@voiddxd no Mom status until you take care of yourself. Can’t be the Mom Gaster unless you are responsible.
> SUCK MY ASS, THE MAJORITY OF US CAN’T TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES.
Yeah, that’s the problem. That’s why most of us can’t be Mom friend. Duh.

The child smiled widely, excited that he was actually able to understand the other entirely. “THAT’S MY FONT, TOO! I’M WINGDING! NO ONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS IT, THOUGH, SO I USUALLY JUST USE ASTER …” Except for Chekilli. Chekilli had learned wingdings after creating him. And it was always easier to speak in wingdings than aster. It flowed much more.
“… IF WINGDINGS IS YOUR FONT, THOUGH, HOW COME YOUR NAME IS GASTER?” That confused him. Skeletons were named after their fonts, after all, so if wingdings was the font that he naturally spoke in, then shouldn’t his name be Wingdings as well?
Another Wing Dings even? This was so cool! “MY FAMILY UNDERSTOOD ME BUT MOST SKELETONS THAT DIDN’T SPEAK IN A SIMILAR FONT HAD NO CLUE WHAT I WAS SAYING. IT’S WONDERFUL TO MEET ANOTHER WING DINGS FONT LIKE MYSELF.”
“OH! MY FULL NAME IS WING DINGS ASTER BUT A FRIEND SUGGESTED GASTER AS A MIX OF WING DINGS AND ASTER BECAUSE I INSISTED ON THE FULL NAME. IT WAS A GOOD COMPROMISE AND IT GREW ON ME SO I USE IT QUITE FREQUENTLY NOW.”

Wincing at the barrage of questions, Nox did his best to follow. The fog around his mind was thinning a little now that he had something to focus on, but he was still a little disoriented. Hemming and hawing, he pieced together the few questions he caught together with the appropriate answers.
“I’m Nox.” he said, almost unsure of the answer. Another name whispered at the back of his mind, but it didn’t feel quite right. “I’m a nightmare. I don’t know how I got here, but I don’t think it’s good for me to be here long. I’m starving, and there’s nothing to eat here.”
“Well there’s both nothing and everything technically! But that can’t be anything of substance to a person that is actually a person like you. You have a buncha certainties that the void wouldn’t agree with. Maybe you should go get a food thing and then once you aren’t hungry you can come back! You would come back right? If you could that is. Most can’t but that’s okay. If you can’t I won’t be mad, the void just acts like that sometimes so it will be okay!”

Wingding frowned, trying to understand what the other was saying. He understood the first two words, but the third one … As he was trying to figure out what was being said, he heard the single sentence in wingdings and perked up, switching to the font himself and excitedly asking, “YOU KNOW WINGDINGS?!”
He hadn’t met a skeleton who already knew wingdings, and it was a huge relief to him, given he could barely understand the other font that was being used. But if he was fluent in wingdings then they could actually communicate!
“YES I DO!” Another skeleton that knew his font? He was really smiling now. “IT’S THE FONT I NATURALLY SPEAK IN BUT I KNOW NOT ALL SKELETONS UNDERSTAND IT. ASTER WAS MY MOTHER’S FONT AND IT’S POSSIBLE FOR ME TO SPEAK IN, JUST VERY TRYING.” This was the best place the void had decided to put him in ages!
“MY NAME IS GASTER, MAY I ASK YOURS?”

To have those dislocated hands floating over to assist her in taking out the guard was more than a little unnerving for the mage, but she had little time to think about it as she felt the guard’s struggles grow weaker. He stopped attempting to drag her off of him, instead swinging for the monster, wasting energy and breath.
Eventually the heavy weight of the guard started to sink down, nearly dragging Alexandria down with him as he collapsed, given how tightly her hands had the rawhide wrapped around them. Still, she managed to shake her hands free of the binding, breathing heavily as she looked over at the skeleton who had assisted her.
“It… it’s now or never,” she said, bending down to pat down the guard, looking for whatever keys he had used to enter the cell. “I’m sure he won’t remain missing for long. Now’s our chance.”
She had no idea if he could still understand her or not, but she gestured urgently to the door once she managed to find what she was looking for, drawing the tattered hood back up over her head and moving to the door as she waited for the Monster to join her.
He nodded, sure than anything he said now would be unintelligible until he had a few seconds to catch his breath and recast his translation spell. As he stood up the hands floated back over to him and he reattached them, going to stand next to the mage with a nod. He was ready to... maybe not run. He wasn’t sure he could manage that much but he could surely walk at a brisk pace.
He didn’t have much of anything to conceal himself, just his tattered tunic he was thrown in the cell with. He would have to rely on her abilities to cloak them both.
☹☜❄🕯︎💧 ☝⚐📬︎ He knew she wouldn’t understand but the tone hopefully conveyed he was ready.
Howdy!

The adept’s heart felt lodged in her throat as she did her best to pretend to still be bound, flinching away with a whimper at the guard’s suggestion that clearly the reason she hadn’t been killed yet was that they hadn’t been starving the Monster enough. She kept her head lowered, letting her hair cover her face, and in general tried to appear as a terrified weakling.
Seemingly it worked, since the guard barely paid her any mind. It certainly made the skeleton’s distraction all the more significant, since the guard had fully turned his back to her to face the source of the strange noises.
Honestly it caught Alexandria a little off guard as well, the strange noises coming from the Monster startling her at first even though she’d been prepared for it. Still she forced herself to shake it off, grabbing the rawhide cord and wrapping the ends around both hands swiftly.
She wasn’t able to understand the call to action, of course, but perhaps some of the sentiment managed to cross the language divide, as she leaped into action. Quite literally, in fact, as she had to jump a little to manage to get the cord up and over the unsuspecting guard’s head. Of course, there was no disguising the rapid shuffling of her feet, nor the sight of the cord and her hands coming down in front of the guard’s face, but both her weight and gravity assisted in attempting to garrote the guard, choking off his air supply immediately.
She clung on to the cord desperately, ignoring the way it dug into her own skin on her palms as the guard tried to struggle, hanging on for dear life as her slighter frame was dragged around by the enemy’s frantic movements.
Once the mage jumped into action he did as well. First popping both hands free in quick succession. They floated to her aid, tugging on the cord as well.
Gaster stood up and made himself an obvious target in the hopes that he would still make a decent distraction. It worked to some extent, the guard aimed his punches forward instead of trying to grapple the mage off his back. Perhaps it was the confusion of it all that kept him from doing the rational thing and taking care of the immediate threat. Perhaps fear of monsters was really that high in the general population. Or maybe, just maybe he thought that human was still backed up against the wall in fear and this was all his doing. They could only be so lucky.
The guard got two swings in, the first Gaster was able to dodge just barely. The second caught him squarely on the shoulder and he stumbled backwards. But that was all the guard could muster before he started to lose consciousness. Gaster tugged as tightly as he could with what strength he had left as the guard went down. collapsing to the floor in a heap.

Nox nods slowly, trying to navigate the barrage of seeming nonsense being hurled at him. The gnawing hunger that has been clouding his thoughts doesn’t help matters much either. By god, he was just so hungry.
“That sounds… Confusing.”
“Oh it is! But enough about me! What about you? Who are you? What are you? How did you come here?” He inquired curiously. “What do you like to do for fun? Fun is something I can always use more of here!”

Wingding looked toward the sound of the other coming through the underbrush, hope rising up inside him. He wasn’t sure what exactly was causing it other than something relatively big, but if it was someone from his village or another one, then they could help him get back home. If it was an animal, then maybe it’d be one that could lead him home, like some stories he’d heard about. Not that he wasn’t aware that it could very well be something hostile, too.
When it turned out to be a skeleton monster, relief flooded through him. Monsters were always good, so even though this one was a stranger, he already felt safer. Plus he was a skeleton monster like himself, which already made him feel a tiny bit closer to him.
… Except it sounded like he spoke English, and Wingding was really only able to understand the first word that he’d said. He hoped the other knew Muscogee, because he doubted he’d know wingdings.
“… HELLO,” he replied in an accented aster font.
“ARE Y-YOU LOST?” Gaster asked, concern evident in his expression. It was hard to continue speaking in such a strange accent to him. What he would give for a simple translation spell right now.
“I CAN ☟︎☜︎☹︎🏱︎✍︎ H-HELP?” So his speech was not the best but the message was probably clear enough to get across. He tried for a friendly smile, but he wasn’t sure exactly how anything was being received.
He hadn’t talked to another skeleton in centuries after all...

The mage simply shook her head. “There is nothing to forgive. You would not have known. Should this plan succeed and we make it out alive, then perhaps I will tell you in greater detail what I am capable of.”
It was a relief to know that the magic dampening area seemed limited to the cell. When she was brought in, she was in too much pain to notice when exactly she stopped feeling the ability to use magic. Though… it was still going to be difficult concentrating enough through her injuries to work her magic even outside the confines of the cell, but she had little choice.
Alexandria frowned a little, however, at hearing that there would be a period of time where they couldn’t communicate. “I… see. I suppose we shall have to make due with gestures until then. I… shall try to not be alarmed.”
Any more that she had been about to say was cut off as the sound of heavy boots striking the stone floors of the dungeon they were in echoed through the hall. Heart beating rapidly, the mage nodded, using her hands briefly to draw her tangled hair over her face a little to hide it from view, before forcing her hands behind her back, trying to keep them out of sight so the fact that they were no longer bound wasn’t obvious.
Her muscles were tense as she heard the jangle of keys and the muttering of an annoyed male voice, and prayed to whatever deity was listening that this plan would work.
The guard came in with a meager piece of bread and a small bowl with water in it. “Still haven’t killed her?” He asked, dropping the tray on the floor with a sneer. Most of the water spilled out and the bread rolled around the dirty floor. “Perhaps we are feeding you too well. It matters not, in time-”
“❄︎☟︎☜︎☼︎☜︎ ✋︎💧︎ ☠︎⚐︎ ❄︎✋︎💣︎☜︎.”
The language to someone that couldn’t understand it was unlike anything else, harsh and startling, certainly full of sounds no human alive could ever make.
“What the...”
Now was the chance, the guard was distracted.
