She was laughing with her sister as they ate ice cream that Brian had stolen from them. They were so tiny and littered with scars, some new and some old. Bruises on their arms, Brian’s arm broken. Sybil couldn’t remeber a time that she had laughed because she was having childish innocent fun.
She made eye contact with herself before she realized she was dreaming.
It was black, so grimy and thick. She floated in it, uncomfortable, before her eyes fluttered open. She winced at the light, rolled on her side and staved off throwing up.
She stayed like that, back turned to the wolf, heaving.
He didn’t kill her. What a shame. She was sure if she let all her weight go to her neck it would have broke in his hold.
She blinked away the spots in her eyes and forced herself to get on her elbows and knees.
“You should have held on a little longer,” she accused, voice hoarse.
Derek sensed her pain and scooted further from the edge of his seat, wanting to curl in on himself. He had done that. He had lost control. He hadn’t done that since…well, he was sure the last time he’d lost control was around Kate.
Hunters knew how to make him tick and it drove him crazy.
He grit his teeth and averted his gaze to the floor, glaring at it as if it had offended him. “I’m not a killer.”
Unlike you, he didn’t say.
She sighed hugely before sitting up straight. Her vision blurred and she fought to stay upright.
“Then who is,” she ground out, steely gaze on him. Derek’s eyes narrowed and he didn’t answer.
Desperation gouged into her chest. “Who!?” She screamed, pounding her fist against the ground before seeming to come to some conclusion.
“Hit me,” she demanded, needing him to understand. They were trying to fix her but she couldn’t be fixed. She wasn’t broken, she was created to be this way. “Hit me, it won’t hurt.” Derek didn’t move and Sybil grew angry.
“I stabbed him,” she concluded simply, staggering to her feet. She could feel the bruise forming. That was normal, it felt right on her skin. She could sense Derek’s anger and wished she had been able to get that out before. Then she would be dead.
