Courtney coughed, her lungs burning as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was pulled away from her face in a ponytail that tickled her neck, she wore a sweatshirt of emerald color, and her glasses were perched on the bridge of her nose. She rolled her eyes, grabbing her phone off of her bed and texting Adore, who had basically begged her for some extra studying before finals.
courtney: hey, are you leaving?
Adoreâs reply took a few minutes, but Courtney used that time to gather up her books and notebooks, shoving a few pencils into the side pocket of her bag.Â
adore: yeah, see you at the library in 10?
courtney: yeah.Â
Courtney slipped the backpack on, coughing yet again as she reached to leave her dorm room. She tossed her head back, groaned and then sighed. Fuck this cold, she thought. She slumped outside, locking her door and beginning her commute to the library. She ran into several people along the way, waving politely and saying her hellos.Â
When she reached the library, she selected a table far off from the other clumps of study groups, setting her books down and getting out her phone.
courtney: here. where are you?Â
Adore answered her question with appearing from behind a bookshelf, two coffees in her hand. Courtney smiled, not realizing how she had been longing for caffeine since she had awoken.Â
âI hope you like salted caramel!â Adore said as she sat down the two plastic cups, slipping her backpack off of her shoulders and onto the table. She took out her books, titles like Essentials to Music Composition and A Guide to Music Theory. Courtney took off her glasses, pinching her nose. Fuckinâ headaches, she thought.
âOh!â Courtney looked up at Adore, who was staring at the glasses she was presently holding. âI didnât know you wore glasses?â Adore seemed perplexed.
âDidnât you notice them when you came in?â Courtney asked, pulling out her chair and seating herself.
âNo, I wasnât paying attention.â Courtney put her glasses back on, her face turning just a slight pink at Adoreâs staring.Â
âIâm sick and didnât wanna fuck with contacts.â Courtney said, pulling at the books Adore had sat down to flip through the pages. Adore slowly sat, her elbow resting on the table and her hand holding up her face.Â
âIf you had told me you were sick I wouldâve studied by myselfâŠâ Adore trailed off, her eyes still staring at the glasses Courtney wore.
âNo! No, no, no, itâs fine!â Courtney didnât miss how Adoreâs eyes trailed to her lips but snapped back to her eyes when she began talking.
Courtney fumbled with the pencils stuck in her bagâs pocket, throwing them on the table along with a few highlighters. âUhâŠâ She gave a slight cough. âLetâs talk music theory!â Â
-
âDo you think you have it?â Courtney asked, causing Adore to snap out of her thoughts. She knew all of the material, but couldnât help herself from texting Courtney for some more âstudy timeâ. All she really wanted was to be in the same room as the blonde, just to admire her. She always raised her brows slightly when she began explaining something in depth, and the glasses she had on would slightly dip down her nose when she leaned forward to run her finger along a line of text in the book that Adore had been assigned. She would play with the fabric of her sweatshirt as Adore wrote notes she had written at least a million times before.
âYep! Want to head out?â Adore asked, already putting away her stuff, grabbing the two empty cups and throwing them in the trash that was placed conveniently behind the table. The two stood up, noticing the almost empty library. Courtney smiled at Adore, throwing her backpack on and gesturing to the door. Adore smiled back, slinging her own bag on.Â
They walked past the library doors together, Courtney reassuring Adore that she would do fine on her test and to not work herself up over it. When it was time for them to walk to their separate vehicles, they lingered for a silent moment. Courtney pushed her glasses up on the bridge of her nose, a soft smile playing on her lips. The way she looked at her from under her eyelashes like that- God, it was so damn cute. Adore broke.
She threw herself at Courtney, smashing their lips together in a kiss that warmed the two from the deathly cold wind that was blowing. They stayed like that for a few seconds, Adore pulling back first, a blush spreading across her already-red cheeks.
âYou seriously have no idea how long Iâve wanted to do that.â Adore giggled, brushing away a piece of her hair. Courtney adjusted her glasses and looked down at the ground.
âHonestly, I feel the same way.â She smirked, causing Adoreâs heart to burst out of her chest. She pulled Courtney into a hug, burying her face in Courtneyâs neck. She smelled softly of cinnamon, and Adore wanted the scent burned in her memory. Adore took a step back, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
âI- uh, go? See you in class!â Adore turned to basically sprint to her car, but called over her shoulder a quick âTEXT ME!â at the last minute.
Courtney stood, in the dust. She smiled to no one. She walked slowly back to her own car, looking to her side as Adore pulled out of the parking lot. She laughed, waving as Adore honked. Courtney slowed, pulling her bag off her shoulder to grab her phone.
courtney: youâre gonna get a speeding ticket, you goof.
adore: i know <33
Courtney would be lying if she said she didnât get in her car and squeal.
-
Courtney woke up the next morning to a few texts from Adore, all from a few minutes ago.
adore: so
adore: guess who has bronchitisÂ
adore: i totally forgot you were sick
adore: definitely not the best time to kiss you, i guessÂ
Courtney laughed, running a hand through her hair as she replied.
courtney: you are such an idiot
courtney: and i love that about you
Courtney would also be lying if she said she didnât love Adore. She loved that idiot. Her idiot.

Sheaâs heart was in her throat.
Fingernails dug into her thigh. A strong arm was held firmly around her waist, binding her like a rope. The words he said in her ear blurred into nothing.
This was it.
This was the last straw.
She was done. She had to leave. She was going to leave, right now.
She felt a kiss on her cheek as the hand around her waist clenched tighter.
Fuck no.
Shea pushed him off and slapped him in the face, and ran away as fast as she could.
She heard him call after her.
But there was no turning back now.

Sasha was one of very few odd people who actually didnât mind working on Christmas.
Now donât get her wrong, she still loved Christmas. She loved the coloured lights, buying gifts for others, the Christmas carols, even the cold weather - it reminded her of her home in Russia. And of course she missed spending Christmas with her loved ones, but she didnât mind waiting just one more day to open her presents and eat her turkey. After all, that meant her family had two Christmas Days, and she didnât mind missing out on one of them.
She had spent a few years (and probably too much money) designing it in her own vision. Clean, white walls with bookshelves, wooden counters, glass tables, low hanging neon coloured lights, and brightly coloured chairs, in magenta and bright yellow and electric blue. She wanted to create a comfortable, welcoming space for artists in New York like her, of which Sasha knew were many.
Once everything was wrapped and baked, Sasha would gather each present and dessert and load them into her car, before driving down to the local homeless shelter, where she would stay until midnight. She would hand out her gifts to all of those who gathered there for a warm meal, and serve her cakes and cookies and pastries, which everyone loved. She would talk to them and sing carols with them all evening, and had formed a close friendship with the staff and the homeless people over the years for her generosity.
She wanted to make sure that everyone had a good Christmas, and give back to the community that had done so much for her over the years.
And this Christmas was no exception.
Sasha was busily kneading a lump of dough for her mince pies with her flour covered hands and absentmindedly humming to âHark the Heraldâ, when she heard the shop door open. She jumped a little in surprise, and turned her head sharply to see who was the source of the footsteps that were headed her way.
Especially not a women dressed as an elf who was crying her eyes out.
To say that Sasha didnât know what to do wouldâve been an understatement.
She approached the counter, her running mascara staining the green collar of her shirt with black smudges.
âUh⊠can I get a black coffee, p-please?â the girl muttered in a weak, shaky voice, as if she was on the verge of crying again.
Sasha stood silently for a second, eyes wide with utter bewilderment. She couldâve laughed at the sight of the poor girl â sheâd never seen an elf with such little Christmas spirit. But, that wasnât Sashaâs nature, so instead she started making the beverage, giving her time to think about what to say.
She handed over the drink and collected the girlâs money with a small smile, trying desperately to comfort her but not having a clue how to. The girl muttered a quiet âthanksâ and turned to leave the store.
Sasha knew she couldnât just let her leave.
Not on Christmas.
âHey,â Sasha called out, âhow would you like some company while you drink that? We could sit a while, talk?â
The girl wiped a tear from her eye and smiled hopefully. âUm, okay. Thanks.â
***
The pair spent the next hour or so talking to each other, losing track of time. Sasha had laid a table and made two hot chocolates with marshmallows, one for her and one just in case her new companion wanted something sweeter than her coffee. Free of charge, of course.
Sasha learned that the girlâs name was Shea, and that she was originally from Chicago, but moved to New York 3 years ago to study fashion design at college.
Sasha couldâve said how ironic this was considering her Elf costume, but she bit her tongue.
Besides, Shea still looked pretty good in it regardless.
âThen, after I graduate, I wanna design costumes for Broadway shows,â Shea continued on.
âThatâs awesome! I used to do loads of theatre when I was younger,â Sasha reminisced.
âSame! I was such a theatre kid!â Shea laughed fondly. âI played Heather Chandler when we did Heathers in my senior year of high school.â
âNo way! Heathers is one of my favourites!â
âMe too!â Shea exclaimed. âFuck, I got to see Falsettos with the original Broadway cast a few years ago and it was honestly the highlight of my life.â
Sashaâs jaw dropped. âI am so jealous!â
Shea laughed and looked down, her dimples and the creases by her eyes forming a beautiful picture that Sasha never wanted to unsee.
And there wasnât a single tear in her eyes anymore. Sheaâs sadness seemed to be forgotten, at least for now.
Sasha tried to convince herself that she was looking for traces of teardrops in Sheaâs eyes, but who was she kidding. Shea has the most warm, welcoming eyes Sasha had ever seen, eyes that drew her in and sparkled under the Christmas tree lights and allowed Sasha to catch a glimpse of the fiery soul that lay behind them.
She couldnât help but stare. Although she had just met Shea, she was sure that she wanted to stare into those eyes for more than just an hour.
Sasha shook herself back into reality, now quite aware that she had been staring for a little too long. Embarrassed, she quickly tried to draw attention away from her staring.
âSo, Uh, what stopped you from pursuing the whole acting thing?â
Shea shrugged. âI donât know⊠I always wanted to do it, but people kept telling me it was unrealistic.â
âPeople likeâŠâ
âMainly my boyfriend,â Shea mumbled. âI mean, my ex-boyfriend now.â
âEx-boyfriend?â
âYeah, IâŠ. I left him today, actually.â
âIs that you were upset earlier?â Sasha asked.
Shea bit her lip.âSorta⊠I just felt bad doing it on Christmas.â
âDonât feel bad! Iâm sure he probably deserved it anyway,â Sasha said, shaking her head.
âTrust me, he did,â Shea scoffed. âHe was a dickhead.â
Sasha smiled and met Sheaâs eyes for a second, before she quickly glanced away. âUm, can I ask why? Itâs totally okay if you donât wanna talk about it and I get it if you-â
âNo, no itâs fine, Iâll tell you, donât worry,â Shea replied, a sad sort of smile forming on her lips. âIn all honesty⊠he was a jerk. He would, um, try and control my life, and what I wore, and what I did and stuff. Even today he was being a control freak. We both work part time jobs at Macyâs, as Santaâs helpers, and I had booked the day off to spend Christmas with my family, and he was still working and he, uh, he wasnât too pleased about me leaving him on Christmas. So, uh, he changed my work schedule to make sure I was working on Christmas and didnât tell me.â
Sasha felt her heart rate quickening. Oh my God. âFuck, really?â
âYeah. At first I thought he just didnât wanna spend Christmas without me, but really, he just wanted to show off to his friends who took their kids to see Santa Claus. He didnât even get me a gift.â
âShit,â Sasha said in disbelief. âIâm sorry you had to go through that.â
âItâs fine, I guess. Iâm so done with him now though,â Shea said through gritted teeth. âI tried to talk to him earlier, to tell him how I was feeling, but he didnât listen. He just started flirting, playing it off as if it was nothing. And then he was grabbing me, and I slapped him and ran off.â
âFuck, Shea.â Sasha furrowed her brow and bit her lip until she tasted blood.
Shea pursed her lips and inhaled sharply. âI know, it was really fucking bad, Sasha. Iâm never going back. I donât wanna see him ever again.â
Sasha genuinely couldnât believe what she was hearing. This girl had been through hell and back, and yet was still able to articulate everything so perfectly, and Sasha felt priveleged that she trusted her enough to tell her story.
Sasha wished she knew the right words to say. She wished she could rewind time, reverse what happened to Shea. She wished that she could make sure that it would never happen again. âYouâre so brave for leaving him. So brave. Iâm so proud of you.â
She saw tears start to well in Sheaâs eyes, before her face crumpled and she allowed her emotions to come out. Sasha grabbed the girlâs hand across the table, squeezing it tightly and trying to show her how loved she was, how she didnât deserve any of this shit.
Shea allowed the tears to flow, each wave of emotion overflowing her senses, until she calmed down and started to feel okay. She wasnât sure why she had allowed herself to be so vulnerable in front of Sasha. Something about her made her feel safe.
Sashaâs fingers remained interlocked with hers as her breathing began to slow, and she saw a smile creep back her Sheaâs face.
âSorry,â Shea eventually murmured, âfor getting upset and shit.â
âDonât say sorry. Emotions are healthy,â Sasha smiled sympathetically.
A weak smile appeared on Sheaâs face as her rising chest settled and she was back in control.
âWell, I guess if that shit never happened I never wouldâve ended up coming here,â Shea chuckled, the final tear rolling silently down her cheek before being flicked away. âYouâre the only place open on Christmas for miles. Except McDonaldâs.â
âMcDonaldâs doesnât count,â Sasha scoffed, a sarcastic eyebrow raised making Shea giggle.
âShhh, Ronald will hear you!â Shea exclaimed, before the two found themselves in fits of laughter.
âWell, Iâm certainly glad you came in,â Sasha smiled.
âI am too. Iâm really glad I met you, Sasha.â Shea beamed, the twinkle of sadness in her eye fading to a spark of hope. Sasha stared for a little longer than she probably should have. It was so easy to lose herself in her kind eyes.
Snapping back to reality, Sasha quickly glanced down and cleared her throat. Damn it. Shea must have noticed her staring that time. Sheâd need to be more careful about that.
When she dared to glance back up, Sheaâs eyes were waiting, staring back into hers. Fuck. There was something so special about this girl.
No. Sasha had only just met this girl, they barely knew each other, and she had just broken up with her boyfriend for Christâs sake.
This wasnât happening.
This was crazy.
But maybe, Sasha liked crazy.
Maybe it was the fire in Sheaâs eyes, or her fingers still interlocked with Sashaâs, or even her dumb elf costume that gave Sasha the confidence to say what she said next.
âSo, uh, if you have no plans for Christmas anymore, then maybe you could stick around and help me with a few things.â
Shea didnât have a clue how to bake, so whilst Sasha handled the difficult parts, Shea was set the task of decorating the gingerbread men, which she did with glee â she gave each biscuit a name and a different outfit and told Sasha made-up stories about each cookie character, making the smaller girl giggle. There was something infectious about Sashaâs laughter. God, she was adorable.
Once Sasha had seemed their collection of baked goods satisfactory, they began on their next task - wrapping. Shea felt more in her element here, given her experience with fabric, and so set off on a mission to show Sasha how amazing her wrapping was. She covered her first shoebox with glittery gold paper and streams of ribbons and bows, as if the present was fit for Broadway itself. She proudly handed it over to Sasha with a nod, before glancing over at Sashaâs gifts. Each one was precisely wrapped with crisp, neat folds, tied up with a flourish of ribbon. Not to mention the fact that she had wrapped 7 boxes in the time it had taken Shea to wrap one.
Upon noticing Sheaâs gawking, Sasha laughed time herself. âItâs all in the math. Wrapping is essentially geometry,â she said, curling a length of ribbon with her scissors. âI like your wrapping more though. Itâs more fun!â
Shea smirked. Damn. Smart and nice? Did Sasha know how perfect she was?
Shea knew alright.
***
The sound of a chorus of voices singing âjingle bellsâ poured out from the homeless shelter, which was buzzing with life and activity. It had been decorated in rainbow-coloured fairy lights, a beacon of hope and magic in an otherwise dark and cold December night.
The two girls walked through the double doors side by side, arms bundled with seemingly endless wrapped boxes and silver tins of desserts. They were greeted by friendly faces and handshakes and hugs from volunteers and homeless people alike, thanking them for contributing to their Christmas.
Shea was sure she hadnât understood the meaning of Christmas until now.
They began handing out the gifts along each row, Sasha offering hugs to those she had gotten to know over the past few years. Seeing the genuine, heartfelt reactions of those who appreciated such simple gestures as shoeboxes and cakes made Sheaâs heart soar. For the first time in a long time, she felt alive.
Maybe it was Sasha who made her feel alive.
She couldnât really tell.
After an evening spent singing carols and eating Sashaâs Christmas desserts, the two left arm in arm.
âHey Sasha,â Shea said. âThank you for all of this. For saving me.â
Sasha beamed. âYou make it so easy.â
And thus began Sashaâs brand new Christmas tradition.
She would still go down to the homeless shelter and bring her desserts and her gifts. Of course.
AN: for mollyroll, this pushed me out of my comfort zone but I managed to finish it in the end, hope it Okay, a bit shy of 800 words not a ton but I tried, merry Christmas

âHave you ever skated beforeâ Katya laughed as Alaskaâs legs seemed to go in two separate directions as she went into the ice. She shook her head with a slight pout. Wasnât it obvious? She had the balance of a baby deer. It was amusing to Katya but also somehow endearing.
âItâs not too hard, let me help youâ Katya grabbed the other girls hands and held them to help her find some balance and get to the railing of the rink.
Grabbing at the rail she managed to hold herself up and tried to move along. Before promptly falling on her butt. Katya couldnât help but laugh as she skated past and around the taller girl. She felt like she was being taunted when the blonde skated circles around Her, laughing hard at the imagery of her looking like a drunk baby horse as Katya so eloquently put it.
Alaska pouted slightly at the insult.
Katya offered her hand again, pulling Alaska up after falling again one trying to traverse the outer part of the rink.
âTry just walking on the ice first, it takes a bit to get used to the iceâ Katya laughed slightly at the unsteady movements in front of her. Alaska took a few steps, sliding slightly after and almost long her balance again. Instinctually Katya caught her. She couldnât help but laugh again at the struggles her friend was facing.
âYou know youâre supposed to slide on the ice right?â Katya wheezed as the other girl tried to take a step, slid forward and scrambled for the railing to catch herself. âYouâre doing goodâ
âI keep falling over. How is that good?â Alaska pointedly responded with a frustrated huff. Katya laughed in response which ended in the two of them dying of the ridiculousness of the situation
âBecause thatâs how you skate. Try to let yourself slide after your steps. Slither like the snake you areâ the laughs continued with Alaska forgetting for a moment the awful feeling of falling repeatedly on the frozen ground.
Taking another set of cautious steps, she propels herself forward. This time she squats and puts her arms out to keep balance.
âYou did it!â Katya says, grinning. âCome on, letâs skate together. She doesnât wait for an answer. Grabbing Alaskaâs hands and propelling them both forward. They continue laughing with Katya practically dragging the other girl along with her as she moves quickly along the ice. Not particularly looking where sheâs going, and proceeding to bulb straight into the railing. They topple over, stunned and still giggling amongst themselves.
"Good job you whoreâ Alaska laughed, attempting to get up from the ground. only to fall back over in the attempt.
âGood job you whoreâ Katya mimicked jokingly, pulling the two of them up to stable, as stable as an ice rink could be, footing. Their hands were still clasped together, neither girl wanting to let go just yet. Moments like this were few and far between. In the dying of laughter, stupid acts and wheezing that Katya would always do when she found something particularly funny Alaska felt her heart warm slightly.
Katya felt something similar. Ignoring the chill of the ice and the pain of having crashed into it with a whole person falling on top of her. Her heart warmed the coldness away. The feeling that Alaska always gave her in moments like this. It was freeing.
The laughter died down, leaving the two girls grinning at each other. Their cheeks were sore from laughing and smiling so much but it was worth it. The state they were in took a while to wear off. Both were enjoying the mood while it lasted.
The two blondes continued to skate. Katya taught Alaska how to move better, getting her to the point where she could skate a bit on her own. She also got pulled around in Katyaâs enthusiasm a good bit but she couldnât complain. Getting off the ice was a bit of struggle, however. Both girls had tired themselves out to the point their legs and feet were aching. Alaska managed to step off just fine. She started to take her skates off as Katya followed. She didnât get out of her skates so easily. Struggling them off and getting their shoes back the pair left the skating rink. Their hands would brush every so often. They continued their outing, going to a small cafe to warm up and eat a little. Neither knew what the other was feeling but both felt something change. The feelings could stay silent for now. All that mattered was the fun and joy they had together
Merry Christmas, everyone! Here is the Trixya fluff written for @mistressaq, thank you for the prompt, I had so much fun with it and hope you enjoy reading!

Happy Holidays y'all! This is my fic for the @rpdrficexchange for Wolfie, aka Wolfie @thepastpresentandfutureofdrag !! I hope you like this darling! (For some reason I can't tag you in this?)
This is a weird cannon divergent style where they are their drag personas but dragula and drag race still happened, (if that makes sense) so make of that what you will.
"Do you know anything about him?" Vander asked, pulling a batch of cookies out of the oven and sliding them onto a cooling rack. Biqtch was leaning against the wall, nursing a mixed drink.
"Just that he's Boulet approved, same as you." Biqtch drawled. " Swan actually told me to be nice, as if I would be mean to anyone who wasn't mean first, or a Republican."Â
"You can be a bit crass at first. Drac told me to be mindful of not coming across too snooty, but she's one to speak."Â
"Oop, I'm snitching! I'm going to tell her you said that!"Â
"Oh, she knows, she makes fun of herself. And she would just brush it off. I can tease her a little since I know her relatively well."Â
"Yeah that's fair, Lord knows they talk shit about us all the time in private."
"I'm pretty sure it's mostly good things, but yeah, they absolutely poke at our screwups with each other. "Â
"Because they want the best from us, cause we're super monsters and all that." Biqtch pushed herself up from the wall, crossing over and rinsing out her cup to use again later.Â
"And also because we have to work together from now on, so we have to be at least cordial to each other." Vander said, pulling out her phone to check the time. "He should be here anytime now. I told him 6, and it's 5:55."Â
Just as Vander stopped speaking, the doorbell rang.Â
"Speak of the devil, that should be him." Vander motioned for Biqtch to follow her as she went to the door, smoothing out some wrinkles from Biqtch's shirt before opening the door wide.Â
"Hi, nice to finally meet you! Landon, right?"Â
"Yup, Landon Cider. Nice to meet you too." He affirmed, holding a hot bag. Vander waved him inside and relieved him of his dish, allowing him to hang his coat up as Biqtch closed the door.Â
"Nice to finally meet you, I'm Biqtch Pudding, and that's Vander Von Odd. You're hot as shit." Biqtch introduced herself, leaning against the wall as Landon took off his outerwear. The most prominent thing about him was how chiseled he was, even his face. The Boulets weren't ones to choose supermonsters based on conventional standards of beauty, but Landon was certainly very attractive.Â
"Ah yes, you two are infamous. The first two supermonsters!" Landon smiled, slightly blushing at Biqtch's remark.
"I hope our fearsome reputation precedes us."Â Biqtch flexed, her arm about half the size of Landon's.Â
"Landon, does this need to be warmed up at all?" Vander asked, holding up a casserole dish from the hot bag, interrupting before Biqtch could embarrass herself more.Â
"Maybe? I pulled it out of the oven before I left, so it should still be warm." He crossed over and took off the top, holding his hand over what appeared to be a lasagna. "Oh it's fine. It probably needs to cool down a little actually. Biqtch, I know you're a vegetarian, so this is just cheese."Â
"Yasss thanks doll!" Biqtch cheered. "What do you want to drink?" Biqtch led Landon over to Vander's drink cart as Vander pulled together the last little bits of the meal and set the table. She put the basket of rolls down as Landon and Biqtch came back, and Landon immediately put his drink down to help Vander put the last few things on the table.Â
"Thanks babe." Vander said as they all sat down at the table and started serving food. It was quiet for the first few minutes while they ate, but then Vander started asking Landon questions, since the main point of the dinner was to get to know him.Â
"So tell us about yourself Landon, where are you from, what do you do outside of doing performing .."
"Are you single?" Biqtch interjected. And Landon chuckled before responding.Â
"Well, I'm from Long Beach, and I have a Hispanic background. I am happily married, sorry Biqtch." He apologized, and Biqtch pretended to be upset, pouting and snapping her fingers before sitting up and shoving his shoulder, indicating that she was joking.Â
"We fucked like the all of the drag race winners do when they win but neither one of us liked it, so she was hoping to get a second chance." Vander explained, and Landon spit out his drink.Â
"And you know that HOW?!" He spluttered as Biqtch clapped him on his back.Â
"Sasha told me. She doesn't love the tradition, but I have a feeling she'll change her tune if Shea wins an allstar season."Â
"So they haven't fucked?"Â
"Oh no, they have. And they'll take any excuse to fuck. They're just rarely in the same place at the same time anymore. Trust me, Sasha's an open book once you get to know her well enough. So are most of the other RuGirls. Several of the other winners have offered to include us in the tradition, but unfortunately that probably ends with you. At least the sex part, most of them would probably be willing to makeout with you or cuddle with you."Â
"Fine by me!" Landon declared, wiping his brow. And they all started laughing.Â
"Yeah, we all saw you make out with Evah!" Vander teased, and Biqtch hooted appreciatively.Â
"Neither of you can talk!" Landon retorted, and they all started laughing harder. "Biqtch is a dick pig and Vander handled a pup during her final floor show. Hypocrites, both of you!" He wheezed out, clutching his stomach with one hand while pointing with the other.Â
"Look at the pot calling the kettle black!" Biqtch screeched.Â
The rest of the night dissolved into hysterics, scream laughing at each other so loud it was a wonder they didn't get a noise complaint. The food was barely touched and cold, but no one cared.Â
"I was inside so I couldn't see, but you could just hear her screaming! FUCK THE BIG PICTURE CLINT!!!"Â
"That's better than Loris's temper tantrum. "NoT tOnIgHt!"Â
"Well we didn't have any fun catchphrases like y'all did!"
"Bitch the fuck you mean? Everything that came out of Disasterina's mouth was fucking iconic! "Attention human males? She's murdering my pussy?" You just gotta think!"Â
"Ooh ooh! I know! "You're just a trigger happy alcoholic that's what I said bitch you gotta pop a xanax every 10 fucking minutes!" That's the closest thing Dragula has to the sugar daddy speech so far!" Â
"Ok, you both are right. What can I say? I just a dummy ass thick Biqtch." She joked, standing up slightly to twerk slightly to the amusement of Vander and Landon, who laughed even harder.
The doorbell rang, interrupting their laughter. Vander got up to answer it, and came back carrying a white box, slightly damp from the snow.Â
"What is that?" Biqtch asked as she and Landon got up and walked over to the counter where Vander sat it down.Â
"No idea, but it's addressed to me and it's from a really nice bakery." Vander replied, cutting the string tied around the box off with a pair of scissors and opening the box. All of their jaws dropped as the lid fell back and revealed what was inside. Biqtch came to her senses first, hunching over laughing and clutching the counter. Vander covered her mouth and started wheezing as Landon chuckled and pinching his forehead as if he couldn't believe his eyes.Â
"That is not what I think it is."Â
"It is." Vander and Biqtch said in unison. Biqtch pulled out her phone and took a picture, still laughing.Â
"I'm sending this to her right now. It's so lifelike, and I should know, I stared at her mug for weeks!" Vander laughed, kneeling to get a better look.Â
"Did she send it?" Landon asked, taking out his own phone to take a picture. Vander plucked up an envelope that was beside the cake and opened it, laughing harder when she read it.Â
" It's from the Boulets." She wheezed.Â
" Happy Holidays uglies. Hope you don't mind if Meatball crashes your supermonster dinner party. We truly are proud of you all. XOXO. Dracmorda and Swanthula."
"Swan wrote that." Biqtch said, looking over Vander's shoulder. "Drac has chicken scratch."Â
"Ooh! I'm snitching!" Vander mocked, and Biqtch doubled over again while Landon laughed in a confused way.Â
"So who wants to do the honors of cutting Meatball's head and seeing what flavor her brain is?"Â
"Landon should do it, welcome to the family bro. " Biqtch said. Vander nodded and handed Landon a knife, which he took.Â
"Alright, cheers Meatball." Landon said as he sunk the knife into the cake shaped like her head and cut away a piece.Â
"It looks like Red Velvet." Vander said as she held out a plate for Landon to put the cake piece on.Â
"That's clever as fuck!" Biqtch smiled, watching as Landon cut the next piece.Â
"Now I know how the Boulets feel, this is a powerful feeling, slicing someone up."Â
"Oh he's definitely one of us!" Biqtch cheered, high fiving Vander. Biqtch high fived Landon as Vander's phone went off and she unlocked it.Â
"Swan's glad to hear we got it and Meatball sent a bunch of grave emojis."Â
"That tracks." Biqtch said as Vander put her phone away and went to grab wine glasses and a bottle, uncorking it and handing them all a glass of red wine.
"A toast." She said as she held up her glass. "To the Boulets, to Dragula, to good food and good times, and to the supermonsters, past, reigning, and future. Cheers."Â
"Cheers!" Biqtch and Landon echoed. And they all drank.Â
"Now let's go eat our cold food and our Meatball head cake." Vander directed. "This is a dinner party after all."Â
"A holiday dinner party! Where's the mistletoe?" Biqtch joked.
"I am not kissing you again! Once was enough!"Â
"Spoil sport. Landon will make out with me, won't you Landon?"Â
"Umm, we'll talk. "Â
"That wasn't a no!"Â
Landon rolled his eyes and laughed at Biqtch's perseverance and Vander's apologetic face. This family was strange and weird and unconventional, but he loved it and wouldn't have it any other way.
[ summary ] : it was another day of training for manila's skaters as they began their usual warmups for the next grand prix event however, an unusual yet welcome guest decides to crash test the ice for the first time in years.Â
[ author's note ] : happy holidays and a merry holiday to my secret santa fic for @rpdrficexchange is dedicated to the lovely @greydarling !!! I adore you and I was so happy to get someone from the discord who also loves max and rajila, I sincerely hope you enjoy beautiful ( ââżâ )âĄ
*prompt is from tumblr and I couldn't resisit since my most popular fic is my figure skating au: "this is my first time at the ice rink and ive fallen on my butt at least 34 times so far but you keep skating around me like a fuckin pro au"
â *.â§
Manila clapped loudly, her hands tightly interlocked as she stared at Brooke in the center of the ice as the music from the speakers blared inside their training rink. The Canadian slamming her skate's toe pick in the ground as she began takeoff from the back inside edge of her right foot and did four rotations in the air before landing on the back outside edge of the opposite foot. Manila cheered and laughed, she knew her skater was good with her Quad Salchow but it was always wonderful to see it happen when she wasn't scared shitless about the blonde landing it during competition.Â
Her black hair bounced in her face as she took her fingers and brushed it back, the strands of white curdled within it pushing to the front of her face. "That was great, this is how you should be landing it every competition Brooke! Take a break." She yelled from the wall of the rink, her head over the railing as the Canadian nodded and was quick to slide off the ice, taking off her EDEA skates once on the ground to go and refresh herself and finally eat.Â
The door chimed as another figure entered through the door as Manila swarmed the entrance, a bit uneasy considering it was now late at night and the only skaters she had on deck in France was Brooke and Kim. The Asian girl stood up straight and huffed, "Can I help you?" The coach asked nervousâ praying that she wouldn't have to break out her broken high school level french for translation.Â
A taller woman closed the door huddled in her large black faux fur coat with a sigh, unveiling herself with a hard thud as she almost slipped on the floor wearing boots most likely not meant for the winter wonderland that was happening outside constantly.Â
"You're far too formal Manila, I'm not your judge off hours you know."Â
The voice was unprecedentedly familiar though Manila bit her tongue until she gasped with complete relief her hands jumping above her head as she ran into Raja, her grey hair falling in front of her face as she tucked it back behind her ears as the shorter female squealed, hugging her again. Her eyes wandering curiously hoping that no one would invade their moment.Â
Raja was now a judge for the ISU, the international skating union and was judging in France for the Grand Prix event. It was tough to see her old roommate and best friend being harsh on her skater's but it was her job and she had to be fair even if Manila sometimes thought she could be a bit too harsh on certain skaters for reasons out of their control.Â
However, now wasn't the time to question scores or discuss them. It was for one, illegal, and then it would certainly ruin the atmosphere.Â
"So, you missed me I'm guessing?" A wink leaving the corner of Manila's eyes as she crossed her hands and let Raja take off her coat though she could faintly hear the chuckle. A grin appeared out of the corner of her mouth as she replied with a sweet, "Well I always do, just thought you wouldn't be training right now."Â
"I am but they're on break so we can go to the other rink if you want, I wouldn't want them to see you with me: no offense."Â
Raja shrugged, understanding that it be a bit uneasy for her girls to see one of the most well known and tough judges giggling and hugging around their coach who also used to be in their position as a professional figure skater. The two grabbed their bags as Manila took her hand and smiled, Raja's face turning red as her eyes widened though she let her old friend drag her across the buildings hallway to go to the dark and secluded second, smaller rink located left of the other one that was occupied by Brooke for now.Â
"You wanna skate with me?" The undeniably mischievous smirk across Manila's red lips made Raja shake her head immediately. The taller woman refused explaining that she was a judge and not a figure skater, she got paid to break down scores not to actually step any foot out on the ice.Â
"So you're a judge for my skaters, for the most professional skaters of our time and you can't even skate? Sham!" She yelled with a laugh as she laced up her perfectly pearly white skates that had yellow swaworksi's bedazzling the front of the skates. She stood up with her fuzzy yellow skate guards over her EDEA's as she jumped the counter and stole a pair of black figure skates. They were usually designated for men though Manila couldn't tell you why the colors were gender specific, these would do for now.Â
Manila handed them gently to a clearly expressionless Raja, the older woman not enjoying what her friend had in mind for tonight.Â
"Manila, I can't skate."Â
"Anyone can skate when I'm their coach, let me prove it." She held out her hand as Raja finished lacing up the black laces and tugged the knots. Reluctant to accept the gesture she took her hand anyway as Manila stepped out onto the ice, showing her how to atleast balance on the ice.Â
"If you need to fall or feel you're about to, bend your knees and squat. Make sure you never fall backwards and if you do fall, I'll laugh in your face and then help you up so no worries!"Â
The chipper tone in her voice not making Raja feel any more confident in the little skating ability she had already. She rolled her eyes and waved her off as Manila skated off and did a crossover, waving to Raja with a smile as sheÂ
took off from the back outside edge of her skating foot, turning three rotations in the air, and landing on the back outside edge of the same foot.Â
Raja clapped, impressed that Manila landed a triple loop that well at her ageâ it wasn't a read either, skaters who were older just couldn't hit as high of rotations or height as those of teen age. Though Manila was pretty short.Â
"Grade of Execution from the judges?" She asked as she skated over to the Raja, adjusting her sweater as her old friend shrugged with a smile.Â
"Your jump was good though the edge on that outside foot was definitely a bit shaky but since I'm wildly in love with Manila Luzon and want her to win the gold I'd give you a plus three and then just the ten points, no other judges needed to calculate." She joked as she attempted to skate her way over to Manila before she felt herself stumble and fall forward on the ice with a hard crack. The coach quickly wincing and skating over, kneeling with Raja and grabbing her wrists and telling her to put one hand on her knee cap and one on the ice as she gently managed to keep herself afloat again.
"In love with me?" She teased as she leaned in to Raja's face, widely smiling with her cheeks heating up despite the ice cold chill of the arena freezing up her neck. Despite the underlying pressure that would come with the secrecy of a coach dating a judge it was definitely an entertaining idea that Raja, the most stern and strict skating judge was utterly in love with arguably the most extroverted and entertaining coach there was.
Raja stuttered, out of character for her, as Manila was the first to attempt to make a move on her childhood and high school crush. Leaning in to kiss her she felt Raja almost meet her halfway before a false move made the two completely slip into the ice once more. This time however, it was Manila who laughed and hit Raja in the shoulder and apologized for the slip up.Â
"Okay, maybe I take back that comment about you being a great skater."Â
"Bitch!"Â
The two bickering loudly before Raja met her lips and enjoyed the quiet of Manila completely immersing herself in the moment as her cold hands held onto Raja's before the two got up, the younger woman hoping to speak though was quickly shut down with another kiss. Their hands interlocked, Manila pushed her away and grabbed her by the collar of her jacket.Â
"How dare you interrupt me." She whispered teasingly as Raja grabbed her waist and hummed, letting Manila help guide her with moving on the ice. It was far easier with a partner as opposed to her moving completely clumsy across the ice.Â
"Had to get you to stop bickering somehow, my point was made."Â
"How long did you keep all that in?"Â
The conversation went from cute to serious in a matter of seconds as Manila pondered aloud her burning questions. Raja blinked and cleared her throat as they continued to skate across the ice, slowly but surely getting the hang of it more and more.Â
"Since freshman year before you dropped out to skate full time. I think when you invited me to your junior skating competition. Seeing you skate to something as basic as Chicago made my entire heart explode and I knew, if I could endure you skating to All That Jazz I was truly in love with you despite your awful music taste."
"Chicago is basic but at least it's not Carmen."Â
"Carmen it is not! You don't even want to know how many times I think about lowering my score each time I hear Habanera on a fucking loop."Â
Manila sang the beat out aloud as Raja wanted to scream, plugging her ears trying to disassociate from the conversation as she saw the coach turn and do a double axel across the center of the ice, inviting Raja to attempt the same though she refused, barely able to keep herself standing though the hands in front of her and the squat position definitely made it a tiny bit easier.
The pair leaned against the wall of the ice rink, propping themselves up and zipping up their jackets as they stood facing the glass door. Manila the first to speak up for the first time in about three minutes, "If I wanted to take you on a date would you say yes?"Â
"It definitely be inconvenient considering our work schedules but of course I would say yes, as long as we don't go to some fast food place. High school all you did after sixth period was skip and go get greasy french fries."Â
She scoffed at the response though she couldn't quite deny it.Â
"And?"Â
Raja laughed and hit her in the shoulder before brushing her lips against her cheek as the coach glimmered in pride, "So let's say a date. We'll do it the day after the women's long program and go and runway to some overpriced French restaurant where they only wear fifteen million feathers or leather coats!" Manila suggesting the idea to the judge who could only pause and think on the idea before nodding.Â
Hope you like it, darling! đ Is it terrible I called Vanderâs actual dog Scritch? đ€
-
Vander stared in disbelief at his friend. Sasha was brilliant, one of the most creative people he knew, and highly intelligent. It was part of why they got along so well. It also helped that they could walk their dogs, Vanderâs Scritch and Sashaâs Vanya, together as they were currently doing. But times like right now, with Sasha telling this story, Vander honestly wondered how the heck his friend could be so smart and yet so dumb at the same time.
âThis guy Iâve been seeing, well not really seeing but kind of, we went to the bookstore I think he mustâve really hated it because every time I looked over at him he was looking at me and not reading so I figured he was bored so we went home.â
âTogether?â Vander asked, but he knew the answer. Sasha had blown it.
âNo I took drove him home and then came back to mine and tossed and turned thinking about it.â
âOverthinking it,â Vander correctly guessed. âSash, did it ever occur to you that maybe Shea was looking at you because I dunno, he was happy to see you having fun?â
Sasha stopped as Vanya sniffed at a bush. â...no? He wasnât reading. He was looking at me. He was bored.â
âDid Shea say that? Did he look bored or were you just more interesting than this book?â
Sasha stared at his friend. âWhat do you mean?â
Vander scoffed. âLike maybe he wanted you to come home with him instead of reading books? Even if you just came over to read with him?â
âHuh.â Sasha began walking again as Vanya did, unsure what to do with that new perspective.
-
Vanderâs words bounced around Sashaâs head for the next couple days. He decided heâd take Vanderâs advice and try reading at Sheaâs.
Sasha picked up his book and got in the car to drive to Sheaâs.
-
The first thing Sasha noticed was that there was no chocolate out. But Sheaâs apartment was all decorated for the holidays, with holly on the mantle and mistletoe hanging from the ceiling light over the couch, and an impressive and stylish tree in the center of the room.
âYou really go all out for Christmas. Wow. I donât do much. I think itâs just too capitalistic. I prefer to hand make things and I know you said not to bring anything but...â Sasha cleared his throat and handed Shea a fabric wrapped package. âThe gift wrap is from Japan. Itâs reusable. And uh I made your gift too.â
âYou didnât have to get me anything but thank you, boo.â Shea grabbed a gift bag off the mantle. âI got you something too though. Should we open them together?â
âTogether.â
Shea untied the cloth bundle to reveal a beautiful handmade sweater. âI love this color! How did you know?â He held it up. It looked to be the perfect size. He smirked and stripped his shirt off to try it on, even though that wasnât strictly necessary. But when he looked up shirtless to see Sashaâs reaction, Shea found him completely absorbed in his present.
The signed first edition Judith Butler seemed to be a hit and Sasha was already nose deep into it, fully absorbed in the words that he couldnât be distracted by a beautiful shirtless man. Typical.
Shea put on the sweater, realizing that Sasha was on the couch. Perfect. Shea climbed into his lap and put the book to the side to plant a kiss solidly on Sasha.
Sashaâs bewildered eyes only lasted a moment before he melted into the kiss.
âYou were under the mistletoe. I had to,â he teased.
Sasha chuckled. âTradition.â
âPlus Iâve been wanting to do that for a while.â
That caught Sasha off guard. âYou did?â
âDid... did you want me to kiss you?â
Sasha nodded. âYeah...â
âCan I do it again?â
Sashaâs heart was gonna beat out of his chest. Surely he was dreaming. This was all he wanted. He kissed Shea back eagerly, pulling him close.
Sasha wasnât one to believe in religious experiences but this was what he imagined they were like. He could kiss Shea for hours, and honestly? They did, both drunk off each otherâs touches by the time they paused to just stroke each otherâs faces and stare at each other in wonder.
Shea smirked at him. âWant to stay for Christmas? Iâve got a nice cozy bed big enough to share.â
Sasha smiled back at him. âIâd love to. Merry Christmas Shea.â

Brianna had always had a soft spot for the Christmas season, even if she didnât celebrate it. She was 5 when her mum first told her the meaning behind the phrase imprinted on her wrist in loopy, delicate writing.
Everyone is born with an inscription on their left wrist, a message that will vanish when their soulmate says the words to them. Their second half; their perfect match.
When Brianna was younger, her friends used to tease her for having an unusual mark. It was normal to have romantic phrases, but Brianna felt very proud of her words.
Have I told you how much I despise Christmas shopping?
It was a blessing to know roughly when it would happen. A hopeless romantic, every single year she waited anxiously for December, and was disappointed when January came along and the words remained unchanged on her skin.
This year was no exception. She had volunteered to cover the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day shifts at the coffee shop so her two other coworkers could have time off with their families. She didnât mind, being the sole barista and cashier was exhausting, but helping her friends made her warm and fuzzy inside.
So when she dragged herself all the way home on the 24th, nearing midnight, she wanted nothing more than to eat her motherâs cooking and then slide into bed until the next day. In a single motion, she entered the elevator and pressed the button for the tenth floor. The doors were closing when out of the corner of her eye she spotted a figure entering the lobby, carrying a veritable tower of presents.
âHold the elevator!â The girl was stumbling; the boxes in her hands obscured her vision and she was having a lot of trouble keeping them balanced.
Brianna didnât think twice, she ran over, determined to help in whatever way she could. She took a couple of boxes off the top of the tower, enough so the other girl could see where she was walking, and helped her inside the elevator.
Once the doors closed, she turned to ask the other girl what floor she needed to go.
âTen is good, thanksâ
Brianna knew her. Her name was Aquaria, if memory served her well. She fidgeted where she stood, feeling inadequate in her stained pink unicorn sweater when Aquaria looked as though she had been ripped off the pages of Vogue. Both of them had grown up in the same building, the same floor, two doors down from each other, but they had never really interacted. Brianna probably knew her mums better than she knew Aquaria, and that was saying a lot.
The elevator had started moving by the time she sneaked a glance at Aquaria and found her looking at herself in the mirror. To tell the truth, she had never really liked the younger girl. She had always thought Aquaria was distant, self-centered, and haughty. When she left their small town some years back (âSheâs going to be a model!â her taller, sweeter mum had once told her upon a chance meeting in the hallway) it only reaffirmed Briannaâs preconceptions about her. She thought she was too good for-
There was a hitch as the elevator climbed, then a shrill metallic sound. Suddenly, it shuddered and ground to a shaking halt. The lights turned off.
âWhat the fuck?!â Thumps echoed in the darkness as what Brianna guessed were boxes fell to the floor. Aquaria launched herself at the control panel, frantically looking for the alarm button.
âUh⊠it wonât workâŠâ Brianna bent to set the gifts she was carrying neatly on the carpet, then sat down. âThe elevator maintenance crew was supposed to come this week but-â
Aquaria banged on the door, then groaned when, predictably, nothing happened. âYou have got to be kidding me! Tonight, of all nights!?â
Brianna shrugged, then realized there was no point in the gesture. âI mean, we probably wonât be here for long.â
She heard the rustle of fabric, then a dull thud as Aquaria presumably slid down onto the carpet. Her eyes were still getting used to the dark when a flash of light dazzled her. Aquaria had turned on her phone. She fidgeted with it for a few seconds, then threw it into a pile of boxes in frustration.
âCould you call my mum? Your mum? Someone? Anyone?â Illuminated by the faint glow of her phone, Aquaria looked like she was going to cry.
Brianna knew her phone had run out of battery hours ago, but she hoped for a Christmas miracle. She pulled it out of her bag and, as expected, it was dead.
âI knew I should have bought a SIM card at the airport, fuck my life.â Aquaria half heartedly thumped her head against the floor length mirror behind her.
âDonât worry about it, Iâm sure weâll be out in no time.â Brianna couldnât find it in her heart to complain about being tired when the other girl seemed so distraught.
âI guess⊠urgh⊠itâs just been a long day.â Aquaria turned on her phoneâs flashlight so they would at least have a light source.
âSame⊠long, long day.â
For years Aquaria had seemed like a stone statue, unapproachable and perfectly poised. Seeing her trying so hard to keep herself in check was weird, to say the least. She was human, after all. Brianna felt bad for having assumed so many things about her, it was unlike herself to think the worst of others but for some reason she had done so anyway when it came to Aquaria.
They spent a few moments in uncomfortable silence when Aquaria began talking unprompted.
âI took a red eye flight from Paris yesterday⊠I was hoping to surprise Mum and Mum for Christmas but⊠the flight was delayed and⊠I barely had time to buy some presents andâŠâ
âIâm sure theyâll be delighted to see you anyway."
Aquaria rubbed her eyes, smudging her perfect makeup. "Youâre probably right⊠sorry about that⊠Mum always says I run my mouth whenever Iâm stressing too much about stuffâŠâ
Brianna smiled what she hoped was an encouraging smile. âYouâre really close with them, thatâs sweet.â
âNot really, I only see them once a year.â Aquaria crossed her legs. âDonât get me wrong, I miss them. Iâm just so swamped by work I can barely have time off.â
âThey probably like you better because they donât see you as often.â Briannaâs eyes opened wide when she noticed what she had said.
Rather than take offence, Aquaria laughed. âI guess youâre right.â
âI mean,â still somewhat flustered, Brianna tried to correct her blunder, âif theyâre anything like mine⊠my mumâs been pestering me for years to move out and get my own place already!â
Aquariaâs smile was really pretty. Prettier than she thought possible for someone with a resting bitch face.
âI remember seeing you around, I think. Youâre from 1006 arenât you?â
âThat would be me.â
âNice to meet you properly, then. Iâm Aquaria from 1008.â She held out her hand and Brianna took it.
Fearing she would come off as creepy, she bit back an âI knowâ. Instead, she went for something simpler. âIâm Brianna."
ââ
âSo.. whatâs your deal?â
They had spent several minutes in silence. Aquaria had been looking through her pictures, or something, Brianna honestly hadnât been paying attention. She had gotten bored of inspecting her fingernails and had closed her eyes for what seemed like just a second.
âExcuse me?â
Aquaria shrugged. âJob, hobbies and whatnot. Small talk to pass the time. You can start⊠if you want to, I mean⊠I donât know.â
âUh, sure.â Brianna quickly rubbed sleep out of her eyes and shifted where she sat. âI work at a coffee shop three blocks down⊠nothing too interesting, really. Iâm pretty sure you have better stories than me.â
Aquaria scoffed. âI might be a model or whatever, but that doesnât mean my life is interesting. Mostly just routine, boring.â
âWhat brands have you worked with, lately?â
She seemed bored, like she had been asked that question a million times before. âMoschino-â
Briannaâs eyes were wide open. âMoschino?!â
âYeah, we did a photoshoot for-â
Brianna gave a slight shove to Aquariaâs shoulder. âAnd thatâs not a big deal?!â
Aquaria looked at a loss for words, she simply shrugged and changed the topic. More than haughty, she seemed clueless. Like she didnât have a filter, and she didnât realize the effect her words could have on others. It didnât come out of maliciousness, rather ignorance. And that wasnât necessarily a bad thing.
âUh, what do you usually do for Christmas?â
âJewish. We donât do Christmas.â Brianna shrugged. âI usually take on solo shifts though, to help out my coworkers.â
The phone fell out of Aquariaâs hands and they were plunged into darkness. She quickly recovered, fumbled with it, and turned the flashlight back on.
âUh⊠is something the matter?â
âY-Yeah⊠yeah itâs all good.â Her face was carefully blank, but her voice sounded panicked. âI-Itâs really nice of you⊠to help out⊠your coworkersâŠâ
There was something clearly not right there, but Brianna didnât press it.
Conversation rose and fell between them. They talked about the holidays, traditions, family, fond memories⊠Sometimes things got too deep and personal, but Brianna found she didnât particularly mind. It felt natural, talking to Aquaria, even when she barely knew her, she felt oddly comfortable around her.
There was something else about her, something that had changed in the short time they spent been together. It was something about the way she smiled like she knew something Brianna didnât, how she played with her hair and looked at Brianna below her lashes. How she made Briannaâs mouth feel dry, and how her mere presence sucked all the air out of the room.
When she asked about past relationships, which would normally be considered a taboo subject for mere acquaintances, Brianna told her all about them, anyway.
âSo you havenât met your soulmate yet?â Aquaria all but purred, pointing with her head at Briannaâs exposed wrist.
âUh, no.â She fixed the cuff of her sweatshirt over the inscription. It was far too dark for Aquaria to read the small print, but covering it felt appropriate.
âHow do you want them to be?â
âI mean, I like the thought of having a fated soulmate.â Brianna was thankful for the low light that hopefully concealed her blush. Aquaria was flirting and it wasnât fair.
âBut if you could choose their traits, what would you wish for?â
âWellâŠuhâŠâ She was far too distracted by the other girl slowly inching forward, âOpenness? Uh⊠warmth?â
âHave you ever considered leaving this town?â Her fingers danced over her left sweater sleeve.
âYeah but⊠why are you asking me all these things?â
âNo reason!â suddenly flustered, Aquaria recoiled back to her own end of the elevator.
If she continued whatever it was she was doing, Brianna wasnât going to survive this. And it would be entirely her own fault for maybe hoping that something might happen between them. She hadnât exactly waited for her soulmate, having had a couple partners in the past, but it always felt wrong to hook up with anyone in December, when her soulmate was so close but so far away.
Thankfully, nothing further happened after that. They sort of drifted into a companionable silence, and eventually Brianna noticed Aquaria leaning against the mirror on the wall with her eyes closed, head slumped to a side, breathing relaxed.
She should probably get some shut eye herself. It had been a very long and confusing day.
ââ
Neither woman knew exactly how long theyâd been stuck by the time the lights finally turned on.
Brianna opened her eyes, blearily, to see Aquaria pull down on her own sleeves.
âMorninâ sweetheart.â She smiled at Brianna as she nonchalantly stretched out her long limbs.
âWhat time is it?â Brianna was still feeling too sleepy to react further
Aquaria checked her phone. âDead. Iâd guess around 4am.â
The elevator started moving again, jerkily at first, then smoothly until they finally stopped at the tenth floor.
Aquaria had clearly spent some time awake already, she had stacked the presents lying on the floor into neat piles and seemed to be trying to figure out how to carry them out all at once.
As she lifted a couple boxes into her arms, she turned to Brianna.
âHave I told you how much I despise Christmas shopping?â
Brianna was stunned silent. Suddenly jerked fully awake, her mind had drawn a complete blank.
Aquaria didnât notice, the doors opened and two blondes jumped straight in and hugged her, smothering her, fussing over her, and making her drop what she held in the process.
Briannaâs arms moved as if they had a mind of their own. She pulled on her left sleeve and-
It was gone. No trace of the inscription remained. The words she had grown to love had vanished in seconds.
