I will marry when I am damn well ready, thank you. So far,the lot of lords that have come scrabbling after my hand has just been so far under desirable. You simply wouldnot believe it. I fear I will beunwed forever. Shame, that.

Medea: What’s the worst thing you’ve ever doneout of spite?

On my twelfth nameday, one of my invitees wore a prettierdress than I. She was two years older, but I was so affronted that I arrangedfor her dress to “accidentally” get set on fire. She did not come to harm, butthe dress was ruined.

My sixteenth nameday, a “gift” a neighboring lord I’d beenspending time with thought a proposal would be an excellent gift. I told himthat it was my nameday, not his, andwas not in the habit of giving others a gifts on this day. It was an affront,and, naturally, I turned him down flat.

Hephaestus: Are you particularly skilled at anycrafts? If so, which?

Sculpting, believe it or not. When I was younger, I wouldoften play with clay, mud, anything I could wrangle a shape out of. I ruinedmany a fine dress because of this. There’s something calming about digging into something, and being able to shape it with your own two hands, and gettingdirty in the process. No matter how careful you are, there’s always amess. I don’t do it as often as I wouldlike. My advisors try to keep me quite busy, and it does do awful things to the nails. My advisors seem to care aboutthat more than I do. And my nail girl. I swear she could have shit a clay brickherself the first time she saw my hands after a project.

Hermes: Where would you most like to go, orwhere is your favourite place to be?

I’ve always wanted to go to a carnival unattended, alone, toexperience it as a “normal” person would. I’ve been to a few, but the royalvisits get their own day, closed to the public. I’m forced to visit with a retinueof ladies-in-waiting, guards, and whatever lord trying to win my favor, allgrumbling about the filth and foolishness of it all.

Hestia: Where do you feel most at home?

My flower garden, late spring, with a warm sun, a coolbreeze, and a seat next to the fountain.

Repercussions? Of course. How could one not? Everybody hasthem. What, you want to know about them? Oh dear, I think not.

Yes. I feel I do not deserve to be punished by this stringof proposed marriages that I do not want simply because I am a woman and awoman must have a man in order to beworth anything.

✚ -Prized Possession

A large hand-mirror, made of white gold, detailed with small rosebuds and leaves, delicately winding around the handle and the edges that held the glass in place. It was outdated by the fashions of young women her age, being both larger and heavier. It also lacked the popular hand-painted scene that adorned the backs or most of them. Amalia, however, liked it. It was once her mother's. Some of the princess' earliest memories were of her mother sitting at her vanity, mirror in hand, dressing up for the day. The mirror still smelled faintly of the fragrance her mother used to wear.

✿ -A happy memory

The first time she and Nar had decided to make their own adventure outside the castle walls. She couldn't even remember how the pair of them had managed to sneak out without being seen, but she remembered being out on the streets in clothes she had stolen from the children of one of their maids. The whole experience had been frightening, exciting, upsetting, and wonderful. Most of all, it had changed her perspective on a lot of things. People weren't polite, but they were real. They had zero of the courtesy she was used to being showed, and some other child even had the nerve to throw mud at her. She still smiled at the memory of Nar chasing down the culprit and completely smothering the boy in mud head to toe.

➷ -Sports

Amalia kept a certain appearance to the public where physical activity was involved. Being a highborn lady, men and women alike expected her to be beautiful, modest, and picture perfect. She was allowed to express interest in sports, but never to participate in any of the more aggressive ones. Sweat was unseemly and should never be upon a noble lady's brow.

The leisurely sports, such as croquet, were played when important people came to visit, though she was never any good at them. That also seemed to be expected of her.

There was only so much "properness" one woman could take, however. When she was safely hidden behind her walls, she threw herself in to her weapons training three times a week. She would sweat as much as she could and gloried in it. Amalia liked sweat, and not just on herself.

♆ -Something hated

Amalia hated her suitors. Every single one of them were presumptuous and boring, and wanted the title of prince so that they could rule her city themselves. Who were these men who thought themselves so worthy of her hand and her rule just because they were of noble birth? Not a single one was worth her time.

✄ -Favorite play

Amalia loved comedies. She loved to go to the theater to have a laugh. She shunned romances, which her suitors always brought her to, as if such things would put her in the mood to say yes to a marriage proposal.

Tragedies also made her laugh.

ϡ -Sleep

Amalia loved to sleep. Everything about it was bliss. In her dreams, she could go anywhere, do anything, be who she wanted. Not that her waking life was so awful as to want to wallow in misery or anything, but it was just so full of duties and obligations. Just thinking about it made her wrinkle her long, slender nose.

And of course there was her bed. It was always perfect. It was the best that money could possibly buy. So soft she could be floating in clouds. She had the sleekest sheets, the fluffiest pillows, blankets for all kinds of weather.

Yes, sleep was wonderful, and she always put up the biggest fight when her advisers came to rouse her.

☂ -Weather

Cool breezes, a warm sun, the air crisp from a night's rain. Spring was Amalia's favorite time of year. The world was breaking away from the oppressive cold winter had forced upon it. It was coming back to life in such a hopeful way, in a dazzling array of colors and smells. Winter clothes were put away, the thick-knit gown, shawls, and cloaks tossed in favor of the light, flowing dresses and delicate slippers meant for a day of lounging in the gardens. When spring sprung, Amalia flourished. She never wanted those perfect days to end.
