Frankenstein Jr. Rules
Coffy premiered in Chicago on 13 May 1973.
After losing the rights to Cleopatra Jones, Larry Gordon approached director/writer Jack Hill to produce a similar film that would beat Cleopatra Jones to theaters. Hill had worked with Pam Grier on The Big Doll House (1971) and The Big Bird Cage (1972) and wrote the script specifically for her.
Coffy beat Cleopatra Jones to the box office by 2 months, was a bigger box office success, and established Pam Grier as an icon.
