side of his face a kiss before sliding down his back and onto the ground. âSorry..â Roxy said, a smile on her lips. Though she was sorry, it was only a little bit. Especially since she hadnât seen her friend in what felt like a long time. âYou okay Kid?â She asked, her hand on his shoulder.

Alisa looked her up and down as she rested her arms on the bar in front of her. âWell Iâm not a fan of being hot myself, hence why I keep it nice and cool in here, that and itâs better for the customers. I donât see what the harm could be.âShe said as she pushed herself away from the bar and out towards the table and chairs. âSo this someone,is it a friend or a date sort thing.â
Roxy grinned and made sure she was not in the other womanâs way. It wouldnât do to disturb her while she tried to work. âOhhhh, no. Not a date,â the dancer couldnât help but laugh. âJust a friend. We had some catching up to do.â Roxanna watched the other for a moment before walking over to her âDo you need any help?â
âWe brought in two truck loads of bottled water at Peopleâs Grocery, itâs free of charge per household. Get your hands on a pack to keep for the week.â
Letting out a huff, she leaned against the closest building. God, who knew getting out of bed could be so tiring? âReally? Thatâd be great, thanks.â The dancer eyed the bottled water warily. âWhereâs it from exactly?â she croaked out. Funny how only two days ago she was perfectly fine and now.. Well now, she probably should have stayed in bed.Â
