The ampersand used to be the 27th letter of the alphabet. To avoid confusion with the word âandâ, people added âper seâ before its name when reciting the alphabet so that it ended: X, Y, Z, and per se &.Â
Over time, the âand per se andâ ran together, and the term âampersandâ was born.Â

Thought: I do NOT think that 50% of the worldâs billionaires should be women. I think there shouldnât be any billionaires at all.
So you are saying 0% of the world should be billionaires?
Why shouldnât their be billionaires? That makes no sense.
Because the existence of billionaires is predicated on the exploitation of human labor and unsustainable environmental harm. That level of wealth hoarding is harmful to economies, as it reduces the amount of money in circulation. No one person, no family, could ever conceivably even SPEND a billion dollars anyway, and it is inherently immoral to accumulate wealth so narrowly while so much of the world lives in abject poverty. Â
Better then to create a wealth ceiling, a point at which all wealth over a certain point is taxed at or very near 100% to incentivize people to actually spend their money rather than hoard it, stimulating the economy and bettering the lives of far more people. Better even still to create and regulate economic systems that protect workers and the environment in a way that such extreme levels of wealth accumulation arenât even feasible.Â
The problem with this is that it reduces the incentive to actually do fiscally well. Whatâs the point of starting a business if you canât become wealthy?
There is a very real difference between âreasonably wealthyâ and A BILLIONAIRE
No one is saying you shouldnât have a nice house, we are saying that having multiple really, really ridiculously nice houses while your employees are either homeless or at serious risk of becoming homeless is immoral.
Iâll never understand why this concept is hard for people. I think itâs because they canât actually fathom how much $1 Billion is.
Seriously.
Letâs say you have a badass job. A great job. You make $100 AN HOUR. You work 10 hours a day ($1000 A DAY), 5 days a week ($5000 a week!!!), every week ($20,000 A MONTH), thats $240,000 Every Year.
It would take you 4,167 years to make a billion dollars.
God dammit
If you were making, for the sake of argument, $25 million a year, you could live a life of extreme luxury. Even then, it would take you forty years of spending none of that money to amass a single billion. There are multi-billionaires out there. No one needs that kind of money.
Currency came into existence to simplify trade. It was meant to make things easier and better for society. When a single person has more than they need, even more than they would need for an extravagant lifestyle, theyâd completely unreasonable. Money isnât meant to be hoarded for status. I honestly think billionaires are addicted to money.
So just a quick rant because I had to put my family on blast for their "thanks to god" statement they made. First of all, I'm an atheist, I have no religion, it is my opinion/belief that every religion is wrong for my thoughts that there is no higher power or deity that grants miracles and hears prayers. I do however think that you can gain good moral and principle values from all religious scriptures. Anyway, to the story, my cousin was talking about how she almost did a prison sentence that could have 25years to life. However, the day of her trial, the arresting officer to testify against her was arrested for molesting his adopted daughter and it was found out that she was not the only child to be molested against him. So she was able to be freed with a 10 year probation. She stated that it was all "god" and my grandmother stated that "god is good". I held my tongue many times regarding my disagreement with then but this one I had to speak out and it was my house anyway. So I said "but something bad had to happen to little children in order for my cousin to have that blessing from god to not go to jail". My grandmother was saying that God was still good and I restated "but the man had to do something bad to someone else in order for something good to happen to another so i dont see any good in that".
